How cute… kill it!

There are two possible reactions to Sony’s latest stab at augmented reality. They are: ah, isn’t it cute? Or let’s see if we can kill it. If you fall into the latter camp the chances are this isn’t for you. If you fall into the former, congratulations: you’re eight years old.

That isn’t to disparage what is in actual fact a pretty clever idea well implemented. Using a combination of the PlayStation Eye and a multipurpose square of cardboard you interact with the little critter in various ways. These range from the entertaining (making him catch cookies) to the frankly bizarre (having him play bowling ball to a clutch of skittles). He’s not quite man’s new best friend then but certainly one of the best uses of the Eye to date.

If you can't kill it can you at least beat it senseless?

Hmm... such an unpleasing review, and yet I yet I can't get over my dire urge to get it.
