The multiplayer mode is looking equally impressive with huge maps playing host to up to 16 players. They provide a perfect opportunity to sample some of the game’s more inventive weaponry. The gameplay does suffer slightly from the leisurely pace that the characters trot about at though, and the sheer size of the arenas we played will mean with anything less than four players it will feel lonely. But this is not likely to be a problem with online play. Like a hungry velociraptor, Turok has taken us by surprise by looking rather special so far.
The sheer amount of cover, from tall grass to dead dinos, and the inventiveness of some of the new weapons open up a wealth of options for tactical play. It’s not the easiest of games either, and the ammo-eating raptors in particular are going to force us to think before we shoot.
It’s hard to choose our favorite part so far, but hearing the distant roars of dinos as the undergrowth shivers with the approach of something nasty is a spine-tingling highlight. Also wondering why the plant eaters are getting restless and the horrible realisation when a huge T-Rex stomps into view.
