While true, they have said they would like to add it but "no promises" and no time-line.
The 1.30 update (or patch if you are a PC kind of guy) will also include some things you may find good or bad. Among them is Dive to Prone, or as it's more commonly known, dolphin diving.

Dan McBride, SOCOM.com:

"Now that we are 3 weeks into the launch of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation it is about time for a more comprehensive update straight from the developers. All of us at Slant Six would like to thank those active community members who continually exhibit their passion for SOCOM- you are a tough audience but we would not want it any other way. The launch was pretty rough on all of us but we want to let you know that we are committed to continual improvement of the game...

...Here are some of the items planned for the update. Please note that some items listed may be delayed to a following update if additional development is required beyond what our schedule for the 1.30 update allows. This should not be considered a guarantee that these items will be in the 1.30 update, but we did want to give everyone a heads up as to what is on our plate currently..."
Odd, considering this was one of PlayStation 2’s biggest franchises and the game introducing the PS3’s swish new wireless headset. ...

Seth Luisi, SOCOM.com:

"We are happy to announce that the SOCOM: Confrontation 1.20 Update will be released on Wednesday, October 29th, at 1200 GMT/UTC (8am EDT, 5am PDT, 1pm BST, 9pm JST).

The SOCOM: Confrontation 1.20 update addresses the following issues:

- Fixed many issues which would cause the game to crash, hang, disconnect and exit to the PS3 XMB.
- Fixed an issue which would cause large numbers of players in a high player count game to be simultaneously disconnected.
- Fixed an issue which would cause players to be invincible.
- Fixed a physics issue which would cause players to occasionally "warp" around on the map.
- Fixed an issue where a "corrupt save data" message would be incorrectly displayed after updating the game.
- Fixed some player model issues related to team swapping.
- Client/server optimization.
- Fixed an issue where the scope camera had an incorrect offset from the barrel of the gun while prone or leaning/peeking."
We bring the servers down during this time to roll out updates. The servers will usually only be down for about 20-30 minutes but some updates may take longer.

In parallel to the server updates, we are also working on a new client patch which resolves some client side stability issues. These issues include getting booted to the XMB, large number of players getting disconnected from a specific game and other issues. We've been working on and testing this since the game launched and we should have a final version ready for release in the next week or so. It is hard to provide an exact date or timeframe as we need to make sure the patch is thoroughly tested and does not introduce any new issues."

Various game and server errors for Sony Corp.'s launch of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs: Confrontation caused frustrated Playstation 3 owners to cry foul on launch day.

Malfunction issues included game disconnects, room disconnects, Corrupt File errors, and 'Operation Could Not Be Completed' error messages.

A problem can occur when players are required to download an update to the title. When the update is installed a 'Corrupt File' message appears when it is automatically loaded.

Additionally, when operating through the online menu, random operation error messages prompt the player more than once.

Unhappy buyers took to the game's official online message board to vent.

"The trophies will become available via patch in the coming weeks," SCEA's Jennifer Clark told us when we inquired about the game's strange lack of Trophies. Yes, if you buy SOCOM Confrontation, you'll find that it's absent of the collectible Trophies everyone's been raving about. It's strange that Slant Six wasn't able to include Trophies into the final version of the game, but this may explain why we had so much trouble finding out the Trophy list so soon before the game's release.

We're hoping that the Trophies that are enabled will take advantage of a retroactive rewards system. Undoubtedly, hardcore SOCOM fans are ready to spend hours in the online world of Confrontation. Of course, let Burnout Paradise teach a lesson: perhaps it's best not to expect retroactive Trophies to um ... y'know, work.
So I quit the game to go fix the microphone issues, bad move. After making the quick changes I needed, which took about 2 minutes I go and try to start the game back up again.

Here Is What The Socom Team Had to Say About The Level Destruction In The Game:

Anyway, one thing I like about the new maps is just how destructible they are. Crossroads has the two arches, which I'm sure you've seen at this point, but Urban Wasteland and Fallen have a few spots that are wired too blow once triggered.

Urban Wasteland has two spots. There is an elevated walkway that connects the central skyscraper and the building across the street. It provides an easy way for Mercs to make their way into the central structure of the map while avoiding the carnage down on the ground. However, a flip of a switch wrecks the walkway, forcing the Mercs to find another route.

This doesn't unbalance the map, though. The Commandos don't have an elevated path, but they have the next best thing-- an underground route. This route leads into the parking garage under the skyscraper... but it can also be blown to bits, blocking the path until the end of the match.

Fallen has a total of four bridges, two per side. The larger wooden bridge is the main path to the central ruins for each team, and a smaller stone bridge provides an alternate path. The stone bridges are obviously ready to explode. There is dynamite placed at certain stress points on the bridges, and the flip of a switch sets it off.

The top floor of the central tower in Kasbah also has a couple of detonators. These detonators trigger the explosion of a tower in either spawn point, which makes it tougher for players to snipe the tower from home base.

Hit The Jump For More

The patch will include these fixes (more after the jump)

The SOCOM Confrontation 1.40 patch addresses the following issues:

* Fixed an issue which was causing an abnormally large number of simultaneous kills.
* Optimized the Armory so that selecting weapons, attachments and general menu navigation are much faster.
* Fixed another issue where you could get stuck in spectator cam when late joining a game.
* Fixed an issue where occasionally late joiners would have very low framerate and crash when exiting a game.
* Fixed an issue where occasionally late joiners would have no audio.
* Statistics improvements. Statistics are now being tracked at the team level and not the player level. This will ensure stats are tracked for dropped and late joining players.
* Further improved load times for late joiners.
* Fixed several stability issues.

The following changes were made based on user feedback:

* Added new burst firing accuracy tuning when moving. You are now more accurate for the initial burst while moving but accuracy deteriorates as you continue to fire more shots.
* Scopes are now accurate.
* The select screen scoreboard is now exited by pressing the select button.
* Improved tiebreaker rules.
* New HUD animation to indicate when you are reloading.
* Crosshairs now turn grey when your magazine is empty.

"As we all know the Socom: Confrontation beta can be quite the pain. Having to wait 10 minutes to get started is about as awesome as watching paint dry. The Socom team is aware of this problem and are working around the clock to get it fixed and bring us all a better beta experience

As of right now, The Socom Team is focusing in fixing these problems:"

Frank Caron writes: "The first of what will likely be many patches has already gone live today. Of course, it is a beta for a reason. Thankfully, looking past those issues, SOCOM proves to be a solid third-person shooter with some great community features. Warhawk has long been the standard for organized multiplayer on the PlayStation 3, but it appears that the title will quickly be passed to SOCOM when the game launches. Even in beta, a number of key improvements already trump Incognito's excellent title.

For one, voice chat in the beta has been surprisingly excellent. The new official PS3 headsets come with a special high quality mode that SOCOM will take advantage of, but even without them the voice chat is higher quality than any other PS3 titles. Given that the game is so highly tactical and team-oriented, this is good news.

The clan options are also significantly more robust. An integrated clan calendar allows clan leaders to create scheduled events which are pushed out to all members of the clan. These events range from tournaments to clan matches and even open invitationals. Clan leaders can also interact with other clan leaders to set up events for all the clan members involved."
Do these people not see it coming?
We will be performing server maintenance and rolling out a new patch on September 9th at 5am PDT, 1200 GMT. The SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation game servers will be unavailable during the maintenance. The server maintenance is not expected to last longer than 1 1/2 hours.

SOCOM: Confrontation Public Beta 1.10 Patch

Adds support for European EULAs.
Adds support for dedicated servers located in Europe and Australia.
Addresses a number of stability and late joining issues.
Reduce the volume of the proximity chat by 50%.
The server maintenance and patch are not meant to address all issues. We will have more updates to both the server and client in the future.
Not only are people furiously starting to download the beta, but some who received a code are choosing to trade it in exchange for the Home beta. Looks like we got some beta trading going on here. Let us know if you manage to get into the beta or not in the comments section below! Good luck!"

Shijina on the UK Playstation forums writes:

"Hi all,

Well, as I'm sure you're all aware, today is SOCOM d-day!

The good news is that we have everything set-up and ready to go once people start getting their voucher codes. The only slightly bad news in all of this is that there was some confusion over getting voucher codes to people in this forum, so we're a little behind on that one and I am working on it as a priority! I can't promise you will all get codes today, but please be patient as you WILL be getting a code soon, hopefully Monday at the latest. Incidentally I had them salvage the list you all put together once it became obvious there was a problem emailing you all, so every name on that list will get a code, providing the account name was valid.

Here is the territory distribution breakdown as I currently know it:

UK: Eurogamer

Scandi/Spain/Australia/NZ: Pre-order scheme (retailer unknown)

Germany: Delayed, pending age-rating approval by USK. (Note: Codes for Germany Austria & Switzerland will be distributed through the PlayStationLiga once they're ready.)

All others: Email distribution from Central Marketing.

Beta trialists: Specific email invite.

I enquired as to how Marketing will be emailing people and apparently they have a central database of ALL registered EU PSN accounts. From this database they have been able to cross-reference people who were registered on old SOCOM sites, or who have expressed an interest in SOCOM games and shooters through surveys (see the importance of filling those in now kids?), or who have spent a lot of money on the PSN store in the past. These emails should start going out around 4pm today...

As for the download itself, you can download and install it on up to 5 different PS3s, but they will all be locked to the account used to download the file, which means ...

"SOCOM: Confrontation comes today with a brand new trailer showing us a few phases of urban warfare taking place in the Middle East.

The game is scheduled for October 17. Three versions will be marketed. In the first place on the Playstation Store at 39.00 EUROS;, but also on Blu-Ray with a headset or without 59.00 EUROS to 39.00 EUROS.

As a reminder, be aware that the system of "Trophy" will be compatible and that personalizing your soldier will be very thorough. Finally, I would remind you that the title is that only playable online. "

"As planned right now, the beta is going to involve Crossroads and Crossroads Large, the 16 and 32 player variations. You've seen the screens and videos, and maybe even figured out the general layout of the map, but you'll get a month to play on it yourself.

Beyond that, you'll have access to the full range of game modes. Extraction, Elimination, Suppression, and everything else are going to be represented. You'll be able to adjust the settings how you like, as well. Lock out certain weapons, or even entire weapon classes, if you like. If you hate M4s for some reason, you can shut them out of your game.

Character customization will be in, as well, from body armor to camo to headgear and beyond. There will also be clan support and stat tracking, but be aware that these will all be reset at launch.

Think of the beta as a test drive. It'll be the first time the gaming community at large, and SOCOM.com members in particular, get a crack at the game. The month'll let the team check gameplay, server stress, and a host of other important things. It'll be an interesting ride."

It is definitely available for all Canadian residents. The voucher will be available in stores within the coming weeks.
Pre-ordering SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation at EBGames in Canada will give you and two of your friends access to the Public Beta. However, this offer is only valid through the retail stores and not online so visit your local EBGames stores and pre-order.

"Remember that PlayStation-branded SOCOM Bluetooth headset we told you about a while ago? Not surprisingly, it's for real, and we spotted it in Sony's booth alongside SOCOM Confrontation here at E3. It looks to be a relatively nice unit, a bit bigger than your standard Bluetooth headset intended for phones, and the USB charger it comes with is clearly intended to hang out with your PS3. Sony points out that the headset sports a giant mute button for your in-game arguments with significant others, and battery time is promised to be "exceptional." They wouldn't tell us exactly how exceptional, but we'll believe them for now. Finally, they did confirm that you'll be able to pair this with your cellphone in case you want to show off your SOCOM love while away from your living room."

This news came to light when preorder customers received phone calls notifying them of the change of release.
Throughout the even new info was given and more importantly plenty of gameplay videos. With that being said there has been an influx of videos and news.

PS3 Fanboy: "The retail version of SOCOM Confrontation will include a Blu-ray headset. However, expect something much classier than the one included in the Warhawk bundle so long ago. This one is made specifically with gaming in mind -- and as such, earns the official PlayStation branding. The headset, which will also be available seperately from the game, is designed for long use and even includes a much-needed Mute button, a feature uncommon to most Bluetooth headsets. The device will also include a USB cradle, so that it can be charged via the PS3."

It says "Blu-ray headset", but I think they meant Bluetooth.

- PSN friends list integration
- Full clan support featured

Listen up folks, 'cause I've got some dirt on the Public Beta for SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation! We're not quite ready to say when it will come out, but let's just say that it's gonna be a hot summer... better to spend it inside, just in case.

There'll be a couple of ways to get in. One will be through a radically different pre-order program (think 'team') the team is working on with one of our retailer friends. It's currently in planning mode, but I should have some more info soon. Trust me-- all you clan guys are going to love it. Stay tuned.

The second option will be to go through Qore: Presented by PLAYSTATION®Network, SCEA's new interactive monthly program. It goes up for purchase and download on the PLAYSTATION®Store on June 5th. Subscribers to Qore will get the opportunity to participate in the Public Beta when it's available, but you can occupy your time watching some of the cool SOCOM behind-the-scenes videos that will come exclusively with Qore.

I see a lot of talk on the forums and comments about how this person or that person is the biggest and baddest SEAL around. Soon, you're going to get a chance to put your money where your mouth is!
We have a good reason why we decided to go down this path (it prevents rank up rooms), but we are open to feedback as well. I would like to get official feedback from the community at large on this issue. Cast your vote in the poll!

We will seriously consider the results of this poll.
Sure, you're going to get new maps, and lots more detailed graphics, but if you were hoping for some paradigm shift, some major change in the way you play the popular PlayStation shooter, you're going to be disappointed."

New details from Electronic gaming magazine:

GAMEPLAY:
-You can roll or underhand a grenade with real physics
-You can lean your guy with the six-axis instead of the d-pad
-There is proximity chat
-Your clan can talk via open chat, but you can L2 to chat to everyone on your team. Or if you have proximity chat then you chat with who ever is around you.
-Audio has changed. Sounds around a corner sound muffled.
-There is now a run/sprint mode. You can run/sprint but you can't shoot and your gun will not be accurate after running. So basically just use this too avoid snipers.
-Tilt with the six-axis can be tweaked for sensitivity
-There are exploding barrels and cars.
-View distance is big, so no more fog like SOCOM 2
-Smoke looks dark gray
-They talk about the 3rd person view. They said because the new widescreen TVs have a different ratio, there was too much space on each side of the classic view.
-"Sony's Seth Luisi says, "Because it was more centered towards 4:3 TVs, and now going to 16:9, we have a lot more area off to the sides."
-You can go up on roofs.

I'm happy to announce that SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation will be hitting store shelves and the PLAYSTATION Store on September 16th, 2008. You'll be able to download it from your couch or pick up a copy at your favorite brick-and-mortar and get to business.

We've been working for some time to grow and expand our support for the SOCOM community. The initial phase of SOCOM.com (Phase 1) will launch with the official Blog and Message Boards dedicated to the world of SOCOM. The Blog will be the place to go for the latest updates on everything SOCOM related; including screenshots, video, behind-the-scenes blogs and more. For you clan to have a global ranking you now have to be a rounded team with good strategies for dealing with all the maps. Now , you can build all the custom games you want - the room system is still there, which i know is really important to socom fans. you can do all your clan tryouts and training in those rooms. and even playing within those games aggregates different stats, because we track a lot of information about the player, but it doesn't directly go into the global clan ladder" (NO RANK UP)

It was simply inevitable. With Vivendi shipping well over a million copies of 50 Cent: Bulletproof to over a million suckers with crap taste in shooters, a sequel was expected. According to a cover snap of the latest issue of EGM, 50 Cent II, as we're calling it now, is reality. It's getting the "first look" preview treatment in next month's mag, something for which we're sure the boys at EGM were gentlemanly enough to feign interest in for a well-deserved exclusive.
Along with the loads of other Confrontation info in the story, you'll find a list of all the different special forces included in the game. Joining a special force is now a perk associated with joining a clan; solo players will still be able to play as either commandos or mercenaries, but special forces (and their associated uniforms, gear, and weapons) will only be available to clan members.
