One of the most recurring complaints about Final Fantasy XIV is that it has no auction house. Square Enix decided to stick with the Market Wards system, that has been similar to an auction house since the inclusion of a seach system, but lacked the ability to purchase items from a centralized location.
The problem is going to be addressed soon.

Square Enix will begin charging for Final Fantasy XIV subscriptions in early 2012, says the company. After spending more than a year in a seemingly indefinite free-play period, accounts will cost $9.99 per month beginning January 6. This discounted rate will last until Square Enix deploys its version 2.0 update – but with that patch more than a year away, don't expect the game to break the $10 barrier for a while yet...

Square Enix have provided an update on planned version 2.0 for Final Fantasy XIV, which will see the MMO go through some major overhauls and changes to improve it and provide the experience SE promised and what the players expected.

Last September, Square Enix launched its latest MMO in the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XIV, to a disastrous reaction -- so bad that the company has yet to begin charging players fees for the game.

In October, Square Enix announced that the game would begin charging this month or next, and that the game would be upgrading to version 2.0 in 2013.

Gamasutra queried producer Naoki Yoshida, who replaced Square Enix veteran Hiromichi Tanaka at the project's helm late last year, for more details on this unusual transition.

Square Enix published today a large batch of details about the changes to the armory system and to the way classes work in Final Fantasy XIV that will come with patch 1.20.

In addition to that the full translation of the Q&A with Naoki Yoshida at the second Letter from the Producer Live has been published.
