It looks like Zipper interactive is doing their best to please SOCOM fans of old and new with a good ol' map pack. Last week Chris Roper, the community manager over at the SOCOM.com forums, announced the details for the next batch of downloadable content. Prior to the announcement the 1.05 patch, of which made some necessary changes to the chat system as well as having fixed some minor bugs, was released. Hopefully, this can persuade some of those "hardcore" SOCOM veterans to come back from Confrontation.

Well SOCOMers, we catapulted the S2HD PS.Blog.Share post into the top ten and clearly it wasnt enough. So lets do it again with the grandfather of console online gaming: SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs or simply, SOCOM 1. We have posted a new vote up on the PS.Blog.Share so that SOCOM can be seen twice in the top ten. Vote here and tell everyone: http://share.blog.us.playst... [ quot; ] Additionally SOCOM 1 can be recreated and its success can spawn DLC providing us with the maps of SOCOM II fame. This can give us the best of both worlds and further show the demand for the remakes. There is no more fitting game than the first SOCOM, heres why: SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs sold 3.44 million copies worldwide SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs was the first online game for consoles It was revolutionary for console shooters, innovating and addicting Friendships were created, memories were made SOCRACK was born

Raccoon City's environments look dark and grungy. There's definitely a SOCOM-ish feeling to some of the gameplay moments, which could be interesting in a Resident Evil title. Excluding Resident Evil 5, players are normally forced to go it alone in the series, and when the ammo and herbs run out you can pretty much get screwed without adequate knife skills. Now we could potentially play with up to 3 other rifle-wielding, herb-carrying friends, which is a nice change.

On the recent Zipline Episode 13, it was announced that there would be faction specific weaponry which caused a bit of a community uproar after the hassles that it caused in Confrontation. The biggest problem in Confrontation is that certain people preferred different faction specific guns and because of this most clans had far more rosters then was necessary. Recently Jeremy Dunham made a post on the forums clarifying the issue of faction specific weapons. The important point to note for fans fearful of another game with side switching is the quote In multiplayer mode, however, your weapons depend on what side you're on for that match. This statement leads to the conclusion that side switching will not be in the game.

This weeks Zipline, the official Zipper Interactive podcast, had Socom 4 Producer Tom Rigas talking about all things Socom and answering quite a few community questions. The biggest news came from the description of how the sighting in system works. Alongside Zipper community reps Jeremy Dunham and Chris Roper, Rigas discussed how without a scope on your gun, you enter a slightly zoomed in over-the-shoulder view, which sounds like a Socom: Confrontation style zoom. They also stated that almost all guns have at least a red dot scope, so this view would be rarely used.

PS3Hype writes: 'In only 5 weeks, God Of War 3 sold more than 2 million copies around the world. Now it's one of the many PS3 exclusives that sold more than a million copies. Also SOCOM Confrontation made it this week to that list. It sold in more than 6 months 1 million copies. Then we only count the blu-ray sales and not the PSN sales.'

Patch 1.61 is scheduled to be deployed on Thursday, February 18th at 2:00 a.m. PST (10:00 a.m. GMT, 7:00 p.m. JST). Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on the forum. This patch includes adjustments to the following: * Lighting of the night maps * Scope line of sight * Weapon movement while prone This patch also addresses an extremely rare issue concerning the loss of Command Equity. Those who have been following this issue on the forums will know that our Quality Assurance and On-line Support groups have been unable to recreate this issue. However, this patch places additional safe guards into the code that we hope will address the issue.
