Now you have one.

Sony is putting on a great deal for you to get a PLAYSTATION 3. If you get a PS3 from December 18th, you get the choice of 2 demo discs, either white or red.

The white disc is more or less based on young children and young teens but the red disc is where most of the good stuff will be."

The good news is the demo will be making an appearance on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 (the Japanese demo is still only confirmed for Xbox 360), but sadly will be arriving a little later than December 5. Whether this means we won't see the demo this year isn't clear."

Capcom, however, has confirmed that the demo will be appearing on both the PSN and XBox Live Marketplace, and in all major regions as well.

Kramez writes "While us lazy Americans are winding down in preparation for an entire day of stuffing our collective piehole, our fellows at headquarters in Japan are busily dropping Resident Evil 5 news. This week's Famitsu Magazine has news that the Xbox 360 demo for RE5 will be dropping in Japan on December 5th. Our intrepid Investor Relations team have also revealed that development on RE5 is actually proceeding faster than predicted and, as a result, the release date of Resident Evil 5 in Japan is moving up one week to March 5, 2009.

What does this mean to you, Joe Sixpack, denizen of the Land of the Free and the Home of the Collapsing Economy? Not much. Resident Evil 5 is still on track for the previously-announced Friday the 13th, March 2009, release in both North America and Europe. Fear not, we will also be seeing demos for both the 360 and PS3 versions of the game, but they will be hitting N. America a bit later than the Japanese demo. Stay tuned, more to come on the demos soon!"

"The translation is in. Apparently, Famitsu only makes mention of the Xbox 360. This means that (and we're not the only ones to presume this conclusion) that the Xbox 360 will receive an (timed) exclusive demo of Resident Evil 5 next week (in Japan). Sorry, PlayStation 3 owners, there's nothing for you just yet.

The demo will feature two urban settings, playable both offline and through online co-op. It's the same demo you might have previously watched us journalists playing."

With the release of Resident Evil 5 edging nearer and nearer, has anybody been curious about just what kind of Resident Evil 5 achievements Capcom will have set up for the Xbox 360 version? Personally, I'm the kind of person who loves to see that little "Achievement Unlocked" message spring up at the bottom of my screen as I'm playing. I won't go on about just how genius the Xbox 360's achievement list system is either.

Here is a Q and A with Ben LeRougetel, Capcom UK's head of PR. Read on for inside information about the co-op elements in the game and the new control system. Sadly those in the know are still keeping details on the bad guy and big monsters under wraps but more unveils are promised soon so stay tuned.

When asked whether his team had learned any lessons from western titles, Kawata responded: "BioShock. It's a classic game which really utilised the next gen power very well. The world is very strong and very believable, and the whole game was quite inspiring."
However, we thought you'd appreciate this list of new games which will definitely be supporting Trophies when they release on the PS3. Big first-party and third-party titles can be found on this list:

* Demon's Soul
* Derby Time Online
* Gomibako
* Quantum Theory
* Resident Evil 5
* Street Fighter IV
* White Knight Chronicles
* Yakuza 3

Unfortunately, the status of other big PS3 games, like Final Fantasy XIII, is still TBD."
Resident Evil 5, the next gem in Capcom's Biohazard franchise, is set in rural Africa and has had people excited for months. The demo had two choices of level and I had the opportunity to play both. They were both fairly similar anyway and like the small towns you see in the trailers. Significantly, you can select which control system you would like to use. I tried both systems, so I can explain the basics of both."
Chris Redfield's little outing in Africa couldn't get any better as his age-old nemesis is back for another bout. Yes, Albert Wesker is indeed to appear in RE5.

I'm sure you guys remember him - first seen in Resident Evil, then appearing again in RE: Code Veronica, RE Zero, RE4, and of course, played a pivotal role in Umbrella Chronicles. Oh, and the RE: Extinction movie too."

Capcom just released their Q1 financial Q&A session. With all the highly anticipated games coming out within the next 6 months, investors were concerned with how well Resident Evil 5 would fare against the fierce competition. Capcom's response radiated confidence, replying that Resident Evil 5 had "strong brand power" and "a special game concept... that you can't find in any other games". They concluded, stating "Capcom is not all that concerned about competition".

"Call me a wimp, but my time with Resident Evil 5 in Capcom's press room left me with a chill down my spine. It wasn't a fear of grotesque monster-infested loonies running rampid that got to me, it was the giant freak with a chainsaw and bag over his face that ripped my partner in half that really left an impression. Even though it scared the living hell out of me, it left me wanting more, way more."
Jun Takeuchi talked to MTV's Stephen Totilo about the controversial racist undertones in Resident Evil 5. The adventure's action occurs in Africa, where many of the enemies are hostile villagers of black descent attacking a Caucasian protagonist.

Totilo's co-writer N'Gai Croal wrote on MTV's Multiplayer gaming blog that, after seeing RE5 for the first time, didn't "feel like anybody black worked on this game." Takeuchi was asked if the team had expected a reaction or had foreseen the racial issues.

He responded:"
Jaw dropping, even. The game really looks like what people have been waiting for. What's not to like? The criticism level against the game has been the fact it uses Resident 4's controls. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you liked Resident Evil 4! But as RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi pointed out:

It's possible that a lot of people who play Resident Evil 5 may not have played Resident Evil 4. But they might have played Gears of Wars or Call of Duty. Those are both games that I and our team really, really like. So don't be surprised if at the Tokyo Game Show, the controls are different. For now, we have the control set up for RE4. I'm not confirming or denying anything, but we like to surprise people."

Brad Nicholson of Destructoid writes: "Resident Evil 5's composer Kota Suzuki recently took a trip to Los Angeles to record the melodramatic portion of the upcoming horror game. Suzuki utilized the 103-piece ensemble of the Hollywood Studio Symphony to lay down his tracks. At the end of the day, only fifteen minutes of music was required to fulfill the need.

Scoring Sessions reports that the music "sounded large on the stage, with frenetic orchestral driving rhythms, and strong melodic themes." Portions of the session had an African theme, which was pronounced by an assortment of percussion that originated from the continent. An additional little ditty was created for the opening of the game.

As much as I would love to act like a connoisseur of fine music, I still find the majority of my time with KMFDM pumping in my ears. Fifteen minutes seems short though, even if the score is looped repeatedly over crazy break beats. Yet, I like the trouble to which Capcom went. To me, flying overseas instead of emulating an orchestral score is a sign of quality to come. Spare no expense Capcom. I think we're all ready to bust some zombie heads again in 2009."

Therefore, when Capcom announced that there would be a major reveal for Resident Evil 5 at next month's E3, pardon me if I was not too blown away with shock and awe.

"Please take this as a rumor as that's all it is at this point. No solid information on the subject yet.

From what I have been told, Microsoft is looking to pay Capcom an undisclosed amount, for timed exclusivity of Resident Evil 5. It is still not known if Capcom has accepted the offer¿ The information we got, was only that Microsoft has made the offer.

If this is going to be announced it will be @ E3. Similar to the GTAIV "showing of the tattoo" a couple of years ago.
It this is true, all of you petition fanatics out there better get to work.

Kotaku writes: "When Capcom first showed Resident Evil 5 at E3 2007, there was a collective sense that what we'd just seen was going to stir the pot, as a big brawny white guy had just done his share of laying waste to an angry mob of Africans. Sure enough, Capcom of Japan received more than its share of criticism from those inside and outside of the gaming press. The first to lobby a notable complaint was blog Black Looks, writing that RE5 was "problematic on so many levels, including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages."

Newsweek's general editor of tech N'Gai Croal later levied a similar but more measured assessment, saying that much of what was shown in the initial trailer "dovetailed with classic racist imagery," leaving him with the impression that "Clearly no one black worked on this game.""

Responding to an inquiry from a European journalist, who raised the prospect of a PS3 control system similar to Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Takeuchi said Sony's much-maligned motion-sensing controller "was not quite sensitive enough for that".

Takeuchi expressed his fondness for the PS3, though, calling it "a great system". "We're really pleased with it, and certainly as with other developers we did have problems getting to grips with it at first, but now understanding how it works it allows us to do a lot of things we couldn't do before," he said through a translator at Capcom's Captivate 08 event in Las Vegas."

After a gruelling ten-month wait, Capcom finally lifted the curtain on its latest Resident Evil 5 trailer this weekend, showcasing yet more of highly anticipated Survival Horror title, and offering us a better glimpse at Chris Redfield's latest mission as he went toe-to-toe with dozens of infected villagers, canines and chainsaw-wielding psychopaths in a remote, dilapidated African village.

Given how there is so much more to go on this time around, PSU thought they'd take the time to dissect this latest portion of Resi action and take a look at some of the more conspicuous elements contained within.

Destructoid writes: "As is typical with games of its caliber, there is much about Resident Evil 5 that is shrouded in mysteries and questions. At Capcom's Las Vegas media event, CAPTIVATE 08, co-producers Jun Takeuchi and Masachicka Kawata aren't exactly forthcoming with the answers you might have wanted. Speaking via a translator to a room full of weary gaming journalists (tired from a long night of drinking and Rock Band, of all things), the Japanese-speaking Takeuchi present to us most of the things we already knew.

Resident Evil 5 sees the return of series-regular Chris Redfield, who has joined a new organization and is sent on assignment to Africa, where a virus is transforming its people and animals into mindless, blood-thirsty creatures. Takeuchi introduces us to the trailer you've no doubt already seen by now, dimming the lights and politely asking us to resist our own animal urges to take notes. Not surprisingly, the trailer reinforces much of what we already knew, and manages introduces a new unknown -- a mysterious female that appears to fight side-by-side with Chris. But Takeuchi's lips are sealed."
Make of it what you will, but we're betting it has something to do with the aforementioned trailer on May 31.

PSU Writes:

In March, we posted a rumor on how Resident Evil 5 was expected to hit as early as October (possibly Halloween). This was in support of the rumor that released in April's issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. Well, we've received an update from our source stating that Capcom has now pushed the title back to release in November.

We've also been told that Sherry Birkin (the young girl who assisted Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2) will play a role in Resident Evil 5. Since the game takes place 10 years after Resident Evil 2, that puts Birkin at about 22yrs. Old ¿ the perfect age for killing zombies.

Could she be the second playable character for the rumored Co-op? Only time will tell, however, this role may be reserved the female mercenary recently shown in Japan's Famitsu magazine.
Then boy are you going to be happy to hear this: The UK mag Xbox World 360 (via sister publication GamesRadar) has a new preview of Resident Evil 5 where -- among other things -- they break the news of full online co-op throughout the entire game. The preview appears to have since been removed from GamesRadar (though links on the site still point to it), but 1up managed to catch all the juiciest details.

During a recent interview with MTV Multiplayer (concerning the depiction of blacks in games), N'Gai Croal of Newsweek gave an enlightening talk about the controversy behind the Resident Evil 5 trailer, and how Capcom could have done things to avoid the unnecessary fuss.

According to Croal, it was just a few moments in, when he realized that there were some things about the trailer that had the potential to inflame members of the black community, however unintentional it might have been. While the majority of us were fawning over the detailed images and dynamic lighting -- not to mention getting all antsy about the debut of a new Resident Evil game on next-generation hardware since RE4 righted the series again -- others were seeing something starkly different. To them the trailer contained just over three minutes of classic racist imagery that many Caucasians (including myself) never even noticed:

More on this, after the jump:

"There was stuff like even before the point in the trailer where the crowd turned into zombies. There sort of being, in sort of post-modern parlance, they're sort of "othered." They're hidden in shadows, you can barely see their eyes, and the perspective of the trailer is not even someone who's coming to help the people. It's like they're all dangerous; they all need to be killed. It's not even like one cute African - or Haitian or Caribbean - child could be saved. They're all dangerous men, women and children. They all have to be killed."

Croal then goes on to touch upon Resident Evil 4, and that even though the zombies (yes, I know they were supposedly not zombies in that game) were obviously non-white, a fair comparison cannot be made, considering the historical American race relations of the past...
No plans for RE4 on 360 or PS3 at this time. - Christian Svensson, Capcom Entertainment Inc. - Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development.

Sketchy details emerged early last week about the possibility of yet another version of Resident Evil 4 being readied for the marketplace. Following the success of the game on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, PC and Wii, if the source was to be believed then there is yet another iteration in the works for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, called 'Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition'. But is this truth or nothing more than an elaborate April Fools' joke?
