PS3 Preview | Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - Metal Gear Solid 4: updated impressions Last night, we were privileged to watch as Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima took the stage at a Konami press conference in San Francisco, sat in front of a giant screen and played through the early parts of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Privileged partly because it was the man himself, but mostly because he unveiled a few cool things that we hadn't yet seen, like a gun that summons tornadoes and a remarkably non-sucky piece of ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots  With so much we can’t share - like the string of set-pieces in [deleted], which are even better than the ending of MGS3 Snake Eater - let’s talk about what MGS4 isn’t: an unrecognisable departure. Strip away the gloss, the mythology of the trailers, the gravity of Snake’s predicament, and the core experience is classic Metal Gear - a fusion of MGS3’s advanced mechanics and MGS2’s cutscene, ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Dec 20, 2007 While going through our latest ultra-thorough hands-on with MGS4, we took some meticulous notes to satisfy your cravings for anything and everything that makes Hideo Kojimas labor of love an all-new, polished experience. First off, theres MGS4s opening movie, which will be produced by US design house LOGAN - the agency responsible for the iconic iPod silhouette ads. “Preparation took one-and-a-half years,” reveals Kojima. “We spent a week in Hollywood working on ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Dec 19, 2007 MGS4 feels different - and not just as a result of ‘wave form play, but more on that later. It isnt unrecognizable or broken but neither is it sublime, or intuitive. The buttons are sort of the same, but sufficiently different to feel dislocating. Old flaws - like collision detection and camera wobble when crawling through tight gaps - remain, as do old thrills - like cruelly toying with guards using your variety of skills and weapons. We spent our first hour cursing the ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Sept 26, 2007 Solid Snakes always been a badass, but as recent outings for oldies like Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone have showed, all that muscle can get a little… droopy. Snakes back, but hes ‘back from the retirement home, trading in his bus pass for a few new guns, a camo suit and that bloody irritating codec once more. Can he still cut it with the young bucks, or is this one fight too many for the old ticker? First, the history. From Metal Gear 2 on the MSX, the series ... » Read More

Hideo Kojima said he would show Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots gameplay soon - and he was true to his word. At Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Premiere press conference in Tokyo today, he gave a 20-minute gameplay demonstration of the title. And yes, as if you had to ask - it looks great. First things first - it still looks like a Metal Gear Solid game. The weapon and item inventories are present on the sides of the screen as before, and the main view is a third-person, ... » Read More

PS3 Preview | Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Given the reaction from fans, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots might as well have been subtitled OMG Snake is Totally Old. Although we've only seen the trailer so far, Solid Snake's grizzled appearance is already drawing murmurs from the peanut gallery. But while he's become the butt of innumerable Viagra jokes, Snake won't be softening with age. Set some years after Metal Gear Solid 2, his next adventure will take him out of the jungles and corridors he's used to, dropping him into ... » Read More
