to be honest, i couldn't care less what sites like Gamespot give this game, because they suck ass. I have no problem with this review because almost everything he didn't like about the game is explained, the only thing I don't understand is how bionic commando got an 8 and this got a 7. I have played bionic commando and can honestly say it is the worst game I have played in quite a while. I also don't like how he compared this game to Prototype, no matter how similar they are you should never compare a game to one that isn't out yet. That said this does not affect my trust in GR reviews, i still find the majority of them very reliable and well explained, so to those people saying GR shouldn't do reviews fuck off because you have no idea what you're talking about. Having said that, I still love you Reparez, but i hope someone can please explain to me (preferably Mikel himself) as to why they think bionic commando got a higher score than this game.

...Sigh... Have fun dealing with those damn fanboys. It's just not that good of a game ok?! Stop your bitching and face the truth! Sorry had to say that. I wanted to play this but after hearing this review... maybe a rent.

Why the hell is everyone jumping all over the reviewer? just go read a different and more favorable review, there are plenty of them.

Fair play to the reviewer for maintaining integrity and stating what he thought.

One bone I do have to pick is the Prototype comparison. Think about it, hours wandering around Empire in Infamous and you will notice more flaws. Play in a preview that has been designed to be play-tested by journalists, where the designers want to obtain most wow-factor and publicity for their work, and it is hard to get a handle on how the overall game will be.

That's my only gripe.

And guys Halo 3 was reviewed when? 2006? Of course it doesn't seem as good now as it once did.
MilitaryRaiden  - 6 months 9 days ago
It's true though what some people said a few posts back - I can't possibly understand how can Infamous get 7/10 while on this very site Bionic Commando scored an overly generous 8/10.

I first played the multiplayer demo and later on tried it out at a friend's - and it's a horrible embarassment of a game.

Granted, it's one point's difference but seriously - Bionic Commando while it showed great promise it really does shoot one down because it is such an absolute dissapointment...

great job michael, really informative, detailed review. + a billion respect that you had the balls to give a game that a lot of people where automatically going to defend the score that you thought it truly deserved, rather than the score they wanted. it is quite weird that certain people already know its going to be perfect, even though it still hasnt been released, but whatever, i guess they stole it or something. i mean, according to them its just the worst thing ever to have a definitive verdict on a game that someone hasnt even played to completion, right? from what i hear from various podcasts and other tidbits of news around the internet 7 seems a pretty reasonable score so well done, good sir, well done

Ha... in that case Mikel... keep it up dude! You show us ranting masses your power of awesome xD

I'm sure after some of us get our hands on the REAL game, (not just a demo) then, some of us might come back and... NOT apologize. Cuz that's the way ranters roll. But i'm pretty sure we might THINK about it.

and i did forget to write it down on my last comment. but whatever:

Thanks for your honest review man.

I'm sorry Mikel. I'm mainly a PS3 guy, like plenty of the other people here apparently. And I'm utterly ashamed of the way some of these guys are reacting. It's ridiculous. I trust your judgment, and your score of a seven. Some of these fanboys just need to calm down and realize there's more to life than the score of an exclusive game. And why do people have to rag on GamesRadar in general for your score? This reaction from people is absurd.
DrRock  - 6 months 9 days ago
I played the demo and I liked most of what I got to play. I enjoyed Crackdown and wished there was more of a story.
The review touches on a lot of points and you can't expect GR to fluff a game anyways. This site loves to piss of fanboys and piss on game developers and that's why we all come to this site, because they give it to us and a unique way.
Just my opinion

Marketing behind exclusive games gets gamer interested in buying said games. That's what marketing is about. Getting you to spend your money on their games. A marketing team could spin a tale telling you that the turd they just pooped out was the best thing next to air and you would believe it. That's why there is so much money in marketing. The truth comes out what the reviews start pouring out. Some sites fluff games scores to just get more hits on their sites. Some sites are really credible while others are not. If you don't like the reviewer or the site then why come here and post all this bile shit.
I've listened to all Tdar's podcast and Mikel is very knowledgeable about gaming in general and just because his score isn't online with what you expect you all get your JLA underwear in binds. Go buy/rent the game and make the decision on that choice. No one said you had to base your game purchases on Mikel's decisions did they? Is your wallet holding a gun to your head and saying; "What did Mikel give this game? It had better be a 8 or higher or you're not getting the money in me to get this game."
It's your right to express your opinion but at least wipe your ass before you start spewing all your hate!
I've already bought the game and will play it evil. If I don't like it I'll put it for trade on gametz.
Mikel never be a sheep. Be a bull with some big fuckin nuts!

I've played the infamous demo at my friend's house, and it sucked large donkey balls.

Suck it, fanboys.

@MilitaryRaiden: Yeah, I get what you're saying about cars, and normally I'd agree (although it's nice to have the option). My problem with inFamous' take on it is that, because your means for rapid superhero travel are so closely tied to the environment, there's no quick way to get around without doing a little advance planning. Every time I wanted to get from one end of the Neon to another end of the Warren, say, it was like, "OK, I'll take the tracks up to this bridge, then I'll hop some power lines, and then there are no good lines in this area so I'll have to climb up onto a roof and maybe glide around, and then I'll have to run through the street for a while..."

Now, that can be fun, but sometimes you just want to blindly haul ass from Point A to Point B, and that's not really a possibility here. As opposed to something like Spider-Man or Crackdown, where you can just web-swing/super-jump at high speed to anywhere you want to go.

EDIT: As for Bionic Commando getting an 8, I can't really comment on that, since I didn't write that review and haven't actually played BC for more than a few minutes. Athough judging by some of the scores it's gotten, I can understand why people would be upset at the disparity.

I would just like to point out, that being as Gamesradar an OXM are owned by the same company they probably have the same reviewing guide - if not, then very similiar at the very least - but in its description for a 10/10, it says that this game is an Editors choice, it exceeded expectations, change the genre etc etc, but it does not mean that the game is perfect. That score is an 11/10, and it will never happen. I just posted this because I saw some people complaining about Gamesradar giving Halo 3 a 10/10 and saying its not perfect, it should get a lower score. But the thing is, there is no thing as perfect, because their is always room for improvement.

Actually I would say the reaction is milder than other instances on this and other sites... I'll put this down to the fact Mike has reasons far better than those who complain, many who haven't played the game... and Prototype (BTW I can't wait for that game now).

The worst case of "fanboyism" was from, non-surprisingly Nintendo/Zelda fans over the GameSpot review of Twilight Princess... that was really annoying on many levels.

What I'd love to since is a review of Final Fantasy VII given a non-perfect score (notice I didn't say bad score), perhaps a port or something.

Bah. When I downloaded the demo(Which took 400 mins) I thought it was better than I had orignally tought, I just ran around blowing up cars, that was pretty fun, then I decided to do the missions incorperated in the game then I just, the train was annoying because it kept stopping and you ad to jump off all the time, then when you finally fininshed that mission, there would be these gang-bangers all around you, shooting at you fromevery dirrection, and you die pretty easily for a super-heroe game, it just felt like there was no freedom, sanbox games are supposed to be like you can run arund not having to do missions, but if your constantly killing enemies and in constant anger of death from this what is there free about this? whats so open-wold? to me its fun, but its just like one giant mission where you haev to duck and dive to avoid enemies, and kill some of these conduits, with some long, side missions.

Hmmm you missed the point completely with this review. Its almost as though you havent played the game! Are the reviews here amature ones or are the people here paid? Im new to this site.
The climbing in the game is meant to be more like Assassins creed and not spiderman, so he cant just stick to walls, he is climbing like a normal man, just with more skill. It makes the game more exciting, and since when do you get stuck? Just press the O button to drop off the ledge...

You shouldnt mark games down just because you are bad at them, its bad that others read the reviews and then believe controls are bad etc.

This game isnt perfect but your score and review fall short in so many ways...

I would give your review 4/10 for not mentioning so many powerfull points of the game and focusing on aspects you found difficult. To review a game you should be objective and think of others playing, not how you find it. Nice website though.

@MikelReparaz:

Don't get me wrong, I understand the problem about going from A to B fast but this has more or less been thus far the problem with every sandbox game - whether that is GTA IV (let's not get started on San Andreas which was unbelievably huge...) etc.
If you can't teleport it's a drag unless you've got something good to look at while you're going about.

That was certainly the case with Crackdown whose art design was and still is amazing and that is also true about Infamous (from the little that I've seen thus far anyway) but not so with the latest Spiderman game that you've mentioned - the whole place looked kind of stale and not exactly inspired.

Still you're right that it would be nice to have the option - but then again all games do have their own limitations.

No one would complain if CoD4 didn't have the weapon options that Rainbow Six Vegas provided like carrying a shotgun, a rifle, a pistol and two types of explosives.

And even though it would be great if Niko could take a couple of super jumps from Aulderney to Bohan no one in their right mind would complain about GTA IV not having the nifty bag of tricks of Crackdown - although that would have been awesome even if it was via unlocks or cheat-codes.

As for the comparisons between all of the abovementioned superhero games Infamous seems to have them all pegged as far as story is concerned as well as how the story is conveyed. The choice of incorporating comic book aesthetics to the whole narrative was a great choice in my opinion.
Too bad they didn't opt for that in the dialog before and after the accepted missions.

Crackdown had almost none of any interest and Spiderman's was beyond lame - the voice acting alone could get you suicidal halfway through a cutscene...

Be that as it may it's your job to voice your opinion and back it up with conviction despite everyone else's wishful thinking.
And even if I still do disagree with parts of the review I always enjoy a good Gamesradar piece.
Keep up the good work, Mikel.
