Valve hit the spot again with Engineer intro

Why is it that so many games fail spectacularly to make us laugh? 'Cos they lack witty talent, skilled writing and expert direction, probably - vital virtues that Valve has in spades, illustrated especially well during its recent mirthsome vids for Team Fortress 2, repeated again to good effect in this Engineer introduction.

Once more, we have a solid, rounded and appealing character. And a tightly scripted monologue paired with a perfectly chosen voice actor. This softly-spoken engineer might not create laughs quite as loud as the recent Soldier and Heavy, but it's still a masterclass in how a developer can make games funny and appealing. Enjoy, and look forward to the next one - we're hoping for the Sniper...
