While I was browsing through the Square Enix TGS site, I discovered something nice for Final Fantasy XIII fans. Like last year, people will get a sample cd when they buy something at the Square Enix Music stand. It looks like there will be multiple music tracks for Final Fantasy XIII on the disc. The CD will also feature music tracks from FF:CC Crystal Bearers (26/11/09, Japan) and Final Fantasy Gaiden (29/10/09, Japan).

In an interview with this week's Famitsu magazine Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show as part of Square Enix employing a new strategy at the popular show.

This year there will not be a 'closed' area fans have to queue up to go inside to see new trailers, and instead of showing off games that are years away from release the company will focus on playable demos of titles that are close to release. Mr. Nomura particularly highlighted Final Fantasy XIII, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Dissidia Universal Tuning, the newly announced 'international' version of Dissidia for Japan.

With every bit of good news there's also some bad, too - this new change of strategy means that TGS will not have any new trailers, screens or other footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII or Parasite Eve: The Third Birthday.

Kotaku writes: "Sick of looking at these same Final Fantasy Versus XIII screen shots? Yeah. Me too. Well, the good news is that development on Final Fantasy XIII is doing wonders for that other Fabula Nova Crystallis entry, according to the developer.

Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase told us at Gamescom this week that development time on Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be "comparatively faster" than that of the core entry, Final Fantasy XIII. That reassuring update to the more action-oriented entry in the Fabula Nova Crystallis project came after Kitase said that the time to model characters and enemies in FFXIII was taking about one-third the time it did at the beginning of the project."

With Final Fantasy XIII nearing completion, Nomura said that his efforts have turned to mainly Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Agito XIII. According to Nomura, the Final Fantasy VII and Versus XIII teams are nearly the same, with the team making no compromises to increase the overall quality of the game. Currently, the Versus XIII team is testing the battle system and town lighting for day and night cycles.

According to Nomura, many of the rendering and shading tools used in the development of FF Versus XIII were used to polish Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete. The film's team wanted to use more advanced techniques and tools than those available when the film was first produced, and Versus XIII's tech met the team's standards. Now this may be a stretch, but it's as if Nomura is hinting that the quality of visuals behind Final Fantasy Versus XIII may come close to replicating certain aspects of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

The Final Fantasy XIII demo has been delayed about a month from it's expected release to April 16. The Japan only demo comes packaged with movie spin off of Final Fantasy VII, Advent Children, on Blu Ray. The main finding is that while last week Mr. 33cm was confirmed was Snow, now he's been given a surname and is called Snow Villiers, which makes the name sound a little bit more respectable.

Square Enix has gone PC. On the first day of the show, the Japanese game publisher announced that Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (in Europe and North America only) and PC. During a press conference following the Microsoft event, Final Fantasy XIII Producer Yoshinori Kitase discussed the new development strategy that Square Enix has taken with its upcoming games.

Aside from the new The Last Remnant game, which is being created for Xbox 360 and PS3 using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 externally, all new internally-developed games from Square Enix, including Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, and an untitled new massively multiplayer online game, utilize the new PC-based Crystal Tools development environment. These tools allow development teams to create cross-platform games.

"The content will be the same on all platforms," said Kitase. "However, we have yet to determine how many discs will be required for the 360 version. We'll have to consider the differences between formats. Currently the game is being built on PC, where it's actually functional. We're still focusing on making it work on PS3, so it's difficult to know how long the process of taking it to 360 will take."

Thanks to the new PC development platform, Kitase added, "Now that we're developing on a PC base, the pace is going a bit faster," Kitase said. "We haven't introduced new footage of the game, but we should be able to show something new in the near future."

Square Enix showed the beautiful pre-rendered trailer for Final Fantasy XIII at the end of the Microsoft press conference. The publisher has a big event scheduled for Tokyo next month where the first new information will be revealed on all Final Fantasy titles. Previously, the publisher released its online game, Final Fantasy XII, on Xbox 360 and PC.

Following the shocking news of Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatform, Square Enix has taken the opportunity to address its plans in regards to keeping Final Fantasy Versus XIII exclusive to the PlayStation 3.

In an interview with Square Enix Executive Shinji Hashimoto, it was revealed that not only will the game remain a PS3 exclusive, but game director Tetsuya Nomura (Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VII) is developing another game outside of Versus called "One Goal Spirit".

Joyful Xbox 360 owners are painting the town red tonight all due to a surprise announcement made by Yoichi Wada explaining that North America and Europe will see Final Fantasy XIII on Microsoft's Xbox 360 as well as Sony's Playstation 3. Japan's Playstation 3 however keeps the exclusive status for now.

This week's Dengeki PlayStation issue features an interview with Nomura, which reveals some of the plans for upcoming events. Nomura mentions that Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete might finally be getting a release date, and that we should expect many more surprises. Dissidia Final Fantasy details have once again been spotted and this time, they're coming from Japanese game magazine Famitsu. the game's producer Tetsuya Nomura, director Takeshi Arakawa, and planning director Mitsunori Takahashi all sat down with the publication and answered a few questions.

First on the agenda was the question of why the game is taking so long to finish. The devs answered that the team doing it is pretty young and adjusting was one of the most time-consuming parts of development. As for how far along into completion the team has gone, they said they're at about 50 percent and that character models are almost completely sealed.

On the site is an image of an "unidentified being" released by Square Enix to play a part in the upcoming game Final Fantasy XIII. Unlike the "Prince" from Versus and "Lightning" from XIII, this image has so far given everyone nothing but grief in uncovering its purpose or identity. Many fans however have their suspicions of Kitase's and Nomura's mysterious being. Could this "being" be JENOVA from Final Fantasy VII?

Talkplaystation.com has found some great news on FF13:

"Well well, Final Fantasy fans can be happy once again as Square Enix will be returning to E3 this year at Los Angeles Convention Centre, the place where it should be because last year E3 was shambles. Square pretty much sat through the entire thing last year."

At long last, FinalFantasyXIII.net is open! The newest site on the FXN Network, and sister site to FF-XIII.net itself, FinalFantasyXIII.net is online and pretty much fully functional.

What's to check out on the site? An all new gallery, newly rewritten content pages, a beautiful layout, and a lot of content to come. The new site is very community oriented, as they'll be hosting contests and competitions, taking in and showing off user submitted content (amvs, graphics, etc., etc.) and lots more to come.

The new site has completely redone content, and a great new layout. Thanks to hard work by Tian, Lauren, Colin (Hardedge) and Shar (Monkey), and others.

Oddly enough the entire time the new site has been in development (since January) there has been very little FFXIII news. Let's hope with the opening of the new site we get some news!

Final Fantasy XIII to be released in EU before US? (News)

Rumours are currently flying around referring to Final Fantasy XIII being planned for release in Japan and Europe (2008) before North America (2009). Versus XIII also follows suit with release apparently being planned to hit Japan (December 2008) before North America (2009). However Europe is expected to see this title last on shop shelves.

There are however no rumours about Agito XIII, the other title to make up the confirmed XIII trilogy.

IGN seems sure these rumours are true and have scrabbled in the dates of the expected release. All we need now is some sort of sign from SquareEnix.

Square Enix honcho Yoichi Wada (above, left) is worried. Western game companies are doing really well! Meaning that competition is getting harder. Yet, Wada hopes to capitalise on the Western market, aiming to increase the ratio of overseas sales from its current 50 percent to 80 percent in the next three years. According to the exec:

"We face competition not only from Japanese videogame companies but from game companies worldwide. We also see some new players from outside the videogame industry coming in... Economies of scale and breadth of scope is getting important. It may be a business alliance or it may be us taking a stake in others, but we need to go beyond traditional Square Enix."

That business alliance sounds nice and all. But, how about stop calling everything Final Fantasy? Or make things other than RPGs? Or if you are going to make RPGs, why not make the games people have been asking for for the past decade?

The latest Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer that was shown at last year's Jump Festa closed mega theater features sentences throughout the entire video. Forever Fantasy decided to translate them from Italian, as it might give more insight to what's really going on:

The entire album is beautiful, and especially Final Fantasy Versus XIII's track, Somnus, which we finally hear without any background noises. It is still unknown if it's the main theme of the game or not.

Square Enix has announced that they are planning to release a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer on midnight in their Mobile News Channel for Docomo cellphones. Japanese bloggers are still unsure if it's an entirely new trailer, or the same trailer that was released on the CLOUD DVD, which is a possibility.

One thing's for sure, though: Just like the Final Fantasy XIII trailer that was released last week didn't make it to the web, chances are slim this one will, even if it turns out to be new.

While there is quite a bit of background noise, you can still hear some of the differences between the Cloud Trailer, and this one. A new violin part, and from what sounds like even more action, makes this trailer one to die for.

Yoko Shimomura, one of Square Enix's most accomplished composers which is mainly known for composing the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise soundtracks, is to release a new CD called Drammatica -The Very Best Of Yoko Shimomura.

The new CD features music from Kingdom Hearts, Front Mission, Secret of Mana and as a bonus Yoko Shimomura decided to include several bonus tracks from her current on-going project Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which should give us an early preview on the game's OST.

The CD is scheduled for release in Japan on March 26, 2008 for Yen ?3,000, which translates to approx. US$ 28.

-Music was a slow peaceful string-centric orchestral piece
-Very pale-skinned lady in a white flowy dress and feathery hair played a huge harp on a watery surface
-In a dark space, a floating object spewed out a bunch of CD-like discs all over the place and Pigtails Girl picked one
-Later you see a small creature with white body but greeny face summoned (out of the disc?) and the girl smiled at it

As many of us noticed, at one point in the new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer, the Prince impales one particular soldier with one of his many weapons. This is no new thing to Final Fantasy, but the effect you are all now thinking of is, blood and gore. FF-XIII.net provides screen shots to see the exact moment in the trailer.

Minor blood has been in Final Fantasy's in the past, like on Sephiroth's face at the end of FFVII and the tiny patch of blood on Cloud's shirt after being stabbed by Sephiroth in FFVII: Advent Children. Those fall under the ESRB Teen Rating for "containing minimal blood". What is seen in the Versus trailer is in no stretch of the imagination "minimal blood", but easily fits into the ESRB Mature Rating's "contain intense violence, blood and gore" category, the article continues.

It's now Friday in Japan, marking the official release date of the CLOUD artbook and accompanying DVD. Media Works have now opened the official site for the book which confirms all the trailers which are appearing on the Special DVD and has a preview of some of the pages in the book, including one Fabula Nova Crystallis page.

FF-XIII.net now has the Enhanced versions of the MP3s from both the Final Fantasy XIII trailer and Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer for download for anyone wanting to listen to the music.

FF-XIII.net ripped the audio from the trailers and cleaned up and enhanced them greatly so that they sound much better than the original audio from the trailers. The sound effects have also been reduced in volume due to them being louder than the music, so they aren't a distraction when listening now.

EMagLive.com has received multiple reports over the last few days from sources who wish to remain anonymous that Microsoft is making a largely successful bid for two of the PlayStation 3's most anticipated third-party exclusives: Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

The reports of Final Fantasy Versus XIII heading to the 360 have been circulating for nearly the last month after it was revealed that at least parts of the White Engine were being ported to Microsoft's console. Speaking to EMagLive, they were told by a source close to Microsoft that the Redmond company was in productive discussions with the Japanese developer Square Enix to "at least get [Final Fantasy 13] as a timed multiplatform and at most get the game as a simultaneous release".

We all know the fact that Famitsu likes to interview Nomura, and this week is no different: The magazine has conducted an interview with him, but unfortunately we did not get any new details. Here is a short sum-up:

· Nomura was never involved in the creation of any Final Fantasy title as deeply he is right now, and he likes the fact he can take Final Fantasy Versus XIII where he wants it to be.

· Nomura says the PlayStation 3 hardware plays a huge part in the development of both projects, and by using it "all visions can come true". He says that visual-wise both Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII are superior from any former title in the franchise, and they are "close to perfection".

· As in any interview, Nomura was asked about the game's exclusivity. This time he mentioned that the TGS 2007 trailers had the writing "for PlayStation 3 ONLY". He says it's an advantage for one team to concentrate on one console, even if some fans are disappointed.
