You'll also be able to decorate with stickers, which is another of LittleBigPlanet's big draws. Anything can be plastered with stickers, whether it's an object, the environment or your Sackboy (who can also be duded out with clothes, new eyes, wobbling exposed brains or dozens of other weird accessories). You'll have a pretty sizable cache of them to start with, including cartoonish facial features, graffiti-like designs, etc., but you'll also be able to make your own from EyeToy photos or jpegs stored on your PS3's hard drive.
Oh, and if the scenery and music don't match the aesthetic you're going for, you'll be able to switch them with a simple button press. During our demo, we watched the background rapidly change from the sunny forest scenery of the trailers, to a cow-skull-laden desert, to an Asian-style garden, to a creepy cemetery with giant headstones.
Finally, if you're worried that the developers will be relying on users to do all the level design for them, never fear. While it will always be playable by up to four people, the game will come packed with a campaign-style progression, although we don't yet know if that'll have some sort of story, if it'll be a tutorial intended to get players used to creating things or even how long it'll be. We do know it'll feature pre-made levels, although the developers stressed once again that the exact same tools and objects used to build those levels will be immediately available to players.
And that seems to be the whole point - to provide a creative experience that'll be fun for players, whether they want to dabble casually or devote themselves to making gigantic, challenging levels. With no monsters or visible ways to die, it might prove too peaceful for some, but the game's still a ways off - we'll see how it shapes up as 2008 draws nearer. For now, though, it's looking fantastic.
