Following the departure of Phil Harrison, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has named a new president of SCE Worldwide Studios.

Shuhei Yoshida will become the president of SCE WWS beginning May 16, marking what may be the beginning of a new era for PlayStation's software division.

PS3 - PlayStation 3 - Sony losing $260 per PS3?

While Sony's recently-announced financial results showed that the company reduced its PlayStation division losses by over 100 billion yen last fiscal year, a factor it attributed largely to falling PS3 production costs, Jack Schofield at the Guardian speculates that the platform holder may be losing double the $130 per console shipped that its internal figures suggest.

PS3 - PlayStation 3 - EA's PS3 software sales up 192%

For Electronic Arts, PlayStation 3 software led the way in terms of net revenue growth during the company's fiscal Q4.

On a GAAP basis, EA's PS3 software net revenues were $152 million, a year-on-year increase of 192 percent during the quarter ended March 31, the firm said in its earnings report. Xbox 360 software sales grew 56 percent, reaching $128 million, while lower-priced Wii software grew 108 percent to $75 million.

PS3 - PlayStation 3 - New PS3 firmware - but no XMB update

Your PS3 will update itself to firmware version 2.35 today, but it's nothing to get mega-excited about.

Sony tells us it's a minor update that will do nothing more than "improve stability of some PS3 titles".

Still no in-game XMB, although SCEE big man Ray Maguire said back in March that the much-anticipated feature is being worked on for a 2.4 update in "summer".
