Split-screen: "Radical Entertainment's built a solid reputation as a sandbox game developer emphasizing more on all-out fun and enjoyment than rote missions and repetition. Their latest title, Prototype, has proved that to a T and come out a great success, even against more hyped titles like inFamous and veteran franchises like Red Faction. It seems we haven't seen the last of our friendly neighbourhood sociopath Alex Mercer just yet."
OXM UK writes: "Sometimes, being a mutant does have its perks.
The NPD numbers show an interesting battle between two similar games: Prototype and inFamous.
Destructoid writes: Electronic Entertainment Design and Research has weighed in on the Prototype versus inFAMOUS debate with numbers. According to EEDAR estimates, Prototype is set to outsell inFAMOUS by a dazzling 90 percent when combining the sales of the multiplatform releases of Prototype. However, inFAMOUS is expected to sell between at least 35 to 50 percent more on the PlayStation 3 than Activision's title.

Is an additional co-op mode secretly being prepared for Activision's recent release of Prototype? The game certainly lends itself well to a co-op mode a la Crackdown. Msxbox-World explores the possibility.
PC gamers like open world action games just like their console counterparts and that's pretty clear in Steam's latest weekly sales report. The list shows the Radical Entertainment-Activision game Prototype zoom to the top of Steam's sales list (based on revenue for the past seven days and ending on Sunday morning).
Prototype is rendered at 1120 by 640 pixels, with QAA (quinux anti-aliasing) on the PS3 and 2xMSAA (multisample anti-aliasing) on the Xbox 360. The differences between these two solutions for video game "jaggies" are not terribly distinct, apart from a slight blur to the image with QAA; if sufficiently integrated into the game's art style this won't severely impact visual quality (such as is seen in Killzone 2.)
Gamer Limit writes: "This is a direct response to the hundreds of comments that IGN received recently due to their Prototype review. After giving it a 7.5, which is a respectable score by their own standards, IGN received a myriad of these types of choice words:
Did you just pick up the PS3 version of Prototype only to discover you can't, um, play it? You are not alone! If your PS3 tells you that you don't have enough hard disk space for the installation -- and you know that it's LYING to you -- then you'll have to use a workaround provided by Activision support.
PS3-Sense writes: "Today, the Trophylist of Prototype has revealed to the big public. The 7 secret Trophies on the list are not revealed. With the values of 20 bronze, 9 silver, 4 gold, 7 secret Trophies and 1 platinum Trophy. This game really sounds challenging!"

A "Top Secret" package with an X-ray image from Alex Mercer shows the unique ability of Prototype's lead character. Alex's unique composition allows him to shape-shift his arm into claws, blades, hammers and whips. An enclosed prescription slip in the package leads you to GameStop.com's Prototype page. There you'll find the pre-order bonus for Prototype: a Biohazard Tube Container which includes a Critical Hints Map.
This week's new releases (North America):
A user in the Gamespot forums has posted pictures of his copy of Prototype, saying that he got it early.
Highlights for the month of May 2009 include Red Faction Guerilla, Prototype, Tiger Woods 2010, Ghostbusters, Fight Night Round 4, and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.
ZKG writes "I have some bad news for those of you that were looking forward to playing a demo of Prototype before it came out. Woke up this morning to an email from a rep at Activision and they did indeed confirm for me that there will not be a demo released for either the PSN or Xbox Live before the game is released on June 9th."
