Erik Estavillo claims Sony Computer Entertainment violated his freedom of speech by banning him from an online video game portal, which he claims he uses as a tool to overcome agoraphobia. In videos posted to YouTube, Estavillo can be heard saying racial and homophobic slurs to other online gamers, for which Sony revoked his online access to their network.

Hardcore Resistance fans believe PS3 exclusive first-person shooter Resistance 2 "was a failure", according to developer Insomniac.

That's the stark admission from senior community manager James Stevenson, who told VideoGamer.com in a wide-ranging interview that long term fan feedback "weighed" on him.

"The hardcore fans of Resistance 1 were maybe a little bit disappointed. Those folks consistently expressing that - especially GAF [NeoGAF] - it was like your dog turned on you," Stevenson explained.

Insomniac Games has created some incredible games for the PlayStation consoles over the past 15 years. Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, and Resistance are some of the well known franchises included in that line up, but it's a sin not to recognize the less famous titles the developer punched out, like Disruptor, as well. Insomniac recently announced, in fact, that they have sold an astonishing 32 million plus PlayStation exclusive games.

WildStorm (a branch of DC Comics) will be unleashing a 6 part graphic novel series which will utilize the universe of Resistance and it's primary protagonist named Nathan Hale. Mike Costa touts the writer credit, while Ramón Pérez will be at helm of the art. The issues are expected to cover the various events leading up to the beginning of the second title and serve as a direct tie-in to the game's plotline.

Despite an interview with Eurogamer yesterday Insomniac developer J Stevenson has confirmed that there'll be no Trophies or Home support for Resistance: Fall of Man.

"We'd have to take people off of R2 to go back, re-open the code and develop a patch" he said speaking on NeoGAF, "Figure out what the trophies would be, apply that, test it, etc. Lots of work, and lots of time taken away from R2 production."

Resistance is said to provide Home visitors with an interesting room to explore, one that will let PlayStation 3 owners visit unseen areas of the game and tap into bonus content in the form of "intercepted" radio communications between European and U.S. forces.

Sony Japan is set to continue a PlayStation tradition with the PlayStation 3: an official budget lineup. A Japanese online retailer has posted listings for the first set of PS3 titles to fall under the new "PlayStation 3 the Best" lineup.

According to the retailer, PS3 owners in Japan will soon be able to pick up PlayStation 3 the Best versions of Resistance, FolksSoul, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gundam: Target in Sight, and Ridge Racer 7 for 3,800 yen ($35 USD) each. All five will arrive on 3/19.

Earlier this year, Sony sent a letter of apology to the Church of England over using Manchester Cathedral as a setting for Resistance: Fall of Man without permission. "It was not our intention to cause offense by using a representation of Manchester Cathedral in chapter eight of the work," the letter said. "If we have done so, we sincerely apologize." Now, the Church of England is pleading with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to withdraw the game from a list of seven contenders for the academy's video game award. According to the Associated Press, the category Resistance: Fall of Man is listed in is the only one in which fans will decide the winner.

The category is the only one at this year's BAFTA 2007 Video Game Awards that will be decided by the public. Closing date for an entry is Wednesday 17th October 2007. The winner will be announced at Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London on Tuesday, October 23.

The Xbox 360 version of BioShock has topped the latest Swedish multiformat sale chart, which is otherwise dominated by PC games. The next five games on the chart are all PC titles - including the PC version of BioShock, listed at number 6. Interestingly, not a single Wii game is in the top 20 spots on the multiformat chart.

With the addition on Insomniacs much anticipated map pack and global server update for Resistance: Fall of Man, many Resistance players have been left with a question, "are there more map packs to come?" The reason for this question is that with the new update, Insomniac has left the door wide open to easily add additional maps/add ons. The addition of an in game purchase button which shows Map Pack 1 (yes numerical as if there are 2,3...more to come) with lots of additional space below. If that wasn't convincing enough, the addition to the player stats page, a list of the map pack(s) that that player has purchased, with again lots of additional space below for upcoming maps/add ons.

The real question is, will Insomniac be able to maintain its supremacy with its blockbuster FPS with adding on additional content through the upcoming months with so many highly anticipated releases coming out? Only time will tell.

Unphased by its recent fallout with the Church of England, Sony has announced that it's releasing the first new multiplayer maps for the Resistance: Fall of Man. To sweeten the deal, the global servers for the controversial shooter will go live on Friday.

The map pack will include two new multiplayer territories. Sony's spiel on the maps reads as follows: "Launch silent sniper attacks across the snowy slopes of Westmorland, taking cover in the shadow of Chimeran architecture, or go below ground with all guns blazing to save autumnal Camborn from the plague of inhuman invaders." That's Chimeran architecture, not Anglican.

Insomniac Announces Resistance Update (News)

Insomniac was one of the few developers to join the delay band wagon with its anticipated Resistance: Fall of Man update being pushed back multiple times. And for the past few weeks, a release date hasn't been disclosed. However, the wait may be over.

Several members of the Myresistance.net community are reporting an in-game announcement regarding the world wide update. As of now the announcement has only been sent out to Europe users.

The announcement states: The UK servers will have a downtime period that will begin at 2:30am (UK time) and will last throughout the day on June 29th. Furthermore, the worldwide servers and map packs will then be available when the server is back online.

Insomniac has yet to announce details of the map pack and worldwide online play update for other territories.

Seems like many user(including me) on www.myresistance.net are experiencing problems with their statistics being frozen for the last few days on Resistance: Fall of Man. Could this just be a problem with the Resistance online servers or a sign that the International Patch will be released soon? Maybe the Church of England is attacking the Resistance servers, who knows?

We just have to hope that this problem will be fixed soon.

Tony Blair has given his response to the complaints expressed by the Church over Resistance: Fall of Man, telling parliament that companies must take responsibility for the impact their products have.

During today's Prime Minister's Questions Tony Lloyd, MP for Manchester Central, began his question by observing, "When large organisations like Sony find their copyright has been breached, they're very quick to use the law."

He continued, "Would the Prime Minister agree with me then that when Sony used images of Manchester Cathedral as part a game which extols gun violence, this was not only in bad taste but also very, very insulting to not simply the Church of England, but people across the land who think it's inappropriate that big corporations behave in this way?"

Blair replied, "I agree with my honourable friend. I think it's important that any of the companies engaged in promoting these types of goods have some sense of responsibility and also some sensitivity to the feelings of others.

"I think this is an immensely difficult area, the relationship between what happens with these games and its impact on young people,"

Insomniac and Sony have announced that they will be introducing a new ban policy for Resistance: Fall of Man which is effective immediately.

The first thing in the new policy is offensive user names and clan tags (including combinations of both, obviously). Some users have been combining the first three letters of their clan tag with their username to create words that violate the EULA. If you do this and get reported you will earn yourself a permanent ban from Resistance and your Playstation Network account will be suspended.

That's right, folks. Yet another US-based business analyst has chucked his hat into the ring, this time predicting that the Xbox 360 will be the next-gen consoles market leader. Sigh. You know, what we'd really like to do is get all these guys together in a room, lock the door, shout 'FIGHT' through the letterbox and retire to a safe distance...

The controversial soothsayer in this instance is one Bill Kreher of A.G. Edwards financial consultants. In a recent interview with Next Generation Bill has even taken the brave/foolish step to quantify Microsoft's dominance of the American market, stating that the Xbox 360's "first mover advantage" will see the console attain a 38% share by 2009. Well, if the Xbox 360 really does have, as Bill reckons, a five million headstart over the PS3 in the USA he's probably not a mile off! In the meantime the Wii will have a 34% slice of the pie, leaving just 28% for the PS3. Ouch!

USA: 660,000+

Official confirmation would be nice. But if this is so it will be a great milestone for Sony and Insomniacs joint venture.

Gamerzines, the site behind the free magazines for Xbox 360, PC games, PSP and DS, has launched its free PlayStation 3 magazine to co-incide with the UK launch of the console. As with other Gamerzines, the magazine is written by professional games journalists and offered for free in a digital format. All that is required is Adobe Reader 8 on a PC. The magazine is enhanced with videos and multimedia that play on the pages themselves.

Issue 1 is available for download immediately and covers every single European launch game, as well as lengthy preview feature highlighting their pick of the top 20 games still to come on the PS3 this year.

The magazine is to publish a new issue for free every month from launch, to match the other existing Gamerzines for other platforms.

Here's some info on the kind of things that you will be able to pick up on the PSN come April.

If you've already managed to take your games through their paces by then, you'll be able to add some more flavour by downloading different sets of battle dress for your four playable Genji characters. Or if that doesn't grab you, you can always opt for the school uniformÂ¿

There will also the option to customise your car and download a special race event for Ridge Racer, two new playable maps for Resistance: Fall of Man and any PS3 owner playing MotorStorm online will receive Time Trial Mode automatically Â¿ you won't even need to download this one from the Store.

Phew, anyone would think that European think launch day was just around the cornerÂ¿
