Today, Capcom have confirmed plans to release two new downloadable episodes, a host of new costumes, and a new The Mercenaries Reunion mode, featuring eight new playable characters and weapon load-outs.

It looks like the only way to get your hands on the motion controlled version of Resident Evil 5 will be to repurchase the game when it's released as the Alternative Edition next year. Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi explained that the size of the new content would be 'too big to be DLC'. The Alternative Edition also contains a new 2 hour scenario surrounding Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. There will also be a new game mode, teased Takeuchi.

VG247: Looks like some more DLC may be heading to Resident Evil 5, according to Capcom's Chris Kramer.

Speaking with VG247 during its latest podcast, Kramer stated that currently the firm is discussing the possibility of releasing more downloadable content for the title, and is looking to the community for ideas and suggestions.

"We're talking about it. I don't know if you have seen some of the threads on Capcom Unity, but questions came up on whether we are going to do any more," he said. "I asked what people would want to see and that spawned a thread that was literally hundreds of posts long and had tens of thousands of views."

The fans either want a port/remake or a completely new sequel to the Outbreak series. There's a multitude of links to petitions and even avatar and signature images to help promote the cause further. Resident Evil 5 was all about partners and teamwork but a modern Outbreak would be fantastic. Something along the lines of a more serious and scary Left 4 Dead would be great. Paul W.S. Anderson's next Resident Evil film will not be releasing in September as previously stated, but a little earlier on August 27th. Apparently Anderson who is both the writer and director has been researching nearly every 3D film to hit the big screen to be ready for his first foray into the 3rd dimension of cinema. Our guess is that he needs to find some ways to incorporate 3D scenes without forcing them. Since Afterlife is supposed to be a reboot, we'll just pretend Extinction never happen and pray this film stays at least a mile from the source material.

IndustryGamers recently reported on new findings from the folks at EEDAR. The firm's latest report, revealed this week during the [a]list Summit by Ayzenberg Group, showed that the top 10 selling games this year through June have been mostly dominated by older titles like Wii Fit or Mario Kart Wii. There were a few exceptions, and Capcom's blockbuster Resident Evil 5 was one of the big ones. The game is second in sales this year so far, only to Wii Fit. In fact, it's sold close to 2 million in the U.S. and around 5 million globally, making it the most successful entry in the franchise yet.

So what did Capcom do differently this time? Besides the fact that they made a very good game, the marketing team really kicked it up a notch prior to launch, and this was critical to the title's success, EEDAR points out.

But they're not playing alone, because Takeuchi followed that up by saying "it doesn't appear as though either of us is going to be in charge" of the next game.

Paul W.S. Anderson tells Shock Till You Drop that Resident Evil: Afterlife will be his 4th RE film, but not a sequel. Instead the series will be revamped and start as a whole new trilogy. Afterlife will have a bigger budget than the previous films and will see the return of old characters and new ones. The film will also be joining that whole 3D fad that decided to rear its head up from the 70's.

"I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films, "he said. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."

Our guess is that Paul will take the Fast And Furious approach; by having a film that ignores previous events and rewrites the series history. This is good news for die hard Resident Evil fans. Maybe, just maybe we can have a RE film that doesn't stray so far from the source material. We're looking at you Extinction.
