"While on the subway today reading the Toronto Metro newspaper I came across an EB Games full page ad for a pretty good PS3 deal in Effect from November 23 - December 13. If you purchase an 80GB PS3 ($399 + tax) they will also give you a free game out of a selection of five titles.

Normally when I hear an offer like this my internal gamer radar tells me the free game will either be something crappy, like oh say Kung-Fu Panda or a game like Uncharted that is really good, but so last year.

Amazingly enough, this deal has decided to be in defiance of gamer radar and is not entirely full of suck."

How do us consumers use the work of critics in their own decision making and why do they show such hostility to poor reviews?

Last weekend turned out to be an interesting one for those interested in the culture of game reviewing. Whilst Keith Stuart of the Guardian Gamesblog was questioning whether reviewers really cared about (or even understood) innovation when critiquing games, Edge-Online published a review that gave 'Resistance 2' a quite controversial but perhaps not surprising 6 out of 10.

Sony New Zealand has announced a significant Christmas marketing campaign which covers their leading range of PlayStation platforms and exclusive software titles.

Spearheaded by PlayStation 3, the campaign will showcase the 'world of entertainment' that only PlayStation can deliver to all entertainment seekers, with both hardware and software set to be promoted through an integrated campaign that includes TV, online, experiential, PR, plus a strong retail presence, all in the lead up to Christmas.

Sony NZ also confirmed that it will be offering one bonus game with every PS3 purchased during the holiday season. Consumers will have the choice between LittleBigPlanet, SingStar ABBA (with microphones), MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2, as and when each new blockbuster title is released over the coming weeks. All games are exclusive to PS3 and valued at $119.95.
