100.000 PS3 sold in France Within a Month.

Sony Computer Entertainment announced today by the means of a press release to have sold 100.000 PlayStation 3 in France since 12 October 2007.The French market answered with enthusiasm ever since the introduction of the new PS3 40 Giga model priced at 400 euros. Sony France had this to say,
"Our factories are in full production mode to meet this high demand and to avoid any out-of-stock condition. Our initial objective of selling 500 000 units come December 31 will be largely exceeded and give way for a season record in sales, ' declares George Fornay, chairman of SCE France and Senior Vice-president of SCE Europe.

About a week ago Sony released an interesting and mysterious website to help promote Uncharted: Drakes Fortune for the PlayStation 3. They made a post about it (VGcore.com/news/2295.html) and since then They've obtained two more interesting related pieces.

When you're met with a black screen after spending over an hour to download a demo which you've been looking forward to play, you are not best pleased. You then find out it's all PS3's owners who are outside of the US and Canada that are having the same problem. You then get angry. Why is Sony employing region- locking on an originally region-free console. All the blu-ray games and game demos are region free, why isn't the Uncharted demo, perhaps the most important game for Sony this year.

Well the official response at the Playstation Blog is disconcerting. However, an official comment from Sony after the many posts of upset fans seems to state things in a different manner. This bug on non-US PS3's was not intentional region-locking, but a bug that of course was not discovered when putting up the demo, as it was not tested on a non-US unit. They say they are working on it, and hopefully we'll have some very good news tomorrow

What's of interest is the changing of attitude from the original announcement to the actual response to the gamers who posted their disgust and frustration with the problem.

If you're in the PAL or Asian territories, you may have discovered that your 1.2 GB download of the brand new Uncharted: Drake's Fortune demo won't @!#?@!ing play on your PlayStation 3.

Kotaku contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America who confirmed that the US version "does not allow for cross-region play" and that "the Japanese and PAL demo will both be released soon.

As from around 20 minutes ago U:DF demo is avalible on the USA playstation network store.

1200Mb of data, so might take a while to download

Also on the USA site is the 3 New Themes for download, instead of using the memory stick and japanese download method.

Yup, the new demo for Uncharted Drake's Fortune seems to run only on U.S console regarding new post on Neogaf forums. PS3 are freezing with a black screen or they ask you to insert a disc.
Maybe it's just a bug, who knows ?

Here there is one post illustrating the problem

Today PSU received the official review kit and press release for Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.

"Normally when publishers send us games, they're just basic game boxes, but with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, this is no ordinary press kit.

When I opened the FedEx box this morning, I was amazed to find more than just a game; what I found was a diary. The diary of Sir Francis Drake (and a press release). Inside this book, I found a slew of journaled writings, maps, data discs, and a post card with holes to decode secret messages.

The beginning of the Diary starts with The Chronicles of Sir Francis Drake, and his life story. Then after a few pages, the diary ends, leaving a secret compartment for all of Nathan Drake's findings and his own diary.

Furthermore, Sony was kind enough to not only send us a review copy of the game, but also a sample of Uncharted's OST, composed by Greg Edmonson. Also on the OST is a hip hop track entitled " Uncharted: The El Dorado Megamix" performed by DJ Shadow."
