Riiiight. A zombie apocalypse, you say? Uh, huh. And something that looks like the by-product of a steamy one nighter between the Michelin Man and The Thing. What’s that? A man with a surgically grafted minigun for an arm? Okie dokie. And this is what game again? Ah, the fifth Yakuza title. You mean that gritty, grounded crime series about the Japanese mob? Gotcha. Wait, what? Yup, seems like Kazuma Kiryu’s games have finally lost their shit in the most spectacular, shark-jumping fashion imaginable.
Chiaki Kuriyama, the actress who played Gogo Yubari, the psycho schoolgirl in Kill Bill, will be starring in the new Yakuza title. She will be playing the role of Asagi, a member of the Self-Defense Forces. The news was recently revealed on the official Ryu ga Gotoku blog along with additional voice actor reveals, screenshots, a confirmation of the game’s official title, Yakuza: To the End, and a video featuring the finalists in Sega’s contest for the new hostesses who will be appearing in the game...
Just how accurate is the depiction of the yakuza organized crime syndicate in Yakuza 3? Pretty damn accurate, according to actual members of the Japanese crime group. Jake Adelstein spent 12 years as a crime reporter in Japan and was able to infiltrate an actual yakuza hangout. And just out of curiosity, he got three of the members to test out Yakuza 3 and solicit their feedback.
Yakuza 4 will be hitting the West in the spring, exclusively on PlayStation 3. It fits in with the usual 'we get it but a year late' system, but it's still a nice surprise, given its translation was by no means a certainty. Head inside for new screens.
Sega has unveiled a whole bunch of release dates for its upcoming line-up, including Sonic Unleashed, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Space Siege.
The, dare we say, promising-looking Sonic Unleashed has been given a strong November date, while Aliens FPS Colonial Marines has unfortunately slipped into 2009. Golden Axe: Beast Rider, if anyone cares, hits shelves in September.
