"While on the subway today reading the Toronto Metro newspaper I came across an EB Games full page ad for a pretty good PS3 deal in Effect from November 23 - December 13. If you purchase an 80GB PS3 ($399 + tax) they will also give you a free game out of a selection of five titles.

Normally when I hear an offer like this my internal gamer radar tells me the free game will either be something crappy, like oh say Kung-Fu Panda or a game like Uncharted that is really good, but so last year.

Amazingly enough, this deal has decided to be in defiance of gamer radar and is not entirely full of suck."

Users on the official EA Sports forum are reporting widespread disc read error issues with NHL 09 -- over time. Many users are reporting the popular hockey franchise works as advertised during the initial play through but eventually crashes after loading saved modes or regular games once the Xbox 360 reboots.

While EA has yet to release an official statement regarding the problem users have found success with two bandaid solutions -- which point to cache problems in the game. According to the EA Forum users clearing the cache of the Xbox 360 and disabling the auto-save feature in NHL 09 may help fix the problem but as gamers play more of the game the issue returns."

Consoleme.ca writes: Yesterday I was lucky enough to score an invitation to Electronic Arts' NHL 2009 launch event in Vancouver, Canada. For anyone that doesn't know, the latest installment in the successful NHL franchise from EA was released to the public on Tuesday and is already garnering rave reviews from the interwebs. Having had a chance to play it first hand and having lots of experience playing previous iterations of the game I can safely say that this is probably the best hockey game to ever be released. As an avid hockey fan it is impossible to understate how great the game looks, plays and feels. But you don't have to take my word for it, there were lots of real life hockey players in attendance who were blown away by how realistic the game is.

Despite a legacy stretching as far back as FIFA, they completely offed their tried and tested control scheme last year, replacing it with a radical twin-stick method that played smoothly, despite making it a bit difficult to score... at least at first. ...

The next version of the hockey game from Electronic Arts Vancouver, NHL 09, will celebrate the 100 years of the Montreal Canadiens with a dream team composed of 21 best players in its history. And of course, few of them won't use helmets.

The producer of the game, David Littman, said that this dream team is gonna be the best training team in the game; only stars-teams can hope to compete a bit.
