Next-Gen.Biz writes: "Metal Gear Solid 4 has continued its impressive sales run by entering the Australian software chart at No1.

The PS3 exclusive title, which also scooped the top spot in the UK and Japan during its first week on the market, debuted at No1 in Australia for the week ended June 15.

Nintendo's Wii Play was a non-mover at No2, followed by Mario Kart Wii, Lego Indiana Jones and Wii Fit.

Xbox 360 exclusive Ninja Gaiden II was a new entry at No6, while the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV stuck at No7."

Japanese sales figures for the week ending June 15, reported by Media Create, put Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 as the runaway leader of the pack, outselling its nearest rival by a margin of 12-to-1.

465,000 units of the PS3 exclusive were sold, compared to only 38,000 units of Mario Kart Wii. So dominant was MGS4 that it outsold the rest of the Top 10 combined (216,000) by 249,000 units.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Database to be released tomorrow on PSN:

For those of you who simply can't get enough of everything MGS, there's surprise for everyone tomorrow on PSN -- an official Metal Gear Solid 4 Database. The Database is a "free, downloadable interactive application that contains the official knowledge base of everything that is Metal Gear, reaching all the way back to the very beginning of the franchise." In other words, all the MGS lore you could ever want in one free official package.

In consideration of those of us who haven't finished MGS4 yet, there is a feature that eliminates any and all MGS4 information for a spoiler-free experience. They also added a camouflage and a new music for the in-game iPod under EXTRAS of the main menu for immediate download. It looks like Konami has a lot of MGS4 DLC up their sleeves, we can't wait!

Editor's Note:

The Japanese version of the MGS4 Database is up at the Japanese PSN!!

After installation it is not found under Extras in the game menu but rather a separate DLC game. The Japanese download has the option of Japanese, English, French, Dutch, Italian and Spanish. It does indeed asks you if you want to use your save file to unlock any spoilers. Spoilers are locked by default and you need a save of the cleared game to unlock it. There's also a menu for "Briefing" which is for people who have already beat the game, so maybe you get an extra Mission Briefing.

Log on to the Japanese PSN if you want this MGS Encyclopedia one day early!

The 40GB Limited Edition Metal Gear Solid 4 PLAYSTATION 3 bundle ($599) is still currently available, as of 6/18/08, on Konami.com. It's actually been the PLAYSTATION 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle (MSRP $499) that's tougher to find right now. Most retailers seem to be sold out online and at storefronts.
One place they have been spotted is somewhere you may not have thought of checking out: Blockbuster.

NeoGAF: Enterbrain numbers for June 12 to June 15 (4 days): 476,334

That number includes the regular edition, special edition, premium pack and the welcome box bundles. It is now the best selling PS3 game in Japan.

For reference, the first day numbers from Enterbrain not counting bundles was 300k (170k SE, 130k Regular). PS3 hardware for the week is 77,208 (Enterbrain numbers from the article as well).

For comparison, here are the first week figures for the MGS series in Japan, Enterbrain numbers:

Joystiq writes: "We've received numerous "tips" concerning the Metal Gear Solid 4 80GB PlayStation3 bundle and just how darned scarce it's become in the wilds of retail. We checked with Sony to find out when more shipments of the "limited-edition" bundle will be sneaking back into North America.

Sony tells us that it's pleased with the strong interest in the bundle (system seller confirmed!) and is "working to ensure that additional shipments are provided to retailers." Chart Track reports that MGS4 has become the second fastest-selling PS3 game in the UK, behind GTA 4. It narrowly squeezed into second place, beating the launch of GT5: Prologue by 2,000 units.

The game beat MGS3's first week sales by 24,000 units, but is 14,000 behind the launch week of MGS2.

VGChartz.com, reports that the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, combined with the $100 Playstation 3 giftcard offer at Walmart stores across the US, resulted in a 180% increase of Playstation 3 hardware sales in America this week. Metal Gear Solid 4 bundles sold out at most major retailers across the US with no confirmation of further shipments so far.

According to our data provided by retailers all over the world, Playstation 3 week to week sales are likely to more than double from last week on a worldwide basis.

Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest instalment of Hideo Kojimas famous Metal Gear Solid series, saw sales of 300,000 units in Japan on day one. Worldwide, first day sales are estimated to stand at roughly 1.5 million units, including bundles.

Here is a look at the Gun Metal PS3 Limited Edition Un-boxed up Close & Personal. It arrived today, and I -(as in Crazyglues from NG4.com) tried to take some really up close and clear Pictures to give people a better look at it.

From what I can tell it is in no-way shape or form Metal of any type. In-stead it seems to be a normal 40gig sprayed Gray. does not weigh more and feels in no way any different from a black PS3's plastic.

(Of Course this is my own personal opinion but hopefully the Pictures help you to judge for your self.)
