The Beatles: Rock Band

Today, during a rather excellent podcast on DLC, Harmonix representatives spoke at length about the Beatles game, sharing some interesting insights in the production process at Abbey Road. They also spoke about the possibility of future DLC. They said that working with the Beatles could be 'glacially paced'. We know that you want more Beatles DLC. We want more to. We're going to continue passing that info from the forums to the music ops team. While this isn't the same as saying remaining albums, available tomorrow (which is what we all want), it is enough to confirm that Harmonix are still interested in The Beatles brand and that, with a little luck, we could be buying new songs some time in the future.

Last night, the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards ceremony took place in London, with a number of shocking results. While few would argue that Batman: Arkham Asylum found itself up against some tough competition for the coveted Game of the Year award, the fact that Rocksteady Studios walked away with the award will certainly be a boon to UK videogame development. However, another winner is now going to be a benefit to the UK's gaming public, as the UK's largest high street videogames retailer has announced a celebratory promotion.

Most UI panels at the Game Developers' Conference tend to be full of dry technical information, all about how the team developed their own font kerning tool and organized menu elements in a data-driven fashion. The Harmonix UI panel this morning hosted by Senior Artist Kevin McGinnis did have that stuff (McGinnis is a self-diagnosed font geek, and did sound overly excited about formatting bitmaps), but it was also full of art -- beautiful The Beatles: Rock Band inspired art.

Alexander Sliwinski of Joystiq writes: The Rock Band Network has gone live on Xbox 360 with a catalog of 105 songs. With over 4,000 registered authors and peer reviewers participating in the program, we're guessing a lot more tracks are in the pipe. Song prices currently range from 80 to 160 ($1 and $2).

MCV: Conspicuous by its absence in EA's forward planning for the financial year ahead was any mention of the once golden franchise that is Rock Band, leading to speculation that the publisher could be looking to drop its distribution agreement for the game. Furthermore, with the end of its current deal with developer Harmonix now in site, EA has refused to offer a concrete commitment to extend its current distribution deal with Viacom.

Amazon.com has discounted The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Bundle for Playstation 3 to $139.99. That $60 off retail price and matches the best price ever available for limited edition bundle. The Beatles Rock Band Limited Edition Bundle includes The Beatles: Rock Band software, Sir Paul McCartney's exclusive Höfner bass guitar controller, The Beatles branded Rock Band drums, a microphone, microphone stand and additional special game content.
