PS3 Preview | The Club
Gun enthusiasts and score whores have reason to celebrate today as Segas The Club hits Xbox Live with a sparse yet action-packed demo. Gaze below at our custom gameplay video detailing the kinds of balls-out headshots and fiery explosions expected when testosterone and gunplay collide. With only one character and the Prison Cell level available, youll have the option of running and gunning through the vanilla Sprint mode (get to the finish line) or Time Attack (3 lap affair). If thats not your ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | The Club
Jan 1, 2008 We got pretty excited with our recent hands-on with The Club, a shooter with a distinctly arcade feel to it. While the core mechanic - combo together as many stylish and skillful kills as you can - remains the same over all the modes, there are still a number of ways that the game presents this theme. Below are the various challenges catered to let you strut your stuff as the top killer amongst your ... » Read More

Dec 21, 2007 In any shooter, headshots are everything. The more the better, the faster the better - but rarely, other than a quicker kill, are you actually rewarded for it in any noticeable way. In The Club, things are completely different. The basic idea is simple. Go from one point to the other, killing as many people as you can, as fast as possible. Every kill you make brings up a little timer, kill again in that time and youll start a combo, kill again in that time and your combo (and ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | The Club
Nov 12, 2007 The Club is as tricky a game to explain in this preview as it presumably was for devs Bizarre Creations to pitch to some cynical Sega suits. We can picture it now: “Um, so weve come up with a really novel take on the third-person shooter. Its Gears of War meets Project Gotham meets Tekken meets Tony Hawk meets Time Crisis meets... The Most Dangerous Game. Ever. And its like The Running Man. Er, can we have some cash?” Cue door slamming in face... or, rather, not. You ... » Read More

Were sick of taking cover. Of hiding behind trash cans and scurrying between pillars. We hate crouching and crawling through bushes. And thats why The Club is interesting. Rather than a prolonged assault on the enemy, each level is a two minute rush. You scream through, kill everyone as stylishly and efficiently as possible and make your exit. Its ferocious and immediate, the complete polar opposite of something like Ghost Recon where you spend most of your time cowering behind sand ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | The Club
The Club is what some of us refer to as a "proper videogame." It takes the classic ingredients for addictive gameplay and unashamedly nailguns them into the torso of a third-person shooter. For starters, time is everything. Secondly, skill is essential - you're going to beat your friends by being better, not through blind luck. And thirdly, yes, you will be playing this like a racing game. Reach a certain point in the level with a below-target score and you'll be reaching for the restart ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | The Club
If you stop moving, you die. That's the kind of shooter The Club is. It flips the bird at the modern trend in shooters - that of slowing the pace down and forcing you to use enough cover to conceal an obese elephant. Nope, pick up that caution and lob it into the wind because The Club is an old-fashioned arcade shooter blast-a-thon thats all about quick reactions and precise aiming - and remembering when and where to point your ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | The Club
Ever feel like there are too many cutscenes jammed into your action game? Wouldn't you rather just pick up a gun (or two) and start blasting your way through hoods and thugs? Of course you would, and The Club promises such a rush. The game, which is being described as "paintball with bullets," ditches any kind of narrative structure and focuses solely on beating your own high score. Players take control of a SWAT-garbed character running around a contemporary cityscape, with the aim being to ... » Read More
