Since 1996, developer Fireaxis Games have produced numerous award winning titles from the great mind of Sid Meier, notably the Civilization franchise. Civilization, has always had a home on the PC, but back in 2008 the franchise made a terrific debut on current generation consoles with Civilization Revolution. Since then, the series has returned to the PC, but with Fireaxis now hiring for console talent, could we once again see Civilization come to consoles?

PS3 Fanboy writes: It's another catch-up week this week, as the US finally gets its hands on Civilization Revolution and Asia is given Dark Sector and Kane & Lynch (though probably wishes it wasn't.) Europe is barren this week and the only new release of the bunch probably won't appeal to many people, unless you really love your Olympics. Here's the full release list: US Games: Civilization Revolution Beijing Olympics 2008 EU Games: No new releases Asian Games: Dark Sector Kane & Lynch

Firaxis and 2K Games write: Civilization Revolution has a new release date in the U.S. and Canada. All three versions of the game (Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3, and Nintendo DS) will ship on July 7th and begin to appear in stores on July 8th. In Europe, the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 versions of Civilization Revolution will still appear in stores on June 6th. For players in the U.S. and Canada, we are going to take this extra time to make your launch of Civilization Revolution even more awesome than initially planned. We have a lot of things up our sleeve to tide you over: We are going to set up some extensive multiplayer tournaments for US and Canadian players. These tournaments will run off the Civilization multiplayer demo, so everyone can enjoy them. Perks for the winners of these contests are still being worked out, but those who are victorious can expect to get some limited edition Civilization Revolution swag, cash prizes, and a lucky few will face off against the teams at 2K and Firaxis. In addition, we are setting up gift-with-purchase programs with some retailers in the U.S. and Canada to thank you for your patience and understanding.

This is not a PC game, said producer Jason Bergman to MTV Multiplayer. It's been designed as a console game. It's very, very different from 'Civ[ilization] 4' and we don't want it to be looked at as 'Civ[ilization] 5.' We don't want people to think that this is meant to replace the existing 'Civ' games. This is a totally different game, created exclusively for consoles. It is never coming to PC.

These days, if a publisher's not actively working on something Wii related, stockholders are asking why. With Wii's momentum showing no signs of slowing, would a company actually cancel an in-development Wii title? 2K Games (and by association, their owners at Take-Two Interactive) did that last week, when IGN reveald revealed the console version of Sid Meier's strategy series, Civilization Revolution, was no longer coming to Wii, but still on for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS. What they didn't announce was why they were canceling it, so MTV Multiplayer got in touch with Firaxis Programmer Scott Lewis to figure out what happened.
