Reinmar du Bois is a psychiatrist an responsible for the official report concerning the massacre of Winnenden (Germany) in early 2009. Tim K., 17 years young, killed 15 people and then himself. According to du Bois Counter-Strike and Far Cry 2 were responsible for the school shooting. Tim K. translated his experiences with Counter-Strike into reality. "During the upcoming days our team will be preparing the arrival of our new patches with a massive update on our data server.
The first change you'll be able to notice will be on the leaderboards, in fact we will change the magic formula we are using in order to provide more accurate results.
A few players will experience a slight boost, and some would have a slight decrease in experience corresponding to a correction between our different databases. This will also prevent the use of exploit allowing certain player to accumulate massive amount of experience in a few matches."

Heini Schmitt (pictured),regional chairman of the DPolG in the German state of Hesse, has called for a ban on violent games in Germany, linking them to the recent Albertville school shooting, where a 17-year old former student went on a rampage killing 16 people, including himself.
He claims 1/3 of the country's youth "regularly and addictively escape into a virtual world." and referred to games with violence as "killergames."

German retailer Galeria Kaufhof has removed violent games and DVDs from its store in the wake of a school shooting that left 16 dead.
The retailer will not stock any movies or games sold with an 18-plus rating, with no exception.
This would appear to come in direct reaction to the report that the shooter was a known Counte-Strike and Far Cry 2 player.

Gamezine: The German school killer played Far Cry 2 the night before his murdering rampage, so expect the wider media to labour the point.
The Times has reported on further evidence in the south-west Germany shootings, where 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer killed nine pupils and three teachers at the Albertville secondary school in the town of Winnenden, north of Stuttgart, before killing himself.
The game Counterstrike has already been mentioned in passing, which was described by the Associated Press to be a game that "involves killing people to complete missions." Now Ubisoft's 2008 release Far Cry 2 has been connected to the shooting.

Number None's Braid follows closely with five nominations. Among the nominations for LittleBigPlanet is the coveted Game of the Year award.
Other nominees for that category include Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead, each of which received a total of four award nominations; Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV, which earned a total of three nominations, and Lionhead Studios' Fable 2. We didn't know anyone wandered into Far Cry 2's expansive, hojillion-hour-long single-player campaign and somehow managed to make time to check out the game's multiplayer offerings, but apparently there's a sizable community of online FC2 players out there. This group has been calling for more realistic match settings for quite some time -- players can apparently catch more lead than Sonny Corleone and walk away with little more than a scratch and an interesting story.
Their pleas have been answered -- in a recent post on the FC2 community blog, the game's developers announced a patch which will, in addition to rebalancing the weapons in all multiplayer modes, add a more realistic "hardcore setting" to all match types. This mode will boost the damage for all weapons (ensuring speedier demises) and will let players tweak the "spawn times" (but not the "spawn rates", whatever that means). They didn't specify which platforms the patch will be landing on -- hopefully, they'll be affording a hasty death to all three.

Ubisoft Montreal's latest Prince of Persia title may have a significant impact on Ubisoft's financial performance, said company CFO Alain Martinez, particularly in an ever more competitive marketplace.
Speaking at the UBS Annual Global Media Conference, Martinez cautioned that it's "very early" to make definite projections on overall sales of the title, which launched this month, but the company "believes 2.5 to three million [sales] is clearly achievable."
The company is also hoping Ubisoft Montreal's Far Cry 2, which had an unusually mixed initial reaction, will end up being a steadier seller over the long term, rather than the explosive early seller the company had hoped for. Martinez said Ubisoft is "repromoting" the game, and now projects it to reach 2.5 to three million sales.

Cnet: Not only are there some really good deals on game consoles this holiday season, but also on games. Starting December 7, Best Buy is cutting prices for one week on some popular titles for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, making all the serious gamers holiday dreams come true.
This is only on selected titles, for both consoles:
Xbox 360: Tom Clancy's EndWar for $39.99, Civil War for $29.99, Legendary for 39.99, and Far Cry 2 for $39.99.
PlayStation 3: Konami Corp's Metal Gear Solid 4 for $39.99, Dangerous Hunts for $29.99, and The Simpsons game for $9.99
Online giant Amazon.com is making console bundle choices a tad more complicated with deals on the PlayStation 3. With that and the recent price drop of the Xbox 360, this should make for some hard holiday decisions.
A bundle known as the "high-definition promotion" gives the consumer $50 off the PlayStation 3, game, Blu-ray disc, and a remote.
