There have been numerous comparisons going around comparing Sony's GT5 or GT5: Prologue to Microsoft's Forza 3. Each title looks great in many regards, but the gamers want to know which title is superior. With a brilliantly made comparison video, gamers may finally have an answer to that question.
From September 21st, instead of the English version having all the articles manually translated from the Japanese originals, there'll be one unified site for all the world locales meaning you'll be gain the newest information on the GT games from any region."

Eager to get back on the track, but not so eager to ease up on the sauce? Fret not, our continually inebriated friends, as Logitech has just the answer for your awfully depressing road woes. The long-awaited successor to the original G25 racing wheel is finally on the scenes, as the G27 brings along real metal, real leather and a real taste of driving that can likely only be mimicked whilst seated in some sort of $30k+ sportster. The wheel is designed to function with Sony's PS2 and PS3 as well as Windows-based PCs, and aside from the built-in force feedback mechanism, you'll also find a pair of stainless steel shifter paddles, RPM / shift indicator lights and a clutch that fully supports heel-and-toe downshifting. Is all that realism worth $299.99? Judge with your wallet come September.
Similarly with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. GT5P (the predecessor of Gran Turismo 5), has a total of 3,940,000 units sold. That is just a 'half' game. In total, the Gran Turismo series has sold more than 52.73 million units .It is a very popular series and will remain so!
Hopefully Gran Turismo 5 will break all records!

Revealed as a concept car at last year's Paris Auto Show, the GT was penned by PSA Peugeot-Citroën designer Takumi Yamamoto in a tie in with the virtual car available to players of GT5. Now, AutoCar and other sources have confirmed that six - count 'em, six – examples of the carbon-fiber bodied beauty will be built and sold for about $2 million.
With their awkward fingers and stupid questions, it's a wonder we ever let them near our joypads at all. It's nice to get someone started in gaming, but it's so hard to witness utter incompetence at your favourite games.

But instead of yelling, snatching the pad and showing them how it should be done, why not sit back, make encouraging noises and tick off each entry in our list of classic rookie mistakes ...

GTplanet reports:

"Polyphony Digital's Citroën GT is set to become one of the most expensive "production cars" sold today, coming in at £1.1 million pounds or approximately $1.8 million U.S. dollars.

AutoCar got the scoop from "senior inside sources", who revealed that only six of the cars will be made - all of which will be powered by either a "Ford or GM V8?. That's considerably less than the 20 production models that were hinted at before, but according to AutoCar, "most of the concept's features should make the final production version, including the carbon-fibre construction and eccentric interior details such as the copper trim." Sweet! The final production version of the car is expected to be launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

While you're saving up, check out this video showing the GT's recent tour around London."

Racing London in Gran Turismo 5 was a fantasy we thought we'd never be able to enjoy in real-life. That's somewhat true, but today Citroën offered their stunning concept supercar, the GTbyCITROËN, to the city an recreated the circuit featured in Gran Turismo 5.

You can find a couple of photographs of the car's tour of London below, but be warned, one photo is not as it seems.

Kotaku Writes:
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto wasn't the only game developer checking out the competition, the folks behind Gran Turismo did as well - getting up close and personal with Forza 3.

According to Forza 3's Turn 10 Studios Blog:

Perhaps the most surprising to me was when a couple developers from Gran Turismo makers Polyphony Digital came by to personally get hands-on with Forza 3, all the while taking careful notes, examining our UI system, shooting photos, and directly asking us some pretty interesting questions. The reason I say I was personally surprised was because PD aren't generally known as a studio to acknowledge that there are racing games that exist beyond their own. Which could explain why the GT franchise has been so stagnant in the racing genre since GT3. So it seems competition is good for the consumer after all.

And good for Polyphony Digital and Gran Turismo, too.

GT 5:Prologue is availible on Blu-ray disc as well as via Playstation Network. However, there is no mention on Polyphony's page if the salesnumbers include downloads from PSN or not.

The question still remains if Gran Turismo 5 (the full game) can become the best selling of the Gran Turismo series.

According to the list Gren Turismo 3: A-Spec has sold 14.89 million copies on the Playstation 2.

Europe - 2,160,000
Japan - 650,000

The article originally in German translated to English via Google (but verbally corrected here) reveals ~

The GT by CITROËN is the world's first sports car, exclusively for a racing simulation game (GT5P) was designed, developed, and later made into a real 1:1 car model.

Sony Computer Entertainment Germany, Citroen and Polyphony Digital Inc. bring the CITROËN GT concept car for the first time to Germany's 24-hour classic Nurburgring race at The North Loop. CITROËN'S GT concept car is the "perfect combination of aerodynamics and elegance" and racing fans will have the first opportunity to see it live and close-up in the historic GT paddock.

The public will also officially have the ability to drive on the Nurburgring's North Loop in either the GT by CITROËN or any of the 70 cars within a demo of GT5P, available for play at the "GT Area" of Sony PlayStation's paddock on their mobile PlayStation Trailer Truck.
It offers just enough modification to the standard car's shape without going overboard, and the result is beautiful. Of course, much like the GTbyCitroen, it was designed entirely by Polyphony Digital, and it was not until last year at SEMA that this car will be brought to the "real world" by Japanese tuning shop Zele Performance.

"Polyphony Digital teamed up with RC car company HPI Racing to bring the Ford GT LM Spec II to life. We know the Ford GT is one of Kazunori Yamauchi's favorite cars (he actually owns two of them), which is probably the reason it was featured prominently in Gran Turismo 4's box art and the game's epic video intro. The 1:10 scale car looks to be very well put together, and much more powerful than anything you will find at your local Wal-Mart. Pricing has yet to be announced - check with your nearest HPI distributor (Europe/North America) for local availability."

Kotaku Write: Last year, Sony and Nissan teamed up to hold a Gran Turismo competition. GT racers would compete for a spot on a real race team. The winners are in, so let's go meet 'em.

Lars Schlömer is a German cab driver. Lucas Ordóñez is a uni student from Spain. Both are mad Gran Turismo fanboys, both have mad Gran Turismo skills, both will now be racing in the 24-hour Dubai endurance race on January 8 after they beat out 25,000 other competitors in GT5: Prologue for the top prize.

They'll be joined on the team (the Nissan PlayStation Team) by ex-Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert, and really, as far as game competitions go I'm stumped trying to come up with one that's so damn amazing.

Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi spoke about his company a bit in this ever changing industry. Of course, he talked quite a bit about Gran Turismo. He then lets loose a bombshell. He says that while Polyphony is exclusively in charge of car games, the company wants to make a new, distinctly different game.

The head of 'Ferrari Challenge' developer 'System 3' said earlier this year that convincing Ferrari to put damage on the cars was a "big challenge".

While Microsoft Europe seem intent on releasing a bundle to coincide with every single game released on the console over the next two months, Sony Europe are playing things a little more casual. Not so many bundles from them. Here's one they are releasing, though, and it's one that takes a slightly different approach to the standard throw-in-a-free-game deal. Seemingly destined for the Scandinavian market - having turned up unannounced on Norwegian online store Komplett, and having only Scandinavian languages on the box - this pack includes a 160GB PS3, a DualShock 3 and vouchers for four PSN games (GT5: Prologue, Quest for Booty, Last Guy & Super Stardust HD). You get all that for 4500 Krone, which is around USD$675.
If you do, that's great. If you don't, let me introduce myself. My name is Tanner Foust, and I'm a professional drift, rally, and ice racer. You may have seen me in a recent Play the Pros video on PSN, where I took on some Gran Turismo fans at X Games 14 this past summer before competing in the Rally Super Special race.

I am challenging all of you to post your best lap time in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, in the online race event "Tanner Foust Racing Competition." You'll have to bring your best driving skills and push the Nissan Fairlady Z (Japanese version of the 350Z – my drifting car of choice) around the London city track faster than anyone else. With Professional driving physics of course. You have from now until midnight on November 2 to put your skills to the test."

Eurogamer writes: "Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed Gran Turismo PSP is still in development - even though it's been years since the game was first announced.

When asked where GT PSP has got to, Yoshida said, "Good question! It's in Polyphony Digital, they're working on it."

The reason for the delay, according to Yoshida, is that Polyphony have been busy with other projects. "They have been working on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Gran Turismo 5 for PS3, so they've had to focus on finishing up Gran Turismo on the PS3 side," he explained. 'That's been making the PSP development a little bit slow.'"
Anyway, I booted up Gran Turismo 5 and was browsing around the options when I noticed something interesting: When you uncheck the "Disable Advanced Downloading" it asks you to "accept" or "decline"

In the past you used to get a warning message saying this feature would be enabled in a future firmware update. Well this message no longer pops up. I guess now we know what the firmware update did, possibly among other things.

BTW, the advanced downloading system allows for peer-to-peer content uploading for faster downloads of GT-TV purchases, much like the MGO Beta P2P download option.

"Earlier in the year, Polyphony Digital founder Kazunori Yamauchi (now of GT:TV fame, Top Gear next) mentioned that "maybe by Fall we'll be able to implement it [ie. damage modeling]," and confirming that it would be included as a patch to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. According to the Polyphony Digital boss, his studio is focusing a majority of its efforts on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. In fact, he confirmed that the proper, disc-based Gran Turismo 5 might not even roll out before 2010.
As the images at the source show, it's obviously using assets from Gran Turismo 4, and as such TheSixthAxis can't imagine Polyphony being happy with this being in the general public's hands.

PS3 Fanboy: "For those of you racing fans who've been looking around the world of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for your favorite tracks and walking away depressed, it seems a new dowloadable expansion may coming (it isn't said to be an expansion, but releasing another full demo/game seems silly). The expansion seems to be labeled as SPEC II and will have the race track "Nurburgring" for download. It sounds as difficult as it looks. Lots of small, tight turns to master. PS3Forums has a few off-screen shots as well as several different links lending credibility to the claim. Keeps your eyes and ears open for more info -- we'll keep ours ready as well."

"Well I cannot really say I am surprised by this. And the security on the downloadable version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is a vast improvement on Warhawk's, which does not let you even play on your second PS3 within 24 hours of playing it on the first. However, I am kind of saddened for my broke ass siblings with whom I share my PSN downloads with, since GT5P only lets you play logged into the account that you bought it with."

"I got my copy of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for the PS3 today. I've been anxiously awaiting this title for a while, as I've been a huge fan of the series and racing games in general. So when I put the game in my PS3, I was more than ready to race. Here's a breakdown of what happened:

9:24pm - Loaded the game, started the install process
9:37pm - Install ended (13 minutes total, using 5349MB)
9:38pm - Began downloading the game update
9:42pm - Error occurred during download, had to start over
9:44pm - Began downloading the game update¿ again
9:51pm - Update finished, needed to hold the PS button to quit the game
9:52pm - Restart game, going through menus
9:53pm - Begin car shopping (you have to buy a car first with the 35k credits you have before you can race)
10:01pm - Bought car after looking for a while for what I can afford (settled on Mazda RX-8)
10:07pm - Finally finished first single player race (2:52 total race time)

So as you can see, if you get the Blu-Ray version of the game, it's going to take you an absurd amount of time sitting there doing nothing waiting to actually play the game. Seriously, this is just ridiculous. It took 40 minutes before I was able to actually play the game."

Nissan recently showed off the highly anticipated GT-R to eager North American journalists at the Reno-Fernley Raceway, giving them the opportunity to put the GT-R through its paces on the Nevada racetrack. Media at the event were also given the chance to put the GT-R through its paces on the virtual racetrack, thanks to the custom racing simulators built for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue that were on hand at the event.

It's been over three years since we first sighed 'awwwe' to Polyphony Digital's plans to develop a kindly, gentler racing simulation with the kid-friendly Gran Turismo for Boys. Now series mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi has come forward about the project, and in a recent CVG interview commented that Gran Turismo for Boys is still coming, though perhaps as an included feature in Gran Turismo 5 rather than a standalone game.

Gran Turismo for Boys was first revealed in November 2004 by Yamauchi as a way to hook preteens on cars, sort of like candy cigarettes, but since then there's been little said about the effort beyond the occasional footnote to let the world know that the project hadn't been run over. Tykes shouldn't get too excited yet, however, as Yamauchi admits that his team is currently spinning wheels working on GT5, and have little time to spend on side projects. Still, with the game's release about a year off maybe he'll find time to include the child dedicated feature -- and keep us from throwing a tantrum.

Gamespot writes: "Fans of Gran Turismo can sleep easy at night; the PlayStation's quintessential driving game is in safe hands. Gran Turismo's creator and producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, spoke candidly with GameSpot UK today at Sony's Three Rooms venue in Central London about Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and the long-awaited Gran Turismo 5, and reconfirmed that a PlayStation Portable version of the game and the mysterious Gran Turismo for Boys are still in the works.

When asked what's next for the Gran Turismo following GT5 Prologue's European launch, Yamauchi said that, "first off, GT5 prologue is only at the halfway point to its completion. So in the next update there will be many more features added to the game. From that point to Gran Turismo 5, there's just going to be a lot more quantity in terms of cars and of the tracks as well."

GameSpot asked if the development of GT5 Prologue meant a longer wait for the eventual Gran Turismo 5, and Yamauchi answered, 'This is true, but creating games on the PS3 is so much more difficult than we imagined at first and it took us three years to get here, and I hope our fans understand that we're trying our best and will be moving forward [on GT5] from here on.'"
Considering that the game was released in Europe on March 28, those sales numbers could only apply to the two single days that it was available on store shelves. This, of course, is in addition to the one million European pre-orders and does not include the number of times the game has been purchased via PSN.
For many of the readers of this blog, the answer probably includes your living room video game set-up. Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals just moved into their new home ¿ Nationals Park ¿ and they, too, have a killer gaming den: The PlayStation Pavilion.

Located in the "Strike Zone" near the Center Field Gate, this 3000 square foot PS3 paradise is a good reason to get to the stadium early. Opening 2 ½ hours before the first pitch, Nationals supporters (or visiting Phillies or Mets fans) can duke it out in MLB 08 The Show, test drive Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, or ¿ and I'm sure this will be entertaining after several innings' worth of beer sales ¿ try out the Guitar Hero III and SingStar stages. Some SingStar singers will actually end up on the JumboTron!"
Many of these elements won't be included within the initial download of the game from the PSN, although we were told that some of these items would eventually find their way onto Gran Turismo TV, the racing specific channel that will be included within the game."

The final of the nationwide GT5P competition took place last night in London's Marble Arch, and the winner, Three Speech is happy to say, was one of own Three Speech users, Drew Forster from the HMV Edinburgh heat (PSN moniker Bicycle Shorts, if you fancy a race). Second place went to Gavin Dempster with Christian Chapman coming in a very respectable third.

On winning Drew said, "It was fantastic. We get to go to Le Mans as the prize, though I might give this to my mum and dad. In the race itself we were all very close, doing 2.5 minute and 2.6 minute laps; and then in the final race I got two minutes dead, which was fast enough to win it!"

"I wasn't that bothered about winning until we were in the pod and then I felt it. I met the other guys, who are all really sound, so it was kind of a shame we had to compete, but it was good fun." Nice chap."

Red Ferraris, a yellow Lotus convertible and the newly unveiled Nissan GT-R were some of the 17 cars assembled in an underground car park in central London decorated to look like a pit lane and packed with gamers, models, a bar with staff dressed as pit crew and a DJ pumping out music.

Guests were invited to test out the latest version of the game in four arcade-style "cars" at the Thursday evening event."

Speculation grew as the day wore on with no new files that Sony was holding off until it was possible to include the new Grand Theft Auto IV trailer - the embargo on that was 10pm - but as the hour came and went still the storefront remained unchanged.

In fact, a big fat nothing has gone up on PSN overnight, despite us staying up until our eyes bled, and Sony hasn't said anything to the press yet, or on the European PS3 forums, where people are not very impressed."
We're so glad to settle, in fact, that Gran Turismo 5: Prologue's release in Europe has catapulted the game to the top spot on Amazon's UK site. It holds pole position (that's #1 in auto race talk, folks) in the PC and Videogames category on the online retailer. Furthermore, Play.com, one of the largest game stores in the UK, is reporting a sell-out for initial shipments.
