However, perhaps the most exciting addition to the game - and one that might just threaten Rockstar’s domination of the genre - is the inclusion of an online co-op mode, which will allow players to team up and take on the entire single-player campaign. This sounds like a shrewd move to us, but how it will affect the way missions are tackled remains to be seen.

Other, rather predictable improvements include added weather effects, more responsive citizens and an expanded roster of vehicles to steal including motorcycles, helicopters and planes. Given the frustrating delay of GTA IV, the stakes have undoubtedly been raised for Saints Row 2 developers Volition. But as to whether or not it will be a fair fight we just don’t know enough about either game to tell at the moment.
