Kudos to Mikel for not buying into the hype train that comes with nearly every ps3 exclusive. If ps3 came out with a game called "Poop in a Box" fanboys would hail it saying the free-flow sandbox style excrement far exceeds anything the 360 could do and you have to be bias to not want to roll around in it. 7 is a fine score, there's nothing to go nuts about. He gave valid reasons he didn't like it and unlike you guys, HE ACTUALLY PLAYED THE REAL GAME. Since you haven't, you should cover up, your idiocy is showing
Lol what kind of crappy review is that? If all the biggest game sites rate this game a 9 it's kind of silly to make it look like even Spiderman is a better game. Telling people to save their money for Prototype is also the most unprofessional statement I have ever seen on any game site. I can understand they want to lure some traffic to their pop-up add infested site, but that is kinda pathetic.
I wonder if reviews from halfbaked sites like this actually get taken into account for the Metatric average?
First off I'd like to say Good Review Mr. Reparaz, don't let your naysayers get you down.
Now, to add my two cents to all the stupid ranting. I'll start with this, if the part that affects your opinion of a review most is the number given, you are a moron. Thumbs up, down, 5 stars, 70/100, A-, 2 bloody fucking unicorns, whatever the rubrick, it's all a bunch of arbitrary, meaningless crap. The worth of a review is in the words, not the numbers. And there is nothing unjustified or unfair in this review. All the negatives cited are valid reasons why a man of Mr. Reparaz's tastes(or biases, yes kids, despite what fox news may tell you, bias is not a bad word and is just basically synonymous with 'what a person tends to like'), when asked by the stupid masses to provide an arbitrary number denoting his OPINION of the quality of the game, would give it a 7/10. Personally, all the reasons stated are ones that a man with similar tastes(or biases) to me, probably wouldn't find them to be annoying or unenjoyable and would rate the game higher if asked, but that doesn't negate the validity of Mikel's claims. And, actually reading the well-written, honest, and informative review has made me more excited and anxious to go out and get this game because I know that. The fact that there is a 7/10 tacked on to the end of it doesn't stop me from going out buying this game and loving the hell out of it. All it does is tell me that me and Mikel may not hold the same opinions on what we like in games, and that I may not want base my purchasing decisions solely on the numbers he assigns to the games he reviews.
Good reviews are well-written PERSONAL OPINIONS on a product from an informed consumer of the medium, and if you read GR or listen to TDar you know Mikel is a serious, informed, experienced gamer. It is not his job to write a review that agrees completely with your biases and views or even the biases and views of the majority. If you want to be taken seriously and considered an intelligent human being and not a forum ranting douchebag, then read a bunch of reviews, get the game and decide for yourself your opinion of it. If you like it tell everyone to go buy it and play it, and be happy and content rather than an angry shut-in who spews vitriol at people that don't agree with everything you do.
how in the mother of hell did this game get a 7 and bionic commando get an 8?! Cmon Mikel i've always trusted ur reviews but i'm not very sure now, surely this game is better than bionic commando?
Also, bakakaba a review is not supposed to tell you whether that particular editor liked the game, its supposed to tell you whether the game is good to US the readers, editors don't write reviews for themselves they write them for us to read. So basically what gamesradar is saying is that bionic commando is a better game than inFamous, which i cannot disagree with completely given the fact that i haven't played either game, but having read many reviews on both of the games and seeing gameplay i'm almost sure that it's not true. That said Mikel, I still love you...
Good job Wikiparez, you didn't buy into the hype of a game, gave it a fair review, and called the shitstorm that was going to happen because of it. I wish these nerdragers would understand that not every game is going to be amazing and perfect. I bet many of them will either agree with you when they finally get the game, or lie to themselves about how great it is.
Honestly though people, don't like his review? Then leave. I doubt that GR really wants hits from raging fanboys and whiney girls like yourselves. This review was how Mikel saw the game, his own personal feelings about it, and what he thought others should think about before buying it. That is what a review is. I would love to see people like Goopy up there's site where he reviews all the top games and interviews some high-quality industy people. I mean, he -must- be on metacritic, because his skills are just that leet, hmm?
All in all, I liked it, rage is stupid, and I can't wait for the Prototype review.
7 is still a decent score but i find the review...lacking. and the fact that the HORRIBLE new bionic commando got a higher score than this is pure absurd. still an opinion is an opinion.
@TesSteckle You are completely wrong, and are perpetuating the same silly view that all the haters are. How the hell does a person write a review of something that tells other people whether or not they would like it? That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. There is no way for a reviewer, unless they are psychic, to know what is good for someone else. Take Plants vs Zombies for example, I love that game. My roommate, who I tend to think alot alike and enjoy many of the same things, merely thinks it's alright and wouldn't run around recommending it to everyone he knows like I would and have. All a reviewer can do is discuss the mechanics of a game and what the reviewer liked or didn't and why they would or wouldn't recommend it to others. It is then up to you the reader to figure out if the opinions of the reviewer are valid enough and in line with your own tastes to take their recommendation or not. The reviewer is not a democracy and is not beholden to the readers or the majority of public opinion.
compared to other reviews like those from gamespot, ign, gamedaily and/or videogamers, i can clearly say for myself that this review here is one of the most informative and - in a way - gamer/user friendly. The only thing i was missing is the relevance of city exploring itself, because it seems like the game got such a - in comparison - low score mostly for this fact. while exploration in assassins creed was fun, i personally got bored after some time while climbing the 100th tower. BUT none the less a good and non-biased article, that ends with a good laugh(the metacritic info) - thats exactly why i love this side so much. keep up the good work, author.
Fanboys? Actually, all I've seen are inFamous bashers saying, "Good review". I think it's retarded that this game got a 7. Personally, I think IGN and Gamespot are more credible when it comes to reviews, and they averaged a 9.1. What could gamesradar possibly see that those two much more successful sites didn't? Well, maybe they weren't biased by playing Prototype. See, Gamespot doesn't let reviewers play similar games to ones that they're reviewing. Why? Because, it will obviously create bias. I'll agree, sometimes you stick to things you don't want to, but all you have to do is hit circle. That's it! And as for your "no life" in Empire City, I've played the demo four times, exploring around, and I've almost equaled my total play time of a game I actually own, Grand Theft Auto 4. Just being able to climb and get around the city in different, interesting ways makes this city awesome. And as for the graphics, I think the game looks GREAT. Prototype looks like shit; maybe a little better than a PS2 game, and up until a few days ago, I was completely psyched about Prototype. Then I saw inFamous, which seems to have a much better story, much better game design, and much better graphics. I personally am looking forward to this game more than any other game since Gears 2 (which fucking sucked). I'm about to go play the demo a fifth time, because I, unlike some biased reviewers and haters, can appreciate inFamous for what it is: A fast-paced, mind-blowing romp through the streets of a living, breathing city, with enough ridiculous powers to light the whole damn place up. I recommend you all do the same.
So this site gave infamous the lowest score on the internet... Something is wrong with that. Not that I care what a site that usually reviews games with a paragraph review says, but it seems like the guy that reviewed this game had his mind made up before he even started.
This site should stick to making funny lists, not serious game reviews.
just played the infamous demo, and, unlike these dumb shits (sorry if you agreed too) I agreed with every word of this review. the previews are all you need to read to see that prototype's superior. all I need to know is whether to get prototype or operation flashpoint 2. (If you've played OFP2, could you tell me if it's tacky or not, to guide me on my choice? thanks)
ok...firt off i am a ps3 fanboy, i love the ps3
that being said, this is a fair review. I played the demo a few times, and it was good. Didn't change the world, but it was fun. Although i must argue that empire city was realistic and believable, contrary to the review. And as its been said before, a 7 is still a good score. could've been alot worse. Good review
