Grand Theft Auto IV

Bigger, deeper and crazier than ever, the new Liberty City lives up to the hype

We've been asking for it for years, and now - finally - a console Grand Theft Auto has a multiplayer mode. Actually it has about 14, all but three of which support up to 16 players at once. You can access multiplayer at any time from Niko's cell phone in the single-player game - hell, you can ignore the single-player altogether, if you just want to play against friends. Just be warned that the money you collect here only counts toward your online rank - not toward Niko's adventure.

In all of the game types, you've essentially got the run of Liberty City, although you can scale a match down so that you'll only respawn within a certain area. You'll also have full access to vehicles, and if you choose to turn them on, you'll even have to deal with police. Once you've customized a male or female avatar (and maybe practiced a little with a quick tutorial), you're ready to go; here's what you can expect:

Party Mode
Do you hate sitting around in text-only lobbies, waiting anxiously to play while the host and his two friends argue about what map to play in next? Now you can spend that time gunning down the other players instead. Party Mode is essentially an open, playable lobby, "open" in that you're free to run around Liberty with other players while the host sets up the next game. No score is kept, so it can get a little dull, but overall it's a whole hell of a lot better than just listening to strangers argue while staring at a list of gamertags.

 Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch
If you've ever played any kind of multiplayer shooter, we're going to guess you already know what this is; just run around in a pre-designated area, killing the other team or just everyone you see. It's not complicated, but GTA IV brings a wealth of options to the table - like, say, police presence. Or our personal favorite, the ability to restrict every player to just one weapon type. Like rocket launchers. It might not be revolutionary, but the chaos caused by 16 people letting off RPGs on a crowded street is pretty damn unique. See it for yourself below:

Wow. I am drooling from just reading the 7 pages. Now, I know I have to get a PS3 and get Grand Theft Auto IV. Kudos Rockstar!

My wife and I feel Grand Theft Auto 4 is a game suitable for your child only if you think you child is mature enough to play it. Frankly, I think my children are easily mature enough to play it. They are only 10 years old. You should trust your child.

Ok ok...GTA4 isn't incredible at all. I'd give it a 9. A 9 is still very good. And here is why i give it that rating.

1. You can have more realistic fun-but sometimes messing around takes the realism out of the game.

2. The graphic's are great-My LCD flat screen HDMI has made it clear that GTA4 is a game not real (lot's of glitches on my screen).

3. The car's, the bike's and weapons. Take them three thing's out of this game, then all you have is a man in a city walking around looking pissed off. Rockstar games have mastered how to use all them to the max so well done.

4. The city is based around New York. Rockstar have done a good job on trying to clone it. But i've found myself starring at plain old pointless building's. The only thing they're there for is for you to crash into in your car or on your bike. Make them building's useful.

5. Comparison to San Andreas. There are many thing's more to do on San Andreas. Those thing's almost got in the way of thing's. The question is:Can Rockstar add some of them little thing's but keep them out of the way when not needed.

6. Storyline. There's nothing wrong with the storyline in GTA4. Rockstar now need to find a way to improve it now or extend it.

Well done Rockstar for making this extremly fun game. Hope the next game is just as good if not better.
