Gaming is an up and down experience. Some years cram top quality titles into our every orifice until were bursting with videogame joy and have excess polygons dripping messily out of our ears, while some other years… Well, some other years are 1983.

Infinity Ward is making several changes to Call of Duty 4 multiplayer in an update this month that'll be applied to both Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
Scanning down the list of updates it's clear that the majority of changes concern new maps being added to playlist rotations for multiplayer game modes - Team Deathmatch, Sabotage, Free-For-All etc, etc.
The developer's also bumping up the number of spawn start locations in all multiplayer maps and optimising Sniper Rifle/ACOG Scope

EA has confirmed that the Command & Conquer series is merging with the first-person shooter genre in a new title called Tiberium.
The publisher was short on details, but it did tell us that the game is penciled in for a late 2008 release. Official images aren't expected until early next year, but there are scans already doing the round as additional details have appeared in Game Informer magazine.
The game will be a squad-based shooter set 11 years on from the third Tiberium

Speculation that Call of Duty will return to WWII in CoD 5 is circulating the internet on the count of a job advertisement.
Treyarch, which is behind a number of games in the first-person shooter series, is advertising for a Call of Duty level designer and this particular part of the job description has leapt off the web page:

Crytek's CryEngine 2 - which powers a little game known as Crysis - is to form the beating heart of Korean MMO The Day.
The Day is some way off - it's targeted for release in 2010 - but first info reveals it's a third-person action MMO for PC. Knowing that, it's not surprising that PvP will be a major focus of the title.

Activision has mentioned Call of Duty 5 and Guitar Hero IV as games in the "Pipeline" in a fact sheet on the new Activision Blizzard website.
"Pipeline includes: Guitar Hero IV, Call of Duty 5, James Bond, new Tony Hawk, new DreamWorks titles, new Marvel titles and entry into racing with Bizarre", it says.

The industry is still shaking from the earthquake announcement of Vivendi and Activision's merger today, but gamers themselves are going to have a lot of questions too. Both companies hold their fair share of much-loved franchises, several of which have extremely radid fanbases, so worry is going to be high as to what the deal is really going to mean.

Bizarre Creations' The Club has been given a firm release date of February 8, 2008, on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
