Super-charging though the rabbit warren-like levels (be sure to hold sprint at all times), we snag a skull shot located in a cranny while hotfooting it up some stairs. Some SOB is taking pot-shots at us, but instead of capping him we aim at the handily-placed explosive barrel at his side. Cue an awesome chain reaction that ends up engulfing five of the sods in one glorious fireball. Okay, so it’s hardly a triumph of next-gen AI but, essentially, The Club’s underlings exist only to die in as spectacular a fashion as you can conjure. Saying that, if you don’t take them out post-haste, they’ll find cover and start to make life extremely difficult, so the onus is on you to take ‘em down ASAP.

However, for all The Club’s lovely looks (the environments in particular are Gotham-beautiful) there’s an overall lack of spectacle that disappoints ever so slightly. We’d have liked to see just a bit more over-the-top gore, stylish blurring effects and some of that gorgeous dynamic weather from PGR4 to add much-needed sexiness to the slaughter and add some all-important mass market appeal. We’re confident this’ll rock in its various storming multiplayer incarnations, though perhaps more as a cult than smash hit. Shame that, as it’s looking really rather good.
