PS3 - Guitar Hero World Tour - Study: LBP, GHWT Top Online Engagement Chart In a new report tracking popular video games among online audiences, research firm Networked Insights ranked Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet and Activision's Guitar Hero: World Tour among its ten highest ranked titles according to "online engagement."

Networked Insights notes that four titles in its top ten software chart, including Guitar Hero: World Tour, were not included in The NPD Group's published top ten list for October 2008, which ranked video game releases by unit sales.

According to the firm, traditional video game rankings based on sales and shipping data detail only a small aspect of the gaming audience's engagement with video games. The company claims its data provides a "more holistic story" to in-game advertisers, game developers, and companies marketing virtual goods.

To track online engagement, Networked Insights analyzed not only video game-related content posted online, but audience behaviors around that content such as reading, rating, sharing, linking, and inviting. The study followed 17,000 social media and social networking sites, which included 3.5 million conversations per day and over 120 million unique users.

PS3 - Guitar Hero World Tour - Guitar Hero "Reaching its Peak" - Analyst Edge writes: "Lagging Guitar Hero: World Tour sales are an indication that Activision's explosively popular series is finally "reaching its peak," claimed Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich in a Monday research note.

Ahead of U.S. NPD Group November sales data, Divich said, "Currently, we expect unit sales to decline by more than 50 percent series-over-series for November. This is coming off the October month where series-over-series units declined by more than 60 percent."

Guitar Hero: World Tour sales had been initially hampered by tight supply, but now Ebay reseller prices are beginning to register below the bundle's $189 retail tag, "a strong indication that demand and supply are currently in equilibrium," said Divnich."

PS3 - Guitar Hero World Tour - Defending the Plastic Guitar! That Gaming Site Writes: "I play real Guitar and Guitar Hero.

Being a fan of both, I've been subject to numerous arguments over and over about how playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band is a waste of time and that 'nerds' should try picking up a real instrument and do something productive for a change. It was in this week's edition of NME (a British Indie Music Publication) that brought me this comment, in an article that........"

PS3 - Guitar Hero World Tour - Resellers take advantage of World Tour shortages Shortages in the supply of Guitar Hero World Tour's full band kit for all platforms is driving resale demand to above the USD 300 mark.

Analysts at Cowen and Company downplayed concerns over the latest instalment of the Guitar Hero's sales, labelling them "overblown", and putting down the underperforming results to a limited supply - something the soon to be released PlayStation 2 SKU should go part way to solving.

However, the analyst group did say that the poor supply was being exploited by resellers selling the full kit at a cost many times higher than the retail price.
