Last Friday, SCEA shocked a lot of people when they confirmed their 2009 line up, including titles like MAG and God of War III, two titles enthusiasts have heard very little about. Earlier today, however, Sony sent out a new press release in regards to it's annual retailer and publisher Destination PlayStation conference that contradicts that statement. Though it mainly concerned new software and hardware bundle news for the PSP, it did briefly mention the same '2009 line up' mentioned in it's previous press release.

SCEA this morning sent out a little media alert concerning their upcoming PlayStation 3 lineup. And hey, there may be an interesting little tidbit in there for everyone looking forward to God of War III, Zipper Interactive's MAG and Heavy Rain.

Based on the wording of the release, it appears that those 3 games are scheduled for release in 2009:

"The game ushers in an unprecedented year of titles to hit the PlayStation platform throughout the year including the blockbuster exclusives Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, inFamous, MAG, Heavy Rain, God of War III and MLB 09 The Show."

At a media presentation earlier this week, Sony announced that they will reveal a release date for God of War 3 at E3 in June. Yes, it's kind of silly that we're reporting on when an announcement will be made rather than the announcement itself, but it's God of War 3, so this story exists.

We've heard a lot of rumors that the game will hit in early 2010, with many guessing that a March release makes sense, since all previous God of War games have shipped in March. If true, that would mean the team at Sony's Santa Monica studio will have had three years to complete the game -- with a splinter team working on technology for even longer -- which is a pretty substantial amount of time, and equal to how long God of War 1 took to make.

Expectations for God of War III are high, and the game's director Stig Asmussen has some tough shoes to fill, including those of David Jaffe's, creative mind behind not only the original God of War title but also the Twisted Metal franchise.
