Examiner writes: Included on the announcement page was five screenshots (click here to view). Just from those pics you can see what is possibly a new (or designed slightly different) mech, as well as what possibly looks to be the ability to play as a Marauder.

What did not come from the the official pages, is the words from an employee who confirms there will be achievements (and trophies if you are playing on a PS3). They are making sure this content will be well worth it, kudos to Volition/THQ for putting out a great game and supporting it. We better see it hit the top of the Xbox Live Activity charts when that DLC hits.

So waaaay back at the beginning of the preorder process for Red Faction, Best Buy had a preorder bonus for those that preordered their copy through them AND had a "Gamer's Club" membership. Well I just so happen to have done both of those things and just received my walker in the mail today. The action figure is made out of plastic, with a large amount of moving pistons and joints. The paint job is top-notch and it looks as if it has been through a lot on Mars. Pretty sweet thing for free, eh? Check out the full article for pictures.

In this news entry from the Red Faction Guerrilla Community Portal they go onto detail the demo prerequisites for the upcoming multiplatform Sci-Fi Third Person Shooter.

"Since early details have been spotted on the GameStop newsletter and website, we'll get more specific here and detail what will be included in the demo, as well as the proposed dates for access.

First and foremost, the demo will be available for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This demo will focus on a segment of the single-player campaign mode, allowing players to experience various weapons, vehicles, and combat styles before our upcoming release in June. If you would like to gain exclusive early access to the demo, walk into your local GameStop or EB Games and pre-order Red Faction: Guerrilla before April 23rd (or pre-order it online). Once you've pre-ordered, all you have to do is wait anxiously for April 3rd(unless you pre-ordered after that date) to roll around before you'll be able to access the demo and partake in some destruction-filled mayhem on Mars. Make sure you've cleared some space off your hard drive (I recommend 1 GB) for the demo beforehand.

Kotaku writes: "Nearly all of Volition's quality assurance department were laid off today in Champaign, Illinois, THQ confirmed to Kotaku.

"Today we notified 86 of the 102 employees in the Volition quality assurance department that they will be let go," a THQ spokesman told Kotaku. "Our quality assurance will now be primarily conducted through THQ's centralized QA facilities, with a small staff remaining on-site in Champaign.

In its second quarter fiscal 2009 financial report, publisher THQ today confirmed that it is in the process of shutting down five of its internal studios as part of a "significant business realignment." Approximately 250 people, or 17 percent of the company's product development personnel will be laid off as a result.

THQ also announced that both Red Faction: Guerrilla and Darksiders: Wrath of War have been pushed to the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010.

The press release for the Red Faction: Guerilla Collector's Edition doesn't mention any outlandish stunt-packaging so at least you won't have to try and fit a box shaped like a helmet or a colonist's femur or something onto your games shelf.
For around $89 you can pick up a copy of the game (Xbox or PS3), plus an 'art' coffee table book, bonus DVD (probably a 'making of' or something) and a 5-inch poly resin Mining Walker statuette with 'pewter hand railings' (er, cool?).
The Collector's Edition has a suggested retail price of $89.99, and can be pre-ordered now through GameStop retail stores and the company's official website.

Volition has told Dutch website Gaming Only that they will release a demo for Red Faction: Guerille. The demo will most likely appear in the beginning of January, a month before the release in February 2009.

Volition is also planning to release downloadbare content. The first multiplayer package will be released a month after the games release. 6 months later they will also release new single-player content.

The PS3-version of the game also supports Trophies.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a post E3 Red Faction: Guerrilla event in London, associate producer Ismael Vicens explained that developers should not be facing development difficulties when producing titles for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

"I'd say that each console while they have strengths and its weaknesses depending on what area, if you really are developing a game that can take advantage of multiple cores, if you design your systems in a fairly good manner, it shouldn't really present a problem," said Vicens.

He added: "I think that might have to do with the time frame in which they decide to go multi platform or tart involving multi platform. We knew early on that we were going to be multi platform and so we got a lot of tools in place that really assisted us in figuring out how to develop and hit targets on both platforms equally."

Speaking to VideoGamer.com Red Faction Guerrilla associate producer Ismael Vicens has revealed that the team at Volition (also working on Saints Row 2) isn't worried about the lack of a hard drive in every Xbox 360.

When asked if the hard drive as standard in every PS3 gives it an advantage over the 360 Vicens said:

"No. We designed our streaming system in such a manner that really we don't have to worry about that. I would say the lack of a hard drive isn't significantly hurting us in any real way. We'd already developed a streaming system that, like I said, you can destroy a building, come back 10 hours later and it's still destroyed in the same way. And there's no loads. Once you hit new game or load game the only time we load anything is like, load a cut scene or if you die or something like that. You don't really see load screens in our game. Lack of a hard drive I wouldn't say it's something that we're too concerned with."

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a post E3 Red Faction: Guerrilla event in London, associate producer Ismael Vicens has revealed that the developer has achieved its goal of making each version of the game functionally and visually identical. This has been achieved despite leading development on the Xbox 360.

"Initially development was led on the Xbox. At E3 we showed the PS3 build and to be honest if you didn't look at the controller that was in the hands of the person demoing it you would not be able to tell the difference. They're completely on parity with each other right now," said Vicens.

He continued: "Feature for feature they're identical. Visually they're pretty much identical. That's really what we're striving for, that you'll have an identical play experience on PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC version."

Gamedaily.biz writes: "Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian cautions that THQ's IP is a big risk, but he believes the publisher's management is taking the right approach to costs and product strategy.

Lazard Capital Markets recently hosted investor meetings with publisher THQ and apparently came away more optimistic about the company's long-term prospects. Analyst Colin Sebastian said that THQ management is "not standing still" and is "focused on improving execution."

"...we believe management is taking a number of steps to address recent product and financial underperformance," he said. "Improved control over the company's cost structure and better product management should generate more consistent performance, in our opinion."

The PS3 has the potential to achieve better graphics than the Xbox 360, a Volition developer has told VideoGamer.com.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at THQ's Gamers Day in San Francisco, California, this week, Jeff Carroll, associate producer in charge of multiplayer and PS3 on upcoming third-person action game Red Faction: Guerrilla, said that while developers will struggle with the PS3 at first, once they "figure it out" they will find "a very powerful system underneath".

THQ confirms fiscal 2009 video game line-up (News)

THQ has today unveiled the key titles that will form the publisher's fiscal 2009 video game line-up. Scheduled for release in the 12-month period ending March 31, 2009 are a range of new editions to existing franchises, new original games and social and party titles.

Gamers can look forward to new editions of multi-million unit franchises, including Saints Row 2, Red Faction: Geurrilla and WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. All new video game titles on the way include Darksiders: Wrath of War, Deadly Creatures and de Blob. Additionally THQ plans to release new social and party games for the Wii, including Battle of the Bands and Big Beach Sports.
