Sony has delayed its flagship dragon flight game Lair three weeks, hot on the heels of Electronic Gaming Monthly's shock 6/10 review. According SCEA the dodgy review has nothing to do with the slip though, instead SCEA producer Ryan Hamlyn says it's "an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game." Army of Two lead designer Chris Ferriera says that as much as EA Montreal would love to do a demo, they sort of need to concentrate on the game instead.

Asked when we might see one, he told Eurogamer: "Not prior to release. I don't know if there'll be something later, but the thing is given our release date [15th November for PS3 and Xbox 360 in the US and Europe] and where we're at, we'd rather focus on this rather than taking engineers off and having them do a demo."

Electronic Arts is still a staunch supporter of PlayStation 3, but the firm said Wednesday that slow sales of the console are a prime reason for shrinking operating margins.

"Point blank, this cycle is developing quite differently than the last cycle. The next-gen hardware build is going a little more slowly." He said that last cycle, EA was on PS2 in a "gigantic way," and of course that platform ended up leading the market.

"This time, there's been some unexpected strength with the Wii and the PS3 hasn't--yet--performed as well as we expected it to. That probably has a bigger impact than any other factor on our margins."

Following the early tips of delays from GameStop and EBgames, Ryan Hamlyn the associate producer of SCEA has officially confirmed the delay in Playstation Blog:

"Wow, even I didn't see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features - such as leaderboards and medal systems - have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone's excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4."
