Electronic Arts Inc. has announced the continued record-setting sales pace for FIFA 10 as well as the development of FIFA 10 Ultimate Team, a game mode expansion and new way of playing FIFA 10 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Based on internal sales projections, FIFA 10 has sold through more than 4.5 million units worldwide since launch, a 26 percent increase over FIFA 09 in the same period a year ago (eight weeks in Europe and five weeks in North America).

EA has said FIFA 10 has sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide in addition to becoming the fastest selling sports game ever made. FIFA 10 was launched on the 1st of October in Australia followed by 2nd in Europe and the 20th in North America. Very impressive figures.

Schappert: FIFA 10 31 percent above FIFA 09, outsells PES "4 to 1" (News)

EA's John Schappert has said during an investor call that FIFA 10 has sold more through retail than FIFA 09 has by 31 percent in Europe.

The executive also said it's "outselling Pro Evolution Soccer 4 to 1." This comes amidst EA beating their chest over core IP 'revitalization'.

FIFA's arch virtual football rival PES is "struggling", EA reckons.

Why? According to EA UK boss Keith Ramsdale, it's because 2010 "is very much a FIFA and Call of Duty year".

"We've seen PES come. PES is struggling like most other non-mainstream franchises. This is very much a FIFA and Call of Duty year. There is quality product out there that is failing in the marketplace that at any other time would perform very well. So it's a tough place, but FIFA is a beneficiary of that, and we're really pleased with how FIFA's coming along."

It has been confirmed that SplitFish's wireless PlayStation 3 controller designed specifically for use with first-person shooters (FPS), the Dual SFX Frag Pro, will ship to retailers in time for Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 release. SplitFish first revealed this latest addition to its line of controllers for the PlayStation 3 to rave reviews at E3 and Gamescon 2009, as part of SplitFish's brand-new Frevolution X System to be available worldwide in fall 2009. The first PES 2010 review is in via the pages of PSM3 Magazine, which crowns FIFA 10 (very marginally) this year's winner.

"After the arcade excesses of PES 09, [PES 2010 is] a welcome return to simulation roots," says the mag, which awards PES 2010 a respectable 89% - 1% less than FIFA 2010.

Several of the UKs big supermarket chains have begun offering FIFA 10 for up to half its recommended retail price, with Tesco currently selling the game for GBP 24.97.

Released today, the game comes with a RRP of GBP 49.99, however Tesco, Morrisons and Asda are all selling at vastly below that price.

Tesco's deal is the cheapest, but its two rivals are pricing the game competitively with Morrisons offering it at GBP 24.99 and Asda GBP 26.71.

MCV: In what has become an annual ritual at UK retail, this Friday's release of FIFA 10 looks likely to spark a fierce price war at the nation's supermarkets.

Though we've yet to receive final confirmation from any individual chain, reports are suggesting that Tesco will be selling the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game for £28.99 from midnight on Friday until the end of play on Sunday.

Further unconfirmed reports claim that rival Asda will offer the same versions of the game for just £25 for the first 24 hours of its release.

After many years of absence, the Dutch National team will feature in FIFA 10. 'Oranje' will be fully licensed, so you can play with the real kits, the KNVB-logo and the real players like Dirk Kuyt, Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Eljero Elia.

'Oranje' was absent for many years because of a debacle between EA and the KNVB. 'Oranje' last featured in 2006 FIFA World Cup. Other years, Dutch players were forced to play with fictional players like Ronhaar (instead of Robben) and De Neutenboom (Ruud van Nistelrooy). Oranje did however featured the last years in Pro Evolution Soccer, but will be playable in FIFA this year as well.

EA Sports president Peter Moore has told VideoGamer.com that he believes sports will play a large role in the early support for both Microsoft's Natal and Sony's PS3 motion controller. However, much of this will be through fun mini-games as we have seen with the Wii.

Asked if the publisher's market-leading FIFA franchise could incorporate Natal or Sony's motion wand, Moore said:

"Well I'm not sure that simply having a, let's say Natal from Microsoft, having a Natal version of FIFA is arguably the right thing to do. Are there some cool mini-games you can do as a Natal or motion controller from Sony, where you actually put the controller down maybe, you get up off the couch, and then there's a penalty competition? And maybe, and this is right off the top of my head, maybe, there's a penalty, instead of using the controller, you have to take the penalty?"

EA's FIFA team has revealed a whole range of additions made to its upcoming FIFA 10 game, with the studio promising that these new features have resulted in the creation of the greatest football game of all time.

Speaking at a press conference during the 2009 Gamescom event, EA Canada's David Rutter claimed that 70 per cent of the FIFA team had focused their efforts on fan feedback.

NowGamer: EA producer Santiago Jaramillo has blogged about the importance of community feedback, and revealed some of the features set for FIFA 10

EA's South American gameplay producer (and life-long FIFA fan) Jaramillo cited a quirk in FIFA 09 which had led to a number of fans making their feelings known:

"We've always known that the Goalkeeper could not get sent off in FIFA 09," wrote Jaramillo. "Ever since I joined the team, we've wanted to fix this. However, technical difficulties made fixing this trivial problem anything but simple. We knew the problem was there, we wanted to fix it, but we never thought it was important enough to merit the several days of production time it required."
