MAGblog writes: As we announced last week, we have extended our MAG beta program beyond its original November 20 stop date. What we didn't tell you, though, is what that means for you and the other testers who are involved in the program – so here's everything you need to know about the next phase.

First things first: As of this morning, we've updated the MAG beta to version 1.46. This upgrade brings a number of new things to the table, including:

* Our highly-anticipated 256-player Domination mode in addition to 64-player Sabotage.
* Reductions in the beta download sizes by more than 30%!
* Extensive tuning to the weapons for all three PMCs to better balance the factions.
* An updated experience curve for leveling that helps new and inexperienced players.
* A huge number of updates, revisions and fixes that reflect the feedback given to us by testers in previous betas

Another important bit of information to note is when the MAG Beta program will end – which will be at the strike of Midnight (Pacific Time) on December 5.
If you *haven't* been paying attention, or were maybe only in an earlier version of the Beta, you might wanna know what's been going on with the game. Yes, shooter fans, as clichéd as it may sound, because of your overwhelming requests to extend our beta period, we've gone ahead and done it. Originally scheduled to end on November 20, the MAG Beta 4 program will continue on through the weekend and into early next week.

But that's not all - I'm also pleased to announce that I'll be back next week with details about how all of your favorite gaming outlets will be running promotions to get you into our next beta (you didn't really think we were done did you?)! And trust me when I say, you'll definitely want to check back to find out how to get involved on both the PlayStation Blog and the Official MAG Blog. Oh, and for Facebook users who are fans of our games, drop by the new Zipper Interactive fan page, which just went live today.

Because of Infinity Ward's decision, PC gamers have launched a petition that over 100,000 people have signed. And although the studio gave a response, it seems there's no turn of heart from Robert and the gang. Should they change their minds and stick with the servers? Certainly you can't just give millions of PC owners your back.

Zipper interactive sees it differently, and speaking to DigitalFoundry, Zipper said it does a whole lot more good than bad to use dedicated servers.

NextGN: "Technically, the game feels like what you would expect from the Beta. My biggest gripe was the grenade physics, they feel clunky and their bounce effects are very strange, but aside from that, the controls feel incredibly intuitive and smooth, even though the weapons feel somewhat light. Keeping in mind this is only a Beta, I can see myself playing this a lot when it launches. Once you begin to understand the intricacies of the title, MAG becomes a pleasure to play, and I can safely say this is one of the best Betas I have been a part of. Keep your eyes on this game!"

"Hey MAG fans –

We have some exciting news to announce. Starting this month, you can head to your local 7-Eleven and reserve your copy of MAG to receive an exclusive MAG recruitment kit and poster. What's in this uber-exclusive recruitment kit? Expect to find a brief history of the Shadow War and learn about the three leading private military corporations (PMCs) – their skill sets, their reputation, and their purpose. And then decide where your loyalties will lie. Will you be attracted to the aggressive nature of S.V.E.R.; will the high-tech expertise of RAVEN be your calling, or will the honor of VALOR be your deciding factor? The choice will be yours."

You must use a US account. The site is legitimate as I just recieved my code :P

To the people getting the 11/10 error, it's because you're not using a US account!

To find your code, either check your email or click on the REWARD CODES link.

PS I just got mine!

Here are the answers to the quiz

I completed the 5 quizzes and I am currently in the process of DLing the beta.

The answers to the quizzes are as follows:

MAG as a whole will be focused primarily on:

Large scale infantry combat

The game's timeline is based how many years in the future?
The PMCs in the game will take the place of what traditional military forces?

State Militaries
The "Shadow War" is a war between PMCs and state militaries over natural resources.
The game's PMCs are all vying with each other for both_______ and __________

Contracts ; Wealth

--------------------------------------

According to Zipper Interactive's Technical Art Director Steve Suhy, he became seriously interested in the MAG project because of:

256 players being able to play online at once

Even with 256 players online, MAG will still be able to run at 30fps.

True

According to producer Alan Van Slyke, the game has been developed so that players will never feel __________ on the battlefield.

Moments ago we received (another) MAG beta invite, but this time on our European PlayStation Network Account. If you happen to live in Europe, check your inbox to see if you have been lucky enough to have received a code. The beta in Europe will run until October 9th 2009 from 17:00 to 20:00 BST and 00:00 and 03:00 BST.
ARS: 15 beta codes for MAG on the PS3, and we're not sharing (News)

ARS: After the giveaway for the Brutal Legend demo codes, I became a little cynical. Why give stuff away if all anyone is going to do is complain about GameStop and argue about demos? I'm giving you guys stuff, and all I get are complaints, complaints, complaints.

So when a reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, picked up a stack of codes for the MAG beta at PAX this year and sent them in as a gift for other Ars Technica readers, I was tempted to do the right thing and give them away. But I decided not to. To hell with that. I'm keeping all of them.

Earlier today, Zipper Interactive prepped for an influx of new beta participants as the closed MAG beta opened up to Qore annual subscribers, SCEE lottery winners, frequent forum posters, and select media. They also launched a new patch that essentially was comprised of the entire game, so they could further test MAG's higher player count matches. The PlayStation community had counted down to this day since it was announced late last month.

However, a quick look at Sony's track record of launching online multiplayer games and anyone could see that launching a massive 3GB patch while admitting thousands of new players would be a recipe for disaster and disappointment.
There, I found Seth Luisi, Director of Development at SCEA, who walked us through a 128-player "Acquisition" mode Valor map that's playable on the show floor.

"Turns out Dragon Age: Origins is suffering from the Section 8 complex insofar that PS3 gamers will be left in the gutter. News about the Halo movie have surfaced, or more-so why the movie itself won't be surfacing. A new debut trailer was recently made available for the innovative new Aspyr shooter, DreamKiller and id Software's Rage, and Nintendo announced that they are going to win back hardcore gamers with an inflatable horse. Way to go Nintendo, you really know how to hit all the right notes for keeping the fans pleased. These stories and more in the Blend Games Weekly Recap for August 15th."

PS Blog: One of the most highly anticipated PS3 titles shown at this year's E3 was Zipper Interactive's MAG. Since you've been asking us so much about it, we decided to send Veronica Belmont to Seattle to get the 411 on this ambitious shooter. After seeing the game in action, we're certain you'll be just as impressed with its scope as we are. But the US isn't the only place to find great games, of course-Veronica and Audrey Cleo visited Japan this month to see what other games are coming our way.

A multiplayer beta for Sony's 256-player online shooter, MAG: Massive Action Game, is currently under way, but you're not invited.

Reports of a "MAG Beta" showing up on people's now-playing status on PSN are cropping up, reported to be the profiles of Sony employees.

Sony confirmed to CVG that it is indeed a "closed Beta" for "internal staff only", so you've got no chance of getting on it yourself. But it could be a sign that the expected public beta test will be with us sooner rather than later?
We've been trying to get a handle on the plethora of PlayStation games that will be on display from June 2 through June 4, and it's quite astounding. If you weren't excited about the prospect of new announcements for the PlayStation brand, what if we told you there will be over 75 unique PlayStation games on display - that we know about?! While many are multiplatform titles (though the best still appear to be Sony-exclusive), it is a large increase from last year's showing."
