Lens of Truth writes Don't pretend you don't like it, Ricky! Welcome back for this week's Head2Head of Splatterhouse for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This classic franchise started in the arcades and then was ported to the Turbo Grafx 16.Like before, an evil mask of unspeakable power attaches itself to Rick at the beginning of each Splatterhouse game. The Terror Mask is believed to have been made by the Mayans. This mask guides Rick through hell and back in his search for his missing girlfriend, Jennifer. Rick wreaks havoc on anything or anyone who gets in his way. The mask has always been white, with the exception of the American port to the Turbografx 16, where the mask had an alternate design and was red in color (mostly so Rick didn't look like Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees.) So get your knife ready and join us as we slash our way through the hordes of flesh as we compare Splatterhouse for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Dead Pixels has an exclusive in-depth look at the wicked arsenal of weapons the upcoming beat 'em up horror game Splatterhouse has to offer when it releases later this month.

It was the very first game in the US to ever carry a parental advisory warning. It was banned from all but the ballsiest arcades when it first came out in 1988. Splatterhouse is a legend for its breakthrough senseless gore, and now you'll be able to own it on your iPhone. Doesn't that just make you feel all warm and cuddly inside?

Splatterhouse is currently in development by Namco Bandai Games, and is set to be released next month on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. Splatterhouse is a remake of the original which was released in 1988 as an Arcade game by Namco. Like the rest of the series, the game combines beat -em-up mechanics with survival horror.

Ex: This week's pre-order deals add ArcaniA: Gothic 4, Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team, Gears of War 3, Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes of the Ring and Splatterhouse for Amazon. Wal-Mart also adds Gears of War 3 while Best Buy adds Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2.

With this new trailer for its update to the aged schlock horror kill-'em-up, it seems that Namco is wholeheartedly trying to play the Street Fighter card. Capcom did itself a whole boatload of favours by marketing Street Fighters IV and Super Turbo HD towards the series' original '90s players, but to be honest, I'm not so sure that a similar tactic is going to work for Splatterhouse.

All the ingredients are there. Opening footage of the original game. Gratuitous use of its soundtrack. Edits that draw clear parallels between the 1988 original and the new one. But does anyone really care enough about Splatterhouse as a franchise for any of this to matter? Is this trailer massaging your memory cortex with sweet, warm nostalgia lotion, or, like me, are you just seeing a game pointlessly trying to prove that it's a bit like an old game that you'd happily forgotten about because it wasn't actually very good? Take a look and let me know.
