Bay Area Gamer Takes Playstation 3 Lawsuit To Appeals Court (News)

Erik Estavillo claims Sony Computer Entertainment violated his freedom of speech by banning him from an online video game portal, which he claims he uses as a tool to overcome agoraphobia. In videos posted to YouTube, Estavillo can be heard saying racial and homophobic slurs to other online gamers, for which Sony revoked his online access to their network.

Hardcore Resistance fans believe PS3 exclusive first-person shooter Resistance 2 "was a failure", according to developer Insomniac.

That's the stark admission from senior community manager James Stevenson, who told VideoGamer.com in a wide-ranging interview that long term fan feedback "weighed" on him.

"The hardcore fans of Resistance 1 were maybe a little bit disappointed. Those folks consistently expressing that - especially GAF [NeoGAF] - it was like your dog turned on you," Stevenson explained.

TripleChat reports that a price cut to Sony's monster of a console is all but inevitable now. With reports coming in that Microsoft will phase out its 60GB Pro model and reduce the price of the Elite unit to $299; Sony is going to have to step up and reduce the price of their console. TripleChat states that potential buyers everywhere should expect both the announcement of the PS3 Slim model as well as a price cut to go with it next week at Games Con.

We knew that the Chimera advanced swiftly but we didn't know it was this bad: the news just in is that the power-hungry wretches have attacked PlayStation Home, the free, interactive space for PS3 users.

This new area in Home features a recreation of the Chicago Railway Station level from the current PS3 hit Resistance 2, which sees America under siege from the Chimeran hordes.

Even just on paper, the number for Insomniac Games' second Resistance title is impressive: 60 players in the competitive modes (which include straight deathmatch as well as more objective-based modes that divvy up all those players into squads) and 8 players in the cooperative one. While one would naturally assume that adding 20 more players to what was already an impressive feat in the original Resistance's 40 online players would just mean bigger maps, there were far bigger ramifications.

In a session titled "Pushing the Limits: The Technical, Design, and Social Ramifications from Increasing Player Counts in Online Multiplayer Games," Resistance 2 Cooperative Design Lead Jake Biegel and R2 Competitive Design Lead Mike Roloson detailed some of the issues they came across when upping the player counts to the largest seen in a console game thus far.

The DLC comes in two forms: new competitive multiplayer maps and character skins. The Aftermath Map Pack features three new battlefields, two set in Twin Falls (Aftermath and Pit Stop) and another in Orick (Outpost). All of the maps support 20-player Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, while Outpost also lets you play 20-player Core Control. The Aftermath Map Pack will be available for download through the PlayStation Store for $5.99.

Prosecutor Kim Worthy was responsible for sentencing Kwame Kilpatrick in 2008. Now that she has more time on her hands again, she is back to attacking video games again with her annual top 10 violent videos games of 2008 list.

Yes, all of the games on the list are violent; however her statement that violent games cause teens and kids to act violently is one more of a continuing trend. She even claims that violent video games were the result of a hate crime she prosecuted earlier in the year, yet she never provides any proof that games do cause violent actions or this was the case. Maybe this is something she should consider doing, being a prosecutor.

WildStorm (a branch of DC Comics) will be unleashing a 6 part graphic novel series which will utilize the universe of Resistance and it's primary protagonist named Nathan Hale. GamesIndustry.biz has learnt that EUK customers, Zavvi, WHSmith and Currys.digital are still awaiting their supply of the anticipated first-person shooter, originally released on Friday November 28.

Kotakuite Cyruss sends us full scans of the four-page wrap-around that lovingly embraced the actual free Dublin morning papers Metro and Herald AM. Stories range from the front-page spectacular to a scientific analysis of the Chimera and a letter from the President of the United States to the American people, urging them to band together against the Chimera threat.

Last weekend turned out to be an interesting one for those interested in the culture of game reviewing. Whilst Keith Stuart of the Guardian Gamesblog was questioning whether reviewers really cared about (or even understood) innovation when critiquing games, Edge-Online published a review that gave 'Resistance 2' a quite controversial but perhaps not surprising 6 out of 10.

Sony New Zealand has announced a significant Christmas marketing campaign which covers their leading range of PlayStation platforms and exclusive software titles.

Spearheaded by PlayStation 3, the campaign will showcase the 'world of entertainment' that only PlayStation can deliver to all entertainment seekers, with both hardware and software set to be promoted through an integrated campaign that includes TV, online, experiential, PR, plus a strong retail presence, all in the lead up to Christmas.

Sony NZ also confirmed that it will be offering one bonus game with every PS3 purchased during the holiday season. Consumers will have the choice between LittleBigPlanet, SingStar ABBA (with microphones), MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2, as and when each new blockbuster title is released over the coming weeks. All games are exclusive to PS3 and valued at $119.95.
