Phil Elliott of GamesIndustry.biz writes:

"An in-game advertising campaign run by Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) last year in two Tom Clancy videogames prompted a 500 per cent increase in activity on the related recruitment web site, it has been revealed.

The campaign, which featured billboards advertising careers at GCHQ in Ubisoft titles Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Rainbow Six: Vegas, ran for a month and was managed by TMP Worldwide, according to a report in Recruiter.

Kate Clemens, head of GCHQ's digital strategy at TMP, stated that she felt the campaign had been successful as a general profile-raising exercise, with traffic increasing from around 500-600 people per day visiting the "Careers in British Intelligence" site to between 4000 and 7000."

The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the surveillance arm of British intelligence services, will this month embed advertisements into popular video games such as "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent" to attract young recruits who are "computer-savvy, technologically-able, quick-thinking." The advertisements will appear as billboards and be fed into games being played on personal computers and Xbox 360 that are connected to the Internet.
The additional content from the PS3 version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent is now available to Xbox 360 owners on XBL Marketplace.

Two new multiplayer maps (Kinshasa and Secret base), four new challenges on those maps and a brand new character, the Spy Girl, plus three outfits are up for download at no extra cost.

Or alternatively you could just go back and play Chaos Theory, where the multiplayer mode hasn't been toned down for stealthless monkeys (meow).

The next Xbox 360 exclusive ...

Quite a well populated list. There's no real way anyone can complain about this week's releases. Unless you're a European The Darknees fan. Don't forget, though. If there's a game that's only available in another region, then feel free to import it. Your PlayStation 3 won't care. Release dates are subject to constant change, so give your local game shop a ring before walking down there.
Y'know, we've never really liked the Splinter Cell series all that much. There's just something about playing the role of a government spook working for the CIA, the NSA or whatever that rubbed us the wrong way.

But we're professionals, so when the boss asked us to play Splinter Cell Double Agent, we begrudgingly agreed. After all, we were starting to get used to being a tool of the Man (just kidding).

When we fired up Double Agent, however, it didn't take very long for this gem to surprise ...
Dont worry, its not your favorite undercover operative after a few surgical snips and a heavy course of hormonal therapy. Its actually a genuine female Third Echelon operative, just one of the new and exclusive (well, sorta - they'll be downloadable on Xbox 360) multiplayer ...
It will also come with two new multiplayer maps, fresh co-op challenges and the svelte femme fatale spy character we discovered a few weeks ago. And these first PS3 shots show the female character in action.

In single-player, Double Agent brings SixAxis gesture technology to many of Sam's tasks - picking locks, hacking security ...
On the noiseless heels of the four-console release of Splinter Cell: Double Agent Ubisoft has announced that they'll be sending Sam Fisher onto the only console yet to feature his exhilarating stealth antics and green-glowing dome. The Xbox 360 version of Double Agent was an awesome new realization of the Splinter Cell series, and there's no reason to doubt the PS3 version will bring the same excellence to bear.

In fact, there may be reason to believe that Double Agent will reach new heights ...
