"The 1.50 Patch for SOCOM: Confrontation is now live, coming in at 578 MB.

The EU producer for the game had the following to add:
The team are also deploying a server update to sync with the patch, so you may not be able to connect for a little while once the patch is downloaded. It shouldn't take too long though before the servers are back online…"

TripleChat is happy to bring you the new releases each week for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. Along with all the new releases for each console; TripleChat also gives the scoop on what to expect in new bluray movies and how hyped you should be to either upgrade from DVD or buy for the first time.

This Week: For those who wanted to see a selection of new games instead of just one (unlike the past 2 weeks), gamers are in luck. The selection is pretty one-side but that's beside the point. This week the much anticipated release of Batman Arkham Asylum is finally here for PS3 users. On the PSP front - the semi-hyped up DISSIDIA Final Fantasy comes out as well as Warriors Orochi 2. New for the PS2 is the sequel of Mana Khemia and this week on PSN TripleChat can confirm the release of Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao.

Bluray wise, another solid week for TV show fans as Smallville (one of the first shows to go blu) releases its latest season and FOX's new drama Lie to Me makes its debut. On the movie front there is a non-Twilight related Kristen Stewart flick from the director of the insane comedy Superbad. And from the makers of the low-budget, but highly praised Little Miss Sunshine, the lovely Amy Adams stars in Sunshine Cleaning. For fans of the Devil May Cry video game franchise, the complete anime series makes its mark this week (exclusively on bluray).

Also posted are a few good incentive into buying this week's releases but nothing any gamer should be too excited about.

To get the full scoop, jump to the site!
No, it's not even Resistance 2. According to SCEA senior producer Mark Rogers, SOCOM Confrontation stands above both of Sony's high-profile first-party FPS offerings by having the most simultaneous online connections on the PlayStation Network. He attributes Confrontation's success to the community's commitment to the franchise. Whereas other gamers may play an online game for a few weeks and move on, SOCOM fans have proven to be far more dedicated (despite the game's ... troubled launch).

Achievements have been in video games for many years, though not in the way we know them now. Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64 rewarded players who completed goals with guns, cheats & special modes, while Spyro 2 on the original PlayStation rewarded players who unlocked 'Skill Points' with extra lives.

However, these achievements really created the foundation that PlayStation's Trophies and Xbox 360's Achievements and Gamerscore were based upon, although they were arguably not as rewarding or satisfying to achieve. As the months go by since the introduction of Trophies to the PS3 on July 2nd 2008, to compete with rival Xbox 360's Achievements and Gamerscore system, the challenges set by developers for Trophies have changed drastically.
We know. The game has been out for many, many, months and it's still being patched in an attempt to make it worthy of being shipped to begin with.

But the bigger piece of SOCOM news is that the 1.6 patch will bring with it free DLC. And, TheGamerAccess.com is giving away one copy of the game.
You all know by now that we can't give you a date until we have one that is for sure. But I am going to give you a tentative time frame.

As I mentioned in my post last Friday, the patch is in QA now. Because of its size and all of the new features it includes, extensive testing is planned. So I can tell you that the patch most likely will not be ready before mid to late May.

Socom patch 1.41 is released with a 529MB download. From stability, adjusting frags, and helping with quick matches. I just downloaded and played through a few rounds. Seems everything is running a-ok. A good thing that I really like is you can find your friends a whole lot better on the XMB. Now shows what Medley (1,2, or 3). You can now switch sides in quick matches. Hurray! See Socom.com for more details. Now available to download, after starting the game.

If you have not purchased the game. I totally recommend getting the retail one with the blue tooth headset. Works great.
This was the final step in fixing the latency (lag) issue some players were experiencing (Medley games being created on non native servers) - We have verified that this issue is now fixed.

Patch 1.41 will be deployed 2am on Monday, March 9th in preparation of the upcoming release of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation in Europe. In addition to synchronizing all players with the European release, the 1.41 patch includes the following changes:
When this happens, players experience higher than normal latency as they are playing on servers which are not located locally. This issue was recently made worse when the number of North American hosted servers was reduced.
If you see something you like, click it to get more info!

Just below that is our new menu bar. Mousing over Community or My SOCOM reveals a couple of drop down menus. Now, reports are coming in that UK retailer GAME is sending out emails about a delay.

The emails from GAME were sent to customers who have already pre-ordered the SOCOM even as far back in 2008. And now, GAME's letting them know that the shipping date has been moved to March.

These two fixes are taking longer than was first anticipated. The team is working on both issues diligently and will get the fixes to you as soon as they are completed and thoroughly tested. We apologize for the delay and will have things working correctly again as soon as possible.

The two issues mentioned above were brought up in previous posts about the update;

Players who are members of clans with over 40 members have experienced problems in administrating and viewing Clan / Profile information.

A small subset of players are experiencing inaccurate (inflated) stats.
The SOCOM: Confrontation 1.30 update has been approved and will be released tomorrow, January 9th, at about 5am EST (2am PST, 1000 UTC/GMT, 1900 JST/KST). The SOCOM: Confrontation server will be down for 1 to 2 hours at that time in order to update the server for the new update. Everything should be back up and running at about 7am EST (4am PST, 1200 UTC/GMT, 2100 JST/KST).

In order to resolve incorrect player stats and to correct the stats for the Trophy support, we will be clearing all player statistics with the release of the SOCOM: Confrontation 1.30 update. This will be done when the server is updated."

There are only 37 trophies in the list but they seem to reward the regulars rather than the trophy addicts. It may also be worth pointing out that it seems like someone at Sony forgot to release the caps lock when inputting this bad boy.

Today, I would like to update you on some of the odds and ends within the 1.30 update.

First, I wanted to mention that the 1.30 update contains fixes for over 100 issues; some big and some small. We've been very busy fixing as many issues as possible in addition to adding the new features contained within the 1.30 update. The 1.30 update is more stable than 1.20, has a lot of the framerate/lag hitches fixed and many gameplay issues resolved. This update should resolve a good number of issues which players are experiencing.

I also wanted to share the following screenshot with you.

We've added the room name and game name to the PSN presence data. I should note, this implementation is not perfect. Unfortunately, the PSN only allows 21 characters for the presence data. When you have long room names and long game names the text will be clipped at 21 characters. This is a limitation of the PS3 SDK/System Software and there is nothing we can do about it. We are petitioning the team at SCEI to allow more characters for the presence data but there is no guarantee that they will accept our request and even if they did it would require a PS3 firmware update and would not be done for several months. We are looking at adding this presence data and allowing you to join your friends' games directly from the friends list within SOCOM: Confrontation in a future SOCOM: Confrontation update.

One last thing, some players right fully pointed out that the Lefty control config was still incorrect in the screenshot we provided in a previous 1.30 Update blog post. Here's the correct screenshot :).

Regards,

While we were finishing up the SOCOM Awards and PSN Trophy implementation, we were also working in parallel on the Quick Match/Party features of SOCOM: Confrontation. Since the awards and trophies took a little longer than expected to fully implement and test, we had time to finish the Quick Match/Party systems and they will now be included in the 1.30 patch.

Today, I wanted to give you the first glimpse of SOCOM Awards and PSN Trophies.

This is a very big addition to the game and one we are really excited about. In-game, you can see all of the SOCOM Awards by going to Records and then Awards from the main menu. We have three different types; performance, service and weapons.

This is one of my favorite awards. As you can see, we display both the progress towards achieving each part of the award as well as what type of PSN trophy the award will unlock (Bronze, Silver or Gold) shown by an icon. Awards which have multiple criteria will show you progress for each criteria. It takes 8 full working days under controlled conditions for SCEA QA to collect all of the trophies in the game. SOCOM: Confrontation is not going to be one of those "easy trophies" games.

One more note, you can only collect trophies by playing in ranked games. We want the trophies in SOCOM: Confrontation to really mean something.

We will have more details regarding the SOCOM: Confrontation trophies in a PlayStation.blog post. We will link it here once it goes live.

The dive to prone has been enhanced significantly in the SOCOM: Confrontation 1.30 update and is now very similar to previous SOCOM games. The dive to prone is much quicker and you carry momentum forward. It is much easier to quickly get into a good prone position or dive for the deck.

"Now that we are 3 weeks into the launch of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation it is about time for a more comprehensive update straight from the developers. All of us at Slant Six would like to thank those active community members who continually exhibit their passion for SOCOM- you are a tough audience but we would not want it any other way. The launch was pretty rough on all of us but we want to let you know that we are committed to continual improvement of the game...

...Here are some of the items planned for the update. Please note that some items listed may be delayed to a following update if additional development is required beyond what our schedule for the 1.30 update allows. This should not be considered a guarantee that these items will be in the 1.30 update, but we did want to give everyone a heads up as to what is on our plate currently..."

"As a reminder, our scheduled daily server maintenance is between 5am and 8am PDT (8am to 11am EDT). We bring the servers down during this time to roll out updates. The servers will usually only be down for about 20-30 minutes but some updates may take longer.

In parallel to the server updates, we are also working on a new client patch which resolves some client side stability issues. These issues include getting booted to the XMB, large number of players getting disconnected from a specific game and other issues. We've been working on and testing this since the game launched and we should have a final version ready for release in the next week or so. It is hard to provide an exact date or timeframe as we need to make sure the patch is thoroughly tested and does not introduce any new issues."

Various game and server errors for Sony Corp.'s launch of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs: Confrontation caused frustrated Playstation 3 owners to cry foul on launch day.

Malfunction issues included game disconnects, room disconnects, Corrupt File errors, and 'Operation Could Not Be Completed' error messages.

A problem can occur when players are required to download an update to the title. When the update is installed a 'Corrupt File' message appears when it is automatically loaded.

Additionally, when operating through the online menu, random operation error messages prompt the player more than once.

Unhappy buyers took to the game's official online message board to vent.

"The trophies will become available via patch in the coming weeks," SCEA's Jennifer Clark told us when we inquired about the game's strange lack of Trophies. Yes, if you buy SOCOM Confrontation, you'll find that it's absent of the collectible Trophies everyone's been raving about. It's strange that Slant Six wasn't able to include Trophies into the final version of the game, but this may explain why we had so much trouble finding out the Trophy list so soon before the game's release.

We're hoping that the Trophies that are enabled will take advantage of a retroactive rewards system. Undoubtedly, hardcore SOCOM fans are ready to spend hours in the online world of Confrontation. Of course, let Burnout Paradise teach a lesson: perhaps it's best not to expect retroactive Trophies to um ... y'know, work.
So I quit the game to go fix the microphone issues, bad move. After making the quick changes I needed, which took about 2 minutes I go and try to start the game back up again.

Here Is What The Socom Team Had to Say About The Level Destruction In The Game:

Anyway, one thing I like about the new maps is just how destructible they are. Crossroads has the two arches, which I'm sure you've seen at this point, but Urban Wasteland and Fallen have a few spots that are wired too blow once triggered.

Urban Wasteland has two spots. There is an elevated walkway that connects the central skyscraper and the building across the street. It provides an easy way for Mercs to make their way into the central structure of the map while avoiding the carnage down on the ground. However, a flip of a switch wrecks the walkway, forcing the Mercs to find another route.

This doesn't unbalance the map, though. The Commandos don't have an elevated path, but they have the next best thing-- an underground route. This route leads into the parking garage under the skyscraper... but it can also be blown to bits, blocking the path until the end of the match.

Fallen has a total of four bridges, two per side. The larger wooden bridge is the main path to the central ruins for each team, and a smaller stone bridge provides an alternate path. The stone bridges are obviously ready to explode. There is dynamite placed at certain stress points on the bridges, and the flip of a switch sets it off.

The top floor of the central tower in Kasbah also has a couple of detonators. These detonators trigger the explosion of a tower in either spawn point, which makes it tougher for players to snipe the tower from home base.

Hit The Jump For More

The patch will include these fixes (more after the jump)

The SOCOM Confrontation 1.40 patch addresses the following issues:

* Fixed an issue which was causing an abnormally large number of simultaneous kills.
* Optimized the Armory so that selecting weapons, attachments and general menu navigation are much faster.
* Fixed another issue where you could get stuck in spectator cam when late joining a game.
* Fixed an issue where occasionally late joiners would have very low framerate and crash when exiting a game.
* Fixed an issue where occasionally late joiners would have no audio.
* Statistics improvements. Statistics are now being tracked at the team level and not the player level. This will ensure stats are tracked for dropped and late joining players.
* Further improved load times for late joiners.
* Fixed several stability issues.

The following changes were made based on user feedback:

* Added new burst firing accuracy tuning when moving. You are now more accurate for the initial burst while moving but accuracy deteriorates as you continue to fire more shots.
* Scopes are now accurate.
* The select screen scoreboard is now exited by pressing the select button.
* Improved tiebreaker rules.
* New HUD animation to indicate when you are reloading.
* Crosshairs now turn grey when your magazine is empty.
The Socom team is aware of this problem and are working around the clock to get it fixed and bring us all a better beta experience

As of right now, The Socom Team is focusing in fixing these problems:"

Frank Caron writes: "The first of what will likely be many patches has already gone live today. Of course, it is a beta for a reason. Thankfully, looking past those issues, SOCOM proves to be a solid third-person shooter with some great community features. Warhawk has long been the standard for organized multiplayer on the PlayStation 3, but it appears that the title will quickly be passed to SOCOM when the game launches. Even in beta, a number of key improvements already trump Incognito's excellent title.

For one, voice chat in the beta has been surprisingly excellent. The new official PS3 headsets come with a special high quality mode that SOCOM will take advantage of, but even without them the voice chat is higher quality than any other PS3 titles. Given that the game is so highly tactical and team-oriented, this is good news.

The clan options are also significantly more robust. An integrated clan calendar allows clan leaders to create scheduled events which are pushed out to all members of the clan. These events range from tournaments to clan matches and even open invitationals. Clan leaders can also interact with other clan leaders to set up events for all the clan members involved."

"Due to overwhelming demand for the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation public beta, we are experiencing load related issues," the company said in a statement. "These issues are causing abnormal latency, disconnects, long load times, login errors and community features such as clans and stats not functioning correctly (or at all)."
Do these people not see it coming?

This, of course, has made performance of the currently-running public online beta less than desirable, but developer Slant Six Games is on the case.
We will be performing server maintenance and rolling out a new patch on September 9th at 5am PDT, 1200 GMT. The SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation game servers will be unavailable during the maintenance. The server maintenance is not expected to last longer than 1 1/2 hours.

SOCOM: Confrontation Public Beta 1.10 Patch

Adds support for European EULAs.
Adds support for dedicated servers located in Europe and Australia.
Addresses a number of stability and late joining issues.
Reduce the volume of the proximity chat by 50%.
The server maintenance and patch are not meant to address all issues. We will have more updates to both the server and client in the future.

Regards,

Shijina on the UK Playstation forums writes:

"Hi all,

Well, as I'm sure you're all aware, today is SOCOM d-day!

The good news is that we have everything set-up and ready to go once people start getting their voucher codes. The only slightly bad news in all of this is that there was some confusion over getting voucher codes to people in this forum, so we're a little behind on that one and I am working on it as a priority! I can't promise you will all get codes today, but please be patient as you WILL be getting a code soon, hopefully Monday at the latest. Incidentally I had them salvage the list you all put together once it became obvious there was a problem emailing you all, so every name on that list will get a code, providing the account name was valid.

Here is the territory distribution breakdown as I currently know it:

UK: Eurogamer

Scandi/Spain/Australia/NZ: Pre-order scheme (retailer unknown)

Germany: Delayed, pending age-rating approval by USK. (Note: Codes for Germany Austria & Switzerland will be distributed through the PlayStationLiga once they're ready.)

All others: Email distribution from Central Marketing.

Beta trialists: Specific email invite.

I enquired as to how Marketing will be emailing people and apparently they have a central database of ALL registered EU PSN accounts. From this database they have been able to cross-reference people who were registered on old SOCOM sites, or who have expressed an interest in SOCOM games and shooters through surveys (see the importance of filling those in now kids?), or who have spent a lot of money on the PSN store in the past. These emails should start going out around 4pm today...

As for the download itself, you can download and install it on up to 5 different PS3s, but they will all be locked to the account used to download the file, which means ...

"SOCOM: Confrontation comes today with a brand new trailer showing us a few phases of urban warfare taking place in the Middle East.

The game is scheduled for October 17. Three versions will be marketed. In the first place on the Playstation Store at 39.00 EUROS;, but also on Blu-Ray with a headset or without 59.00 EUROS to 39.00 EUROS.

As a reminder, be aware that the system of "Trophy" will be compatible and that personalizing your soldier will be very thorough. Finally, I would remind you that the title is that only playable online. "
