PS3 - MotorStorm - Developers are playing waiting game with PS3, says GDC organiser GDC boss Jamil Moledina has told GamesIndustry.biz that many studios are holding back on starting PlayStation 3 projects due to the challenges of developing for Sony's new console.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Moledina said, "It's a relatively complex platform to develop for, considering it has a very unique multi-core processor with the Cell. A lot of developers are new to figuring out how to work with that structure, as well as the RSX, the graphics processor.

"A lot of the developers I know are waiting out on the first round and focusing on handhelds; they're creating DS and PSP titles because that's actually a much simpler migration from the current-gen," he continued.

"It's always a challenge for developers to dedicate resources to next-generation titles like this - consider the cost, resources, and time it takes to make these games."

But according to Moledina, things will change as third-party developers get more support from the platform holder. "A lot of Sony's effort has been focused on helping first party understand how to develop games for it," he stated.

"I think you're going to see that knowledge shared more robustly now that those first-party titles are in the can, as it were, or close to being complete."

Moledina said he is confident that the PlayStation 3 will be a success, despite the fact that, "A lot of the games that I really wanted to play aren't launching right now, like Heavenly Sword, Lair, MotorStorm... It reminds me very much of the original PlayStation 2 launch, where there were a hatful of pretty good titles.

"I've had a chance to play around with the PlayStation store, that looks pretty cool too. I think it's going to build up very nicely. So I'm generally optimistic about the platform's prospects," he concluded.

Moledina is currently busy organising GDC 2007, which will take place in San...

This batch of new images for MotorStorm, Evolution Studios' mud-tastic racer and one of PS3's brightest and nicest looking games, is a neat close-up look at several of the dirt-splattered vehicles you'll be tearing around in this holiday season. Plus, just for good measure, a nice image of a guy flipping himself off a cliff. Hit the Images tab to see 'em all ... » Read More

PS3 - MotorStorm - Final PS3 13 launch games list for America Sony's PlayStation 3 is set to arrive this week on November 17th. With just 400,000 units available at launch in the USA, and an unknown number of game consoles arriving the rest of year. The total is expected to be below 1 million units in 2006, as a result many publishers have decided to delay their games so more time can be spent polishing them.

From minor delays like Need for Speed: Carbon being delayed until November 20. To big launch lineup losses like MotorStorm which was delayed to March, 2007. The PS3 launch will now have 13 titles including Resistance: Fall of Man and Ridge Racer 7.

PS3 - MotorStorm - MotorStorm, Lair, HS in 2007 A pamphlet included in the US retail PlayStation 3 hardware bundle has shed some light on the release dates for a few of the next-gen system's upcoming exclusives.

According to IGN, the pamphlet reveals that despite MotorStorm enjoying a December release in Japan, where the PS3 goes on sale today, it won't be released in the US until February.

Meanwhile, Factor 5's dragon-'em-up Lair (which smacks a bit of Dynasty Warriors in our early build) is down as March, along with Heavenly Sword from UK-based Ninja Theory.

The good news, we suppose, being that those games could all wind up as European launch titles - if they stick to the proposed dates. Ha.

PS3 - MotorStorm - PlayStation 3 Kiosks Hits Toys Destructoid's Robert Summa, surely en route to scope out Tickle Me Extreme Elmo's to shill on eBay this holiday season, got some footage and photo snaps of the freshly installed PlayStation 3 kiosk at the flagship Toys "R" Us in Times Square. The video shows that the kiosks are equipped with (at the very least) a Motorstorm demo, but not all are currently operational.

PS3 - MotorStorm - PSM3 PS3 - From PSM3: "Ridge Racer is a pleasant surprise. It's slick and slippery like a greased-up seal and the bright, chunky arcade visuals look stunning in HD. When it first arrived we almost flipped a lid ¿ the menu was full of options! Woo! But, typically, you can only select one game mode (arcade) and one track (a jungle thing with lovely misty waterfalls). But what a track it is, with a shockingly-beautiful section going through a damp cave. The reflections are so good, you can almost see your own face in the puddles.

Resistance is punishingly difficult, but we like a challenge and the balls-out action and gorgeous set-pieces make it feel like a kind of sci-fi Call of Duty. The first level takes place in York town centre, leading eventually to a leafy area of Nottingham. We've always wondered what alien-besieged middle England would look like, and now we know ¿ messy, covered in rubble and dotted with explosive barrels.

Lair plays a lot like ancient fantasy shooter Panzer Dragoon, but with tilt-sensitive controls. You have to jolt the pad towards enemies to attack them which is strange, but overall we're impressed. The dragons look magnificent. But, if we're honest, it's more of a graphics demo than an actual game at the moment. The lightweight tutorial involves barely any play and you spend most of your time floating about admiring the lighting effects, shadows and realistic-looking rocks.

Having played the original Genji a Hell of a lot, we felt instantly at home with Genji 2. Remarkably, despite the 'giant crab' horrors of E3, it's actually really fun to play. Amazing, fluid animation and a trio of varied characters you can switch to at any point during the level. Briliantly, THAT giant crab is in the demo we have, although we couldn't figure out how to flip it over for massive damage. Dang.

But our favourite is MotorStorm. We've had three versions of the demo and every time it gets better. The latest is a...

PS3 - MotorStorm - Price explains Resistance online Despite being one of the best-looking titles for the PlayStation 3 at launch (unless you're Ridge Racer 7 fetishist Tom, it's between this and MotorStorm really), Insomniac Games' Resistance: Fall of Man will not be integrated with the console's online functionality, specifically the built-in buddy list - instead, it will use its own buddy list, clan management system, and so on.

That's according to Insomniac boss Ted Price, who was speaking to Eurogamer's Rob Fahey earlier this week in an interview for the ThreeSpeech blog. While the decision to make the game run its own buddy list and so on is a blow to Sony's claims of an integrated online service - and in fact, it harks back to the bad old days of the PS2 online system - Price apparently left the door open for the possibility that the two systems could be reconciled in future, saying that "it is definitely possible to update the game via online."

At least the news about the rest of the game's online functions is more positive. According to Price, the game supports four player split screen, and up to 40 players online - with games being hosted on Sony's own servers for low-latency play.

PS3 - MotorStorm - 31 Ways The PS3 Will Change Your Life CVG have come up with 31 different ways that the PS3 can rule the gaming universe. Can you think of any more?

1) RECORD LIVE TV
You can use the PS3's hard drive to record live TV. With any luck, we'll be able to record whole series with the flick of an analogue stick. And adverts will go the way of the diplodocus, too.

2) PUT YOURSELF IN THE GAME
With camera game EyeDentify on the way, we know that getting your image into games is going to be a big part of PS3 play. But we've only scratched the surface. How about an online avatar with your face, that updates in realtime from Eyetoy? The possibilities are endless.

3) STOP SHARING THAT TINY SCREEN
Muddy split-screen modes with hazy horizons and perpetual pop-up are a thing of the past with PS3. With two high definition TV outputs, you can each have your own massive, incredibly detailed screen. This is going to be just awesome for shooters - no more peeking at your mate's half of the screen to see where he's lurking.

4) CONNECT TO PSP
With a PSP in your pocket, you'll be able to talk to PS3 in so many ways. Whether it's using PSP to control PS3 games, uncovering new modes with some kind of as-yet-unimagined dual-screen crossover, or swapping saves and custom levels, it's all as simple and easy as pressing the X button.

5) CREATE YOUR OWN SUPER COMPUTER
Stick two or more PS3s in the same room and link them up through one of the fat Ethernet ports at the back. They'll talk to each other instantly and combine their power to make amazing game experiences. So why not buy two PS3s? Or more...

6) BREAK IT APART
If you want to show off that custom level you just created, simply unclip the hard drive from the side of the PS3 and take it round to a fellow gamer's place. Plug it in, and presto! You've got gigabytes of characters, levels, mods and custom items to share.

7) DEFEAT THE HELGHAST
If th...

PS3 - MotorStorm - PS3 meets PSM3 - The Aftermath From psm3mag.com: "We played MotorStorm and Resistance. While this isn't the time to start writing a review of both games we will say that both were VERY impressive. Pretty much the whole building crammed into the games room here to see and play - and that's a lot of people from a lot of 'rival' games mags. Yes, the Xbox mag guys did take the piss and think it looked rubbish. But what else are they going to do? Fact is it's too early to successfully draw any 'better than 360' conclusions here. However Resistance looked like a great 360 game while MotorStorm had a certain 'PS3 magic' about it. We're talking texture detail, draw distance and realistic lighting rather than 'gameplay' or 'course design' here. We'll leave the proper review until we've played the finished game for longer than a couple of hours, thanks. That said, within thirty seconds you can 'see the PlayStation 3 difference' in this game.

Are we Sony fanboys? Well, we produce a mag all about PlayStation so you can draw your own conclusions. Are we paid by Sony to say good things? No way. I think that Sony's request to remove our video of PS3 starting up is proof of our unofficial status (and I suspect we're very naughty boys at Sony HQ right now). Do we hate 360 and Wii? No, we own 360s and will definitely be buying Wiis this Christmas. That said we'll DEFINITELY be buying PS3 in March."

PS3 - MotorStorm - MotorStorm revs up its engine for official details Set in the fictional desert environment of Monument Valley, with scenic views of harrowing cliff edges, wide-open plains and tight canyon sections, vehicles such as ATVs and bikes take center stage in combat-like racing. The goal is not only to win, but also to reach the end line alive as these vehicles are weapons of destruction.

Take your shot at being the champion in the MotorStorm Festival, but be warned that you will be racing with other players and A.I. that are witty enough to analyze the race and react in the most realistic manner possible. The A.I. will try to win the competition at all costs by locating the best routes and changing the level of driving aggression based on player actions.

Evolution Studios also takes pride in the fact that no two tracks are alike as each vehicle will carve up the track in varying depths. That means the tracks are deformable and they will never be the same after each lapse. The game will also feature cinematic effects such as motion blur and a replay of crash sequences thru the game's Hollywood-style "crash cams".

PS3 - MotorStorm - Heavenly Sword First Impressions When the Xbox 360 launched last Christmas, it was widely remarked upon that many of the console's early portfolio of titles were developed in the UK - with games from Bizarre Creations and Rare forming the backbone of the launch line-up for the system. With the PlayStation 3, once again, British developers are punching above their weight - and of the key first-party titles given top billing on Sony's stand at TGS, no less than three hail from the sceptered isle. Two are racing games - the genuinely head-turning MotorStorm and the nice-if-you-like-that-sort-of-thing F1 - while the third is developer Ninja Theory's graphically stunning slash-'em-up, Heavenly Sword.
