Gamerzines, the site behind the free magazines for Xbox 360, PC games, PSP and DS, has launched its free PlayStation 3 magazine to co-incide with the UK launch of the console. As with other Gamerzines, the magazine is written by professional games journalists and offered for free in a digital format. All that is required is Adobe Reader 8 on a PC. The magazine is enhanced with videos and multimedia that play on the pages themselves.

Issue 1 is available for download immediately and covers every single European launch game, as well as lengthy preview feature highlighting their pick of the top 20 games still to come on the PS3 this year.

The magazine is to publish a new issue for free every month from launch, to match the other existing Gamerzines for other platforms.
Sadly, money grubbing suits have recently begun ripping off honest cheaters with slimy pay-per-cheat systems and shameful product tie-ins. But beneath the slick interfaces of Xbox Live Marketplace lie layers of moldy codes hidden in games by the hacker cowboys of days long past. These sly nods to the elite gaming cadre are bizarre, hilarious, or even downright grotesque. In celebration of this longstanding tradition we present to you the finest cheats, glitches, and mods excavated from the ...

Although not announcing it in its online store, reports are coming in that U.S. generalist retailer Target is selling games including Need for Speed: Carbon, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Tony Hawk's Project 8 for $39.99 ¿ well below the $59.99 retail price set at launch.

This follows reports that Best Buy ¿ among others ¿ has actually been holding PS3 stock (hardware and software) since December 21st. This 'strategy' apparently relates to the fact that various Best Buy outlets only have between 25 to 60 units each ready to go for by December 31st.

In announcing Rainbow Six: Vegas had shipped for Xbox 360, Ubisoft also revealed that the PS3 and PSP versions of the first-person shoot had been delayed into 2007. Rainbow Six: Vegas won't be available on either system until January 30. Part of the delay may be attributed to the online component of Vegas.

When IGN recently visited Ubisoft's office to get hands-on time with Rainbow Six on 360, we asked if the PS3 version would have the same online functions. We were told that "it should work." Not exactly the most confident of responses for a game original expected to ship on PS3 in November.

With developers receiving information on the PlayStation Network close to launch, third-party games have taken a bit of an online hit. For instance, online multiplayer in Tony Hawk's Project 8 had to be cut. Since the success of Rainbow Six relies on its online support, a delay to ensure the best possible multiplayer experience may not be the worst news.
Skateboarding is fun. To see how fun, throw yourself down 16 stairs, and when you arrive at bottom, absorb the brutal concrete smack that surges up through the bones of your feet to crush your ankles, knees and spine. If that doesn't sound pleasurable, then at least know Tony Hawk's Project 8's virtual reenactment is massively so. Score one for gaming versus the real world.

If you skate, or if you've ever wanted to, the lifelike physics and painstakingly motion-captured animation in THP8 make ...
IGN: PS3's Project 8 Inferior to 360's Version (News)

According to IGN, the PS3 version of Tony Hawk's Project 8 suffers from two key problems. First, as previously announced, the PS3 version lacks an online mode. However, more suprisingly, the PS3's Project 8 frequently grinds to halt. The game chugs and the framerate frequently drops to an unplayable 15 FPS.

To sum it up, IGN says "It's certainly disappointing that the PlayStation 3 is so far behind the Xbox 360 game. Framerate issues are apparent at every other turn, and the lack of online play really hurts. Project 8 is a worthy game to pick up, just preferably not on this system."
(Wii gets Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam instead of Project 8, however.) While you can now buy these games for the fad-lacking, buttons-and-thumbstick systems, the titles are being tuned for Wii and PS3 motion-sensitive controls. At the Sony Gamer's Day last month, we saw how the three games use the Sixaxis controller.
Project 8's Nail the Trick mode, where you use the sticks to control your skater's legs, gets a slight tweak with SixAxis control: ...
To seasoned Tony Hawk pros, single-player mode is akin to storytime in kindergarten. Hardcore fans play for the challenge and competition - finding the best lines to maximize combos and rack up insane point totals to best their rivals and impress any suitors that may inexplicably be watching. They're gonna drop a deuce in their baggy shorts when they get to play Project 8 on next-gen consoles.

Sure, the game features a livelier, more active story mode world and leaderboards for every goal to ...
Thursday 12 October 2006
New details on the multiplayer modes in Tony Hawk's Project 8 have emerged - and for series fans, they're pretty much what you'd expect, with one exception.

The two-player only Horse is back, along with eight-player games of Trick Attack, Combo Mambo, Score Challenge and Combo Challenge - asking you to be first to hit either a predetermined score or just rack up the biggest score during a timed session. Graffiti also makes a reappearance, in which trick areas are ...
With animation playing a bigger role in Tony Hawk's Project 8 than any previous title, developer Neversoft has been motion-capturing different stances from its featured skaters - as you can see in this session with Paul 'P-Rod' Rodriguez by grinding up to the Movies tab.

Just recently, a new batch of box art featuring the games Call of Duty 3, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Tony Hawk's Project 8 for Playstation 3 has surfaced.

However, the reaction to this format has so far been lukewarm. Though many fans refer to the new box art format as "nostalgic" others don't quite agree and have pointed out such things as the position of the PS3 strip on the left, the letters which should be going the other way, as well as the font which is reminiscent of the font that has been used in Spiderman movies.
Here are the three words that defined our hands-on time with Tony Hawk's Project 8: Nail the Trick. While Tony Hawk's American Wasteland was a quickie port for last year's Xbox 360 launch, THP8 already looks, feels and plays like the next-generation potential star it is - and a good part of that is due to this new control scheme.

Nail the Trick is a much-talked about new game goal and control mechanic for pulling off precision kickflips and board rotations in real time. It's simple: Ollie ...
But Project 8 is not online for PlayStation 3. Only within the last three weeks has Neversoft received its PS3 beta kits, a black horizontal box about one foot wide by two feet long and two inches deep, with a slew of buttons and dials on its front deck. Neversoft is confident the PS3 version of the game will ship at launch in November, but it still hasn't received all of the software libraries and has no indication of how the online components will work on PS3, so it's not offering them.
Tuesday 25 July 2006
Last week we brought you a trailer showing just how Tony Hawk's Project 8 developer Neversoft motion captured a pro skater in action, now we can show the incredible results of the process. We've also nabbed the latest next-gen screens, revealing a little more of what we can expect of the skate game.

This new movie demonstrates the amount of detail that goes in to every trick, with each movement of the skater's feet having an affect on the board.

Tony Hawk has been freaking people out with his skateboard antics since before many of us were even born. Still, as creative as he is with his plank, the games that bear his name had begun to stagnate with formulaic gameplay, dragging a once proud franchise into yawn-tastic territory. But this is the next generation, and all the stops have been pulled on Tony Hawk's Project 8, the newest board-riding banquet from the Hawkman.

The game engine has been completely rebuilt to get the most out of both PS3 and Xbox 360, which means improved graphics, more motion-capture animations and tighter physics, so the feeling of gravity and ...
