MTV Multiplayer Blog writes: "It's only been this generation that downloadable content has become a viable opportunity on consoles, and the Entertainment Software Ratings Board finds itself in a position to regulate this uncharted territory of content.
"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" expansion packs and the upcoming "Grand Theft Auto IV" upcoming add-ons represent the industry's most expansive departures from a game's original content. The catch: that content must remain consistent with the original rating branded by the ESRB.
New content cannot introduce elements that would alter the original rating, or the overall rating must change. ESRB president Patricia Vance explained what this meant for content makers at a MI6 Conference panel on marketing and user generated content last week."

It took a whole lot of doing, but The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles is finally available in readily downloadable format for the PlayStation 3. Those of you who held out on getting the Game of the Year Edition of Oblivion that included the expansion and didn't want to drive all the way out to the store for the retail expansion disc can now spend $30 via the PlayStation Network and get your expansion on. PS3 Oblivion fans - the long struggle is finally at an end. According to the Bethesda Blog post, gamers own a debt of gratitude to technical director Guy Carver, heretofore known as the Prophet of Light. A Game of the Year Edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for PS3 finally allows owners of Sony's console to romp around in expansion pack Shivering Isles.
The GOTY version additionally features previously released download content Knights of the Nine.
However, for some reason the recently released content Fighter's Stronghold - available now for PC and Xbox 360 Oblivion, and a 10.3MB file - has not been included.

Shivering Isles could be the first and last full expansion Bethesda releases for Oblivion. The developer has said that Shivering Isles is "the only expansion we have planned."
Speaking to Next-Gen.biz, Bethesda executive producer has explained that now Shivering Isles is out the door, full focus has switched to Fallout 3.

The release of the first trailer from Shivering Isles has been accompanied by news that Bethesda's first true expansion pack for Oblivion will arrive on March 27. Refer your mouse to the Movies tab above to take a gander.
The Xbox 360 version, which will only be available via Xbox Live Marketplace, will cost 2400 Microsoft Points. On PC, it's being slapped with a $29.99 price tag.

Big Huge Games is a developer best known for its work in the RTS genre with the Rise of Nations PC series, but it's now expanding its horizons and leaping into the world of the RPG.
