Kazunori Yamauchi talks about car damage (some cars will have it, some won't), Xmas 2008 release for GT5 (not GT5 Prologue), how he would be frustrated with the Wii, and that the 360 to him is not a true full HD console.

Regarding Damage:

-They are testing car damage, but they have to reach a compromise. He put as example after the curve in Daytona, touching with the back of the car against the laterals can literally destroy the car, because it reaches a force of 150G! Yamauchi doesn't want to destroy cars like that, but he understands that fans want car damage, because it's part of reality. Some car makers don't mind car damage, others forbid it, so there will be cars with damage and cars without damage.
Sept 28, 2007

Sony has said that it will be pulling freebie racer Gran Turismo HD off the Japanese PlayStation Store on or after September 30.

It's not because it's bugged or anything like that. It's because there's another GT racer in the offering in the form of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

There's been no word on whether the same will happen in the US or Europe but we suggest you grab it now just in case you haven't already.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue should be with us late this year - fingers ...
As we found out last week, Sony is prepping a taster edition of Gran Turismo 5 - Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. But, wait. How long has it been since we had a proper GT? What is it exactly that developer Polyphony Digital gets up to?

This on-site footage gives you an idea of the lengths that Polyphony goes to, in order to tie down the slippery fish of realism, and give Gran Turismo gamers the true Real Driving Simulator. It's all seriously dedicated stuff, and they do it all from scratch for every ...
Not surprisingly, E3 was a big this time as well; what made the extra special is the fact that Sony had a point to prove to the world.

E3 has brief description on each of it's announcements. Since it was a big event and thee were a lot of announcements E3 will be covering it in two parts. First part includes details on MGS4, Killzone 2, Halo 3, GT HD, Home and many more.
The release of the highly-anticipated Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 could be pushed back as far as late 2008 says director Kaunori Yamauchi, who wants the game to be absolutely perfect before it's released.

Speaking with Car and Driver magazine (via Gamers-Creed), Yamauchi touted Spring 2008 as the earliest that the game could see release, but affirmed that Sony is more than willing to push that date back to the end of the year should his team need more time.

Yamauchi made reference to the cars as ...

Flow co-creator Jenova Chen believes that games need to offer an emotional outlet often lacking in popular genres such as shooters and racing games.

"Right now video games are focused on releasing anger and stress...that's really limited. If you want a deeper understanding of life, you aren't going to get it from a video game."

This special version of the PS3 Gran Turismo 5 demo had one thing you won't be able to download for yourself via the PlayStation Store: the Xanavi Nismo Z. The car was playable for all attendees of the event. Sony and Nissan also held a tournament where attendees could take on professional racers in a digital race. Joining the updated demo was a new trailer video showcasing the latest Skyline. Hopefully, Sony will be kind enough to make the video available for download via the PlayStation Store.
Well, this was an unexpected surprise. Sony generously decided to hand out a completely free, ten-car and one track teaser demo of Gran Turismo HD to any PS3 owners who wants it. Granted, this isn't GT 5 - it's just an enhanced version of GT 4 - but we'll take it.

Your prize for waiting for 650MB to download is a clearly beautiful race game that, and were not exaggerating, looks streets ahead of anything else available. The cars are fantastic models and they look incredibly sharp. There are no ...
Theres never a backlash when it comes to Gran Turismo - the public loves the series so much, it can get away with practically anything. Poor old Gran Turismo 4 was delayed a million times and wasnt quite as online as Sony said it would be, but still we adored it and bought it without any fuss. Gran Turismo 3 shouldve been a PS2 launch game, but arrived two years later, but we didnt care then either.

And it looks like well be waiting until 2008 for the PlayStation 3 version of Gran Turismo 5, ...
The fourth title in the series was a labor of love. Twenty programmers, 40 artists and another 20 or so pen-pushers all came together under the guidance of Mr. Yamauchi to create Gran Turismo 4. It was delayed to hell - but we didnt really care. It had its online options removed, but we didnt really care either.

The game mechanics were the same, and perhaps too similar to previous games. Common complaints like lack of car damage, no damn Ferraris, and the robotic enemy drivers werent ...
Gran Turismo 3 was the first game most of us on saw running on PlayStation 2, thanks to the “GT 2000” demo that appeared alongside PS2 when it launched in Japan in March 2000. A little more than a year later wed get the final version of GT3, and boy did it ever show off PS2 to the maximum.

Even now, loading up the six-year-old PS2 game is a staggering event. Religious, even. It still has the power to shame the puny efforts being put out by other game-makers today, thanks to its ...
There were still no Porsches or Ferraris, but what the hell. Gran Turismo 2 came out in December of 1999, just when the world was starting to get excited about PlayStation 2. That didnt matter though - GT2 was a staggering creation that squeezed more out of PSone than had ever seemed possible before.

The feel and system was pretty much unchanged from GT1, apart from two enhancements - the number of cars went from under 200 to well over 600, and the tracks were boosted from the mid teens to ...
So, thinking about it, if you want to thank anyone for starting the whole Gran Turismo ball rolling, thank series creator Kazunori Yamauchis dad.
Sony today announced it has canceled the retail version of Gran Turismo HD, the slicked-up remake of Gran Turismo 4 that was shown heavily in the months leading up to the PlayStation 3's launch. As of press time, however, the announcement applies only to Japan, and there has been no word regarding the game's stateside status.

There is a silver lining for fans, however. First off, work on the game has stopped so that the developers can concentrate on creating Gran Turismo 5, which promises to ...
Gran Turismo HD isn't strictly a new outing for Sony's flagship racing series, just a hi-def version of Gran Turismo 4 - but one look at these new screens is enough to reignite our interest and have us fantasizing about thrashing out high-speed circuits of Laguna Seca while our eyes are caressed by the super-sharp high definition visuals.

The series has always looked good but hi-def will bring a new level of fetishistic obsession to Gran Turismo when it launches next year. With luck it'll also ...

Yamauchi provided a summary of what's known about GT HD so far, including the split in modes between classic and premium. Just to avoid confusion, we'll repeat the details here. Classic mode is GT4 in high definition and with a few additional visual enhancements. The mode will be playable exclusively through downloadable cars and tracks. Premium mode is a single player preview of Gran Turismo 5, featuring a full-fledged PS3 graphics engine and detailed tracks and car models.
It's been four months since we first saw Gran Turismo HD's gameplay make its surprisingly boring debut at Sony's press conference, with boring footage of cars crawling around beautifully detailed - but somehow lifeless - racetracks. If that looked like your kind of thing, however, then we're happy to report that the playable version of HD has pretty much the same ...
Thursday 21 September 2006
Sony will use Gran Turismo HD, the next-gen update to the realism-heavy racing series on PlayStation 3, to showcase its 'micro-transaction' system for the console. The game will appear in two versions - GT HD: Premium, with 30 cars and two tracks included, and GT HD: Classic, a cheaper, stripped-down offering that features no cars whatsoever.

To play the Classic version you'll have to download cars and tracks using Sony's online service. This is according to an ...
Tuesday 9 May 2006
One of the highlights of Sony's E3 conference this year was, without a doubt, getting the opportunity to play Gran Turismo on PS3. And while it might only have been flagged by Sony as a playable prototype created especially for the show, it gives us an early sample of what we can expect from developer Polyphony Digital's next-gen racer when it finally pulls up as Vision GT.

The demo is made up of current-gen content and features 10 vehicles - including racing and commercial ...
Vision Gran Turismo - the purebred next-gen step for the seminal racing series - won't appear until next year at the earliest (and it almost certainly won't have that name, either). But these new images of Gran Turismo HD from Sony give us an idea of how stunning it will look. A highly-polished version of Gran Turismo 4, GT HD was shown at this year's E3 and boasted bigger race grids of 12 cars and far more detail than its PS2 sibling.

Point your eyes at the screen below, or click on the ...
