This week's top rental charts from U.S. game rental company GameFly, representing the most requested games for the week ending September 7th, highlight both to-be-released and already released games in a unique demand-specific chart.

This week sees the overall charts dominated entirely by Xbox 360 titles, with Midway's Stranglehold, formerly in the second position for two straight weeks, rising to the top spot, displacing BioShock to the fourth position. EA's Medal of Honor: Airborne moves up one slot to second place, and Halo 3 slides from fifth to third, making room for Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in spot five.
In adding his two cents to the videogame-violence debate, scientist Christoph Klimmt once said that "not everyone who plays a 'killer' game would be able to stand the stress of a real murder." We'd take it one step further and say that violent games don't even prepare would-be murderers for the stress of a real gun. It's something we found out firsthand when we sent two of our editors - one of whom had never shot a real gun despite being American, and one whose dad kept a "shootin' car" in the ...
If you've ever played a World War II-themed shooter in your life, then you already have a basic idea of what to expect from the multiplayer action in Medal of Honor: Airborne. Playing as either an Allied or Axis soldier, you'll skulk through war-torn cities and villages, battling the other team through streets and the ruins of shelled houses for kills and/or control points.

It looks awesome and plays great, but there's not a lot here you haven't seen already - just keep your head down, shoot ...
We've been invited to check out Medal of Honor: Airborne time and time again. This latest visit, though, put us in touch with a brand new level that really showcased what separates the game from its competition. Based on an actual German construction, the Flaktürme, or Flak Tower - a massive gun-emplaced tower designed to defend against air strikes on key cities.

Where does this leave you? Parachuting down, of course, past a massive concrete tower that's crawling with Nazi soldiers (of ...

Earlier this week, EA confirmed that Medal of Honor Airborne for PS3 would be arriving in November this year, as opposed to the August 28 release date for the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

Executive producer Patrick Gilmore told Next-Gen in a phone interview today that the Airborne team had received PS3 dev kits "a little bit later" than Xbox 360 and PC, and those two SKUs have "always" been ahead of the PS3 version.

He said that the PS3 version is "looking good," but added, "We want to release on PS3 when we can deliver a much more polished and complete experience." Gilmore wants to make sure that Sixaxis functionality with the PS3 version is up to par, and said he doesn't want to "shortchange" PS3 owners.
Anyone who has been following Medal of Honor: Airborne will be well aware that a major gameplay feature in the WWII FPS sequel is "go anywhere," i.e. the ability to parachute into any part of a level and begin the fight against the Nazi war machine from there.

A new trailer released focuses on that feature, using the D-Day attack on Utah beach as an example of the game's open battlefields that allow players to choose where to initiate their assault from.

A heavily defended German beach ...
The view from above always makes the most sense. With Medal of Honor: Airborne, industry veteran Patrick Gilmore has looked back over years of virtual war to figure out how, in this golden age of AI and physics, EAs troubled series can reinvent itself. He could be the ideal candidate for the job. Hes associated as much with Disney as D-Day, having produced over a dozen games starring Mickey and co, he brings a fresh perspective to a series thats long been considered stale. And despite Airbornes ...
Will Medal of Honor: Airborne see EA's former golden boy of the WWII FPS scene reclaim the throne? Well, we'll have to wait until the end of August when the game releases - on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 - to find out. In the meantime, 25 new screenshots - we know, some of them look the same - from the shooter have leapt from a C-47 and parachuted into GamesRadar offices.

Airborne shoves you into the boots of Boyd Travers, a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, and finds you battling the German ...
Thursday 31 May 2007
EA has just released a load of new screenshots from Medal Of Honor Airborne, their this-gen version of the World War 2 shooter that has players parachuting into warzones. Check them out here.

It's been a while since we've seen anything of the game and we're not entirely sure what to make of them - is it just us or do they have some decidedly low-res textures going ...
The parachuting only lasts a few seconds. The impact lasts the entire game.

Don't get us wrong - those fleeting moments of freefall are pure exhilaration. Surging forward in a crowd of equally frightened soldiers, you hardly have time to register the wide open hatch in front of you - the black starry precipice - before you've been pushed over the edge and into the nothingness. As the chute jerks back and your legs dangle in front of you, the entire mission is revealed on the ground ...
What makes Medal of Honor: Airborne different from the rest of the FPS crowd is, well you know, the air drops. Each mission begins with an "In the Plane" sequence that ends with you getting out of the plane from several thousand feet in the air. Once you're out of the plane, there is no loading time or sequenced mission objectives (even saving the game is seamless), and it's up to you where to land.

We have a new trailer today that shows off some of the combat and a bit of a drop sequence, and ...
EA's Medal of Honor: Airborne has suffered a few delays but eyes are now turning to late August 2007 for its release.

E-tailer GameStop is saying the WWII first-person shooter will release in North America on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 28.

EA's Medal of Honor series has been trumped by Call of Duty of course, but Airborne could be the game that finds it reclaiming its throne. Much is being made of the sandbox-style gameplay in the title, a key feature the ability to parachute into the ...
Explosions that rumble like the bowels of the devil himself, blasts that catapult Nazi rag dolls in Fosbury Flops, tracer, searchlights, burning Dakotas and screaming Yanks.
A selection of Medal of Honor: Airborne shots have dropped into our laps and give us a further glimpse at some of the night jumps that will appear in the upcoming World War II first-person shooter.

This is a shot to showcase the level of detail you can expect from the characters in MoHA. This shot is made from game assets ¿ it's game geometry and game-resolution textures. It's also about as clean as a character shot gets ¿ no blooms, no environment effects, no hiding in shadows, and no fake environment pasted in behind him.
