Soulcalibur IV

The best special attacks EVER

Video: 16 years of hurt in one scorching montage

Words: Justin Towell, GamesRadar UK

Hadouken! Shoryuken! Shinryuken! You know exactly what we mean, even if the words themselves are a mystery. Special attacks are what make fighting games great. But learning all those command strings can be such a chore so we thought we'd save you the hassle and bring the best ones to you in one awesome video.

We've collected the best moves from some 30 games on consoles old and new. How many have you done?

Do be warned, though - there is some blood, a little light impaling and more than one irreperably damaged spine ahead (all virtual of course), so that's why there's an age gate. Enjoy :)

Above: Seong Mina sure hopes that weapon is clean

You know, when I was a kid, I thought Ryu was saying 'A frightening spoon kick' when he performed his Hurricane Kick.

I can't believe a montage of the best fighting game special moves doesn't have any from Rival Schools and/or Project Justice!!! Those moves were batshit insane :S

King's Illusion Kick super from KOF '94 and Ukyo's Bust super from Samurai Shodown III are the best special moves ever. Ryu Hayabusa's Izuna Drop is a close third.

Soooo many awesome special attacks. I love Law's Dragon Dive in Tekken--he runs up the opponent's body, jumps into the air, does a backflip, and comes down with a massive bodypress. Sweet!

ok some of those moves sucked and they left out a whole bunch completely bad and innaccurate

This is a fail list. Quality over quantity GR. Where the heck are EWGF, Shin Shoryuken, and Raging Demon? Also those throws were lame they shouldnt qualify as special attacks. Hopefully you'll make an update of this that is better thought out.

No Dragon Claw? The most intense original character for MUGEN (As well as the only 3-D original character for it) could link any three of his four special moves into a massive combo and when done successfully the third super would get souped up and become a computer-crashing spectacle of flaming particle effects.

ahahaha a frightening spoon kick for the win
