When asked about if he thought Prototype could stand up to the opposition he said:

"I think so. I think in terms of scale the world is going to be a big bigger [than GTA IV]. However, they'll have some weather systems that we won't have.

"However our world will change...

PS3 - Prototype - New Details Unveiled for Prototype: Mayhem Unleashed Gamedaily writes: "After working on The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction for Sierra Games, Vancouver, British Columbia-based developer Radical Games embarked on a project that was more multi-dimensional. They set about creating Prototype, the first open world action game that plays out like a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, according to Tim Bennison, executive producer of the project.

Bennison and lead designer Eric Holmes were on hand at GDC to talk about their new game and show some exclusive new levels behind closed doors at the St. Regis Hotel.

In Prototype, players assume the role of Alex Mercer, a shapeshifter in present-day New York City. The city's under siege by a mysterious outbreak that's spreading throughout Manhattan, creating a scenario for a three-way war among Alex, the Army and the infected monsters that come in 40 different shapes and sizes."

PS3 - Prototype - GameTap - GDC 08 Blog: Prototype Panel GameTap writes: Open-world games-the term that both lead designer Eric Holmes and executive producer Tim Bennison use to describe games such as Grand Theft Auto-are complex affairs. During this lecture about their thoughts and design goals for Prototype, they threw a lot of information at the audience: ranging from a comparison of gameplay models for other genres, to how the 1951 film The African Queen has a poignant quote about human behavior that helps shape the team's view on player behavior (when Bogart comments "A man takes a drop too much once in a while, it's only human nature").

While the panel didn't show anything really new (most of the gameplay footage and details are the same as what GameTap saw in our first preview), it was still fascinating to hear about some of the under-the-hood items that crossed the developers' mind.

Oct 10, 2007 Alex Mercer. An innocuous name if ever there was one. But, according to developer Radical Entertainment, when he makes his debut in Prototype next summer he's going to emerge from the shadows of obscurity as one of gaming's "darkest anti-heroes" and the "ultimate ass-kicking machine." We like him already. PS3 - Prototype - Sierra Press Release: Prototype not so Prototypical Sierra today announced that they are working on a new title for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC which they describe as a "new kind of open-world game, featuring a rich story line of conspiracy, deception and deadly shape shifting action."

The game is being developed by Radical Entertainment, the folks behind Crash of the Titans and Scarface, and tells the story Alex Mercer, a man haunted by his past, fighting a secret war in New York City. There's action, there's conspiracy, and there's that deadly shape-shifting action, which is auto-hot. Apparently this shape-shifting power will allow the lead character to morph into people he meets in the game and steal their skills or powers.

Full press release after the jump.
