PS3 - Skate 2 - NPD reaction: Microsoft reveals 8.2 tie rate, 53 percent sales jump Leigh Alexander from Gamasutra writes:

"Microsoft is celebrating a 53 percent year-over-year spike in Xbox 360 sales following the release of February's NPD results, which saw sales of the console hit 391,000 units.

The company says Xbox 360's "record-setting" sales pace is largely due to its lower price and value proposition, plus its software library. Comparing Metacritic scores, the company says 135 Xbox 360 games score 80 or higher, versus 94 for rival PlayStation 3."

PS3 - Skate 2 - 411's Release List for the Week of January 18, 2009 411mania gives a rundown on this week's game releases. Highlights include Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica, Star Ocean: Second Evolution, Commander in Chief, Big Bang Mini, The Excitement of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Ultimate Shooting Collection.

Ar tonelico II
"Overall, the better-than-average story, unique battle system, and all the little things that you can do in the game help to make this a worthy purchase for those of you who like JRPGs and do not mind buying PS2 games this late in the system's life."

Star Ocean: Second Evolution
"As far as changes go, you can expect new playable characters, updated artwork, cut scenes, and voice work, as well as new dialog."

Commander in Chief
"While I am apprehensive about juggling so many issues at once, I was sold on the idea that I can 'determine the course of world events by invading a neutral country, toppling an unfriendly regime, or plotting assassinations' and then face the 'economic, political, and military consequences.'"

Big Bang Mini
"Obviously, maneuvering around enemy fire, debris, or anything else that's moving about is done with the stylus. To keep the controls completely on the touch screen, the game requires you to flick the stylus toward the top screen to launch attacks. Making it through the game requires you to figure out when to attack and when to move your ship to safety."

Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekidou
"The main game plays simply enough - all you have to do is watch the bar at the bottom of the screen and wave the Wii remote as instructed."

Ultimate Shooting Collection
"Despite its shovelware-looking cover and shovelware-sounding name, the three games that are included might actually be worth more than the shovelware-price, at least if you are a shmup fan."

PS3 - Skate 2 - Gamefly Charts: Lord of the Rings Conquest on Top Gamerdeals.net writes:

"For the week of January 20, 2009, Lord of the Rings: Conquest takes the top spot on the cross-platform Gamefly Top Ten 'Most Queued' list.

Lord of the Rings: Conquest released on January 13, 2009 to mixed reviews. Perhaps the saying... 'it's worth a rental' applies to this particular title.

Following close behind is Skate 2 (PS3/Xbox 360). Surprisingly, Mario Kart Wii continues to hold the top position on the Nintendo Wii Queue list.

PS3 - Skate 2 - PS3 Fanboy : Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of January 18th Jem Alexander writes "EA continues its January release schedule with Skate 2 which, no doubt, will be a bit better than Lord of the Rings: Conquest turned out to be. Hopefully. Asia continues to play catch-up, as ever, with Prince of Persia and WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009. Here's the full release list:

US Games

Skate 2

EU Games

Skate 2

Asian Games

Skate 2
Prince of Persia
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009

PS3 games are region free. Not that it matters this week, but if you're feeling particularly barmy you could always import a version of Skate 2 from abroad. It'll still work. Though any downloadable content would need to be downloaded from the appropriate region's PSN Store, so it's probably best not to. Release dates are constantly subject to change, so confirm with your local retailer before you leave the house.
