Unfortunately, Atlus' release of the PS2 sequel a few years ago wasn't very well received - some were impressed with the visuals and a lot of people liked the story, but many found the combat system off and most agreed that the voicework was bad. Luckily, MagnaCarta II features a whole new cast of characters, a new storyline, and a different fighting system, so knowledge of the previous games are not necessary."

SCEE has secured a licensing deal with Universal Music UK that will see an influx of the label's most successful tracks making their way to the SingStore in the future – and it begins with the first arrivals on August 8th.

The deal will include tracks from the likes of Elton John, Girls Aloud, The Police, Cher, Snow Patrol and The Killers join the already bulging line-up of classics available to download off Sony's in-game portal.

A new voice control menu will enable players to scroll through the song carousel and select the tracks they'd like to sing by simply speaking into the microphone. In addition to voice control, the new patch will include support for over 30 trophies including 'Super Singer Gold', 'Keep it Cool' and 'All Eyes on You', quick song purchase functionality and an enhanced redesign of the SingStore and MySingStarOnline. The new patch is free to users and will be compatible with all SingStar PS3 discs.

For all you Queen fans, late last week we announced the upcoming release of SingStar Queen for the PS3 and PS2. Available as a standalone disc on August 18, SingStar Queen features over 20 classic hits from the iconic pop-rock group including 'We Are The Champions,' 'Another One Bites The Dust,' 'We Will Rock You,' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Under Pressure'. SCEE is pretty happy with all you PAL SingStar fans, so far you have downloaded 4 million extra tracks from the SingStore (60 000 per week!) and uploaded nearly 100 000 video performances on My SingStar Online. Just as well there are 1000 downloadable tracks on the SingStore for PS3 to keep the 6000 new fans that sign up per week and overall 400 000 SingStars entertained.

Andrew Lloyd-Webber, composer of numerous hit musicals such as the Phantom of the Opera and Cats, may soon see his works adapted into SingStar-style singalong videogames.
Webber's company Really Useful Group is shopping the concept around to various publishers, including Electronic Arts.

The impetus behind the singalong idea is "the emergence of more female gamers in the traditionally male-dominated game consumer demographic, and the popularity of singing- and music-based titles like Playstation's Singstar and Xbox's Lips," according to Paidcontent

MCV: Following on from reports of a pending arrival for the long-awaited wireless microphones for Sony's SingStar, SCEE has confirmed to MCV that an early 2009 arrival is indeed on the cards.

An SCEE spokesperson stated: "We are indeed currently testing wireless mics with our community. We haven't actually announced the launch date or price point yet."

The source went on to say that the release date was likely to fall "in the early part of the new year".

Sony hasn't fallen behind in the social gaming race, it has insisted.

Speaking at the Gamer 3.0 conference this morning in London, which is part of the London Games Festival, Jamie MacDonald, vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios insisted that the SingStar, Buzz! And EyeToy games are "still hugely successful".

Queen Hits PS3 SingStore, Song Selection Is Amazing (News)

While the world waits patiently for SingStar Queen, Sony have gone and done the next best thing, and released two Queen song packs onto the PS3's downloadable SingStore. The ten songs included across the two packs will most probably all be found on the standalone PS2 version, and from the look of them, it's a highlights reel, with Bohemian Rhapsody, One Vision, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions and I Want It All included.

A patch went out for SingStar a few hours ago which allows users of the popular music game to swap discs to access the content from other SingStar titles. However, this patch will only enable PS3 game discs to be swapped -- not PS2 games. (We're assuming that PS2 functionality will come at a later point.) For Americans that doesn't mean much, as SingStar Volume 2 won't be available until next month.

Edge writes: "The present and future of the SingStar franchise was brought more into focus at GC Leipzig Wednesday, as SCEE announced sales milestones and upcoming products for the karaoke series.

Through multiple press releases, Sony Europe has revealed that SingStar as a franchise has sold 13M discs across PAL territories, supplemented by sales DLC sales of 2M songs via the SingStore. In late April, SCEE announced that it had sold 12M retail copies of the games as well as 1M SingStore songs across the same region.

According to SCEE, one SingStore song is sold every ten seconds. My SingStar functionality has also been embraced by 200,000 users, who have uploaded over 50,000 videos to the service to date."

It is believed this list of songs will only be available on the Euro store, with a different selection hitting the US one. Sony Europe boss David Reeves has told Eurogamer to expect "the next generation of SingStar" at Games Convention.

We were speaking to Reeves at an event in Santa Monica today and asked for his views on Microsoft's new karaoke game Lips.

"If you come to Leipzig, you will see the next generation of SingStar," he told us. "That's all I will say."

SingStar senior producer Tasmin Lucas tells Paris GDC attendees how Sony London has been able to crank out over 100 SingStar titles in the past four years.

If you've had trouble keeping up with the number of SingStar titles, it's because "by the end of the year, we'll have actually released 116 discs in four years," Tasmin Lucas, senior producer for Sony's SingStar franchise told professionals at the Paris Game Developers Conference on Monday.

SingStar Video Portal Coming Soon To North America (News)

A Sony spokesperson told MTV Multiplayer that the SingStar Web Video Portal, already available in different parts of the world through the official website, will soon be available in North America.

"We are working on some localization issues to integrate globally and it should be ready to roll out in the US shortly," said the Sony spokesperson. The SingStar video portal lets you watch SingStar user performances and vote for them.

Yesterday's 'version 2' update for SingStar seems to have brought more than just Harmony Mode. Indeed, you can now make use of SingStar Volume 2's best new feature, PSP connectivity, without buying Volume 2. Install the update patch, switch on Remote Play and if the SingStar disk is in the PS3 you can browse not only your media (videos, audio etc) stored on the PS3 harddrive but also access the SingStore and start your downloads going before you even get home from work.
