Kotaku: Konami has launched a "Metal Gear Solid 4 Beginner Site" to help those Japanese gamers not familiar with MGS to become, well, familiar with MGS. The game initially did very well when it was launched in Japan last June, but hasn't hit anywhere near the million seller mark. Though! The game is the biggest selling PS3 title in Japan, and for that, Konami should be proud. Heck, Konami even puts that on the MGS4 beginner site.

While this MGS4-for-dummies site might be a little late, it's actually a pretty neat thing to click around. The above image is from the "What's Metal Gear Solid 4?" page. There are clones, PMC and girls, girls, girls. (Mmmm... Old dudes!) Below that, is a nice summary of the game system. Bungie's Halo 3 took top Game of the Year honors during the G-Phoria awards last night, broadcast by game-oriented cable television network G4.

Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle ranked as the No. 1 best-selling product at Amazon.com on Mon. on increased demand for the SKU.
On Tues., the MGS4 PS3 80GB bundle ranked as the No. 1 item in Amazon's Video Games division, holding a 100 percent increase in sales.

The product previously held a No. 2 sales position the day prior. It recently held at No. 3 for one week.

The MGS4 PS3 80GB SKU includes a copy of the Metal Gear Solid 4 game and a Dualshock 3 controller for $499.99.

Additionally, the bundle has sold out at Walmart.com and Bestbuy.com on high demand.

Sony this month recorded a Q1 profit of $50.5 million (5.4 billion yen) profit in its game division compared to a loss of $273.3 million (29.2 billion yen) one year prior.

Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 SKU held in the top five sales at Amazon.com this week following steady availability for the in-demand product.

The MGS4 PS3 80GB SKU ranked at No. 3 on Tues. It held at a No. 3 rank last week.

The Konami stealth game was originally released for ¥8,800 (US$82), making it one of the pricier PS3 titles. (Expensive third party PS3 titles tend to book for around ¥7,800 or $72.) Here, what seem to be new copies of MGS4 are going for ¥3,980 ($37). We're not sure if this is an isolated Sofmap store or if other shops in the Sofmap chain are picking up on this price slashing or if this is just a Sofmap summer sale thingy. The News Tribune writes: "An Army captain who recently served as an intelligence liaison to the Japanese military has been charged with conspiring to ship holographic, night-vision-compatible firearm sights to Japan.

In a two-paragraph charging document filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle, prosecutors wrote that Tomoaki Iishiba bought 60 of the EoTech 553 sights from a Northbrook, Ill., company called OpticsPlanet, then mailed them to coconspirators in Japan without obtaining an export license. The company's Web site lists the sights at $639 apiece.

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH announces Metal Gear Online World Championship 2008!

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced the first details of its Metal Gear Online World Championship 2008 tournament, which will embark on regional heats in the summer globally with the grand final taking place at October's Tokyo Game Show event.

The competition is open to the best Metal Gear Online players from Europe, the US, Japan, and Greater Asia, with the individual territories to host regional championships where the wining teams will receive all-expenses-paid trips to Japan. The first championship will take place in the US at ComiCon in San Diego, with full details of the European heats to be announced via www.konami-mgo.com in the coming weeks.
