Tuesday 26 September 2006 The latest screens from PS3 showcase Heavenly Sword show some of the battlefield scales we can expect from the game - with a lot less fluttering banners than the original screens but some corking explosions to make up for it. Nariko will be able to wield an "ancient bazooka" for dealing with the hulking siege engines, while the scores of troops are fodder for the lawnmower effects of her ... » Read More

PS3 - Heavenly Sword - Heavenly Sword First Impressions When the Xbox 360 launched last Christmas, it was widely remarked upon that many of the console's early portfolio of titles were developed in the UK - with games from Bizarre Creations and Rare forming the backbone of the launch line-up for the system. With the PlayStation 3, once again, British developers are punching above their weight - and of the key first-party titles given top billing on Sony's stand at TGS, no less than three hail from the sceptered isle. Two are racing games - the genuinely head-turning MotorStorm and the nice-if-you-like-that-sort-of-thing F1 - while the third is developer Ninja Theory's graphically stunning slash-'em-up, Heavenly Sword.

Wednesday 20 September 2006 Showcase PS3 actioner Heavenly Sword may use the next-gen console's motion-sensing controller range to pan and zoom its in-game camera, a recent developer interview has suggested. The E3 version of the game had no player camera control, but did a good job of choosing the most arty, cinematic angles for any situation (we especially liked the Evil Dead-style follow-cam when heroine Nariko hurls a dropped enemy's shield like a lethal frisbee). However, Heavenly Sword's ... » Read More

Continuing a theme of PS3 screenshot showcases in the run-up to the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, here's the arena combat sequence from next year's slash 'em-up Heavenly Sword played out blow-by-blow in a flurry of screens. Eagle-eyed followers of the game might note that it's suspiciously familiar to what we saw at this year's E3 - these are fresh shots, but from an old version, hopefully because Sony intends to show off new gameplay footage in two weeks' time. The final game is intended to mix ... » Read More

All but the first game were previously announced. Given its publisher (and title), the first game is likely a train simulation game of some form.

The remaining 8 titles are currently a mystery, so we encourage wild speculation.

Sony will also have a theater in its booth which will show video footage of a total of 35 titles. We presume there will be some overlap with the playable titles and the video-only titles, but Sony wasn't clear about the matter.

PS3 - Heavenly Sword - PS3 to come out on top, says Jez San Jez San, founder of the now-defunct Argonaut Software and now involved with PS3 slash 'em-up, Heavenly Sword has said that he thinks the PlayStation 3 will come out on top in the next-gen console war, "but only because its got Blu-ray."

Speaking to The Guardian, San said: "I think the combination of a next-generation games machine and a next-generation DVD player that plays full high-definition movies is very compelling, despite the huge price. Remember price is just a function of time and volume. It doesn't matter what the PS3 comes out at, it's what it gets down to, over time, that's important."

In the same article, market analyst Paul Jackson of Forrester Research agrees with San's comments, saying that Sony stands a good chance because, "Far more people will go for a PS3 than spend $1,000 on a Blu-ray player ...it's a question of how quickly [Sony] gets the price down."

Wednesday 17 May 2006 Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory is hoping that its martial arts action game, Heavenly Sword, will be the start of a big franchise for PlayStation 3. Ninja Theory is "thinking really big in terms of a franchise," the developer's chief technology officer Mike Ball told Edge magazine, continuing, "obviously our focus now is on the first Heavenly Sword but there's a big story to be told beyond that". Heavenly Sword tells the tale of a young girl called Nariko, the ... » Read More

Busting skulls is fun enough, but when you're playing as an impossibly attractive warrior woman, equipped with a holy-but-cursed sword, it gets even better. We rushed our eager eyes straight to this medieval basher as soon as the E3 doors blew open. The playable scene drops you into a gladiator-style arena. The mysterious, big boss man keeps sending waves of soldiers into the pit, each differently armored and ready to cut you down. But you've got a bevy of combos to bust out, all of which are ... » Read More

One of the biggest bombs Sony dropped at their press conference on Monday was Heavenly Sword. Introduced with little fanfare, their presentation showed a God of War-like game with a sexy, white-clad heroine mowing down a horde of generic-looking baddies with a series of completely unique moves involving a chain and some very big swords. It was fast, it was vicious and it was one of the best-looking games we've ever seen. It might not have been so impressive had it not all been actual gameplay. ... » Read More

Tuesday 9 May 2006 Martial arts actioner Heavenly Sword was one of the most impressive PS3 games presented at yesterday's pre-E3 Sony conference and we've got an avalanche of new shots to prove it. Set in a mythical time and place in the ancient far east, Heavenly Sword follows the story of heroine Nariko who is on the trail of revenge against an evil king and his invading army.
